Hi
Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for small things I can make for a craft fair. they need to be relatively quick to make. Already have tissue cases, book covers, mug rugs butr more suggestions would be great. thank you |
Pot holders, aprons, quilted refrigerator magnets and pin cushions.
|
Think of something for kids...maybe puppets, furbabies, or fabric 'checker boards' with unique playing pieces and bags to store it all in. I've seen some made up and they're really cute.
|
How about those 'oven dresses' that someone was making? they're cute, and fairly simple...
|
Our guild sold a lot lot lot of quilted key chains, quilted book marks, table runners, lots of small things as opposed to the larger things.
|
How about Coralee's crock pot cozies?

If you're near where folks gather for Civil War re-inactments, then think of sun bonnet and apron combos. I made some for my daughter and sister, who wore them to different states' re-inactments and both had women beg to buy them they looked so old. I had made both of them from old fabrics with small flowers and had bleached the colors almost out of them before cutting.
I suspect this might be a bigger price asked so maybe just a couple for test purposes. Toaster covers or Crock pot covers? I have a quilted glass cover I made for my breakfast diet Pepsi, keeps my hands warm, I love icy drinks. I put a layers of batting on the bottom too, and change them every few days for drying. |
People love to buy things for their dogs and cats!
|
People also love to buy things for their children and grandchildren ---- pillow cases! In novelty prints, especially princesses and sports and dogs/cats. I've had good luck from them, just by word of mouth Adults love them too - in florals, but they stress about it matching their bed.
|
Keychains, it was the only think i sold at my last craft fair.

pillowcases, crayon/coloring book totes, nook/kindle holder
|
tote bag, coffee cup cozy (I made some for X-mas gifts and they were well received and very quick and easy to make)
|
luggage tags - the brighter the better
|
My favorite is pillow cases from novelty fabric. What about Riversong's table toppers?

If you do other things than sew or quilt a friend bought me for Christmas at a craft fair a keychain made from a silver spoon with my initial on it and a towel rack made from a silver pie server. The handle was bent up and a small hole was put in the end to hang it on the wall. Very nice and easy to make and seems to be very popular right now.

I recieved a great gift for Christmas from a friend. She bought some cute fleece cut it about 9 inch wide by the link for the salvage to salvage edge. Then she cut the ends up to 3 inch x 1/2 to make the fringe. She embroidery it with the letter of my first name. I love it quick and easy.

Oops, I just now saw the picture. Looks like she cut the length and left it that way, right? |
table runners, hot mats, journal covers, book covers, coasters, candle mats, quilted post cards,

Tote bags, fabric hobo purses, novelty pillow cases, jewellry keepers, tea cozies, mini sewing kits, cell phone cases, needle kits, table runners, placemats and napkins, headbands for adults and babies

how about those oven mits?
|
That's a good idea NikkiLu!! - especially if they are done in cute novelty fabric!
|
My grand daughter had me to make her a binder cover for her school binder--It was 1 1/2" and she loved it. I used tiger material as it was her favorite. Peace signs are really hot right now.

just please remember if using a pattern to make sure the designer allows the items to made for resale! MOST do not!
Even if it is a FREE pattern online, it might have restrictions. When in doubt always ask the designer! One designer that I just love is Nancy Halvorsen! You know her ARt to Heart books...she allows to make up to 12 of EACH item in the book for resale! Those things sell fast too..especially out of the new Sew Necessary and Count on it books! Kaye Wood also give a generous permission for her designs! AND yes, if you use a purchased pattern like McCalls, etc. they have the biggest restrictions for resale out there! |

When in doubt always ask the designer! ------------------------------------------- I was going to suggest pillows with children's favorite TV programs on them, SpiderMan and such. I don't think that would be doing wrong, I'll have to try to remember if I've seen them in craft sales. But this sounds like it's the Patterns themselves that are forbidden to be made in large amounts. Or any for sale at all? Places where kids are allowed should have child friendly crafts near, but out of their reach so they will ask Mom for it. |
great ideas

------------------------------ Probably several people in a club or group could each make up 12 of them and sell them at different tables. Would that keep to the spirit of the agreement? |
As with patterns, when using Licensed fabrics with children's themes on them, be sure to read the selvage edge now..most say NOT for resale on them! And they mean it...here in OK it is the colleges that crack down hard on craft show vendors that are not authorized to sell things that say OU or OSU on them...

bowls and boxes and candle mats
