Absolutely! My Grandma used yard sale fabrics and went to the thrift store for old clothes that were still in good shape. Many of her quilts were priceless but didn't cost more than $10 - $30 to make, batting, backing and top.

Hey, if you go to the Fat Quarter Shop on line after Christmas they sell wonderful stuff for half price. You can always find a sale.

I will still quilt,need to finish the UFO's anyhow and the WIP's and the PIG's (didn't know about PIG's until last night,the things I've learned on the board :D :D :D )
When I need something for a project I'll have to wait for a sale or go without Diet Pepsi for awhile.

guess what you can use for batting?
OLD wool blankets, flannel sheets, etc. that are easy to find at yard sales and thrift stores!
Just remember, the quilts are only going to be as good as the stuff you use on them! so save the really good stuff for the quilts you really want to save!
