One of the quilt stores I go to is telling their customers that the cost of fabric will be going up because of the cost of the raw cotton. If prices go up, will you still quilt?

I have enough stash to last me a really long time.. Only thing Ill need to buy if fabric get way to high for piecing is Batting..

Maride 12-29-2010 09:46 AM

We still drive when gasoline goes up.

sharon b 12-29-2010 09:46 AM

Yes But I will shop less and use up more of what I have at home

Lockeb 12-29-2010 09:46 AM

Yep, will definitely keep the habit.... :-)

QuiltingGrannie 12-29-2010 09:47 AM

I'll cut back on the food first! ;-)

amma 12-29-2010 09:48 AM

Yes, but I will shop even more carefully than before :D:D:D

Murphy 12-29-2010 09:48 AM

Absolutely.

davidwent 12-29-2010 09:50 AM

Geeez I just started! LOL

scowlkat 12-29-2010 09:50 AM

I have enough fabric stash to quilt until 50 years past my demise so rising costs are not too much of a factor. However there is always a new fabric calling my name and if it yells loud enough, I am sure I will find a way to buy it.

Boopers 12-29-2010 09:51 AM

I will keep on quilting. I have a really large stash. I may need to buy more thread at some point but not fabric.

IrishNY 12-29-2010 09:52 AM

Won't stop me. I probably will be a little more careful about what I buy. I can afford the increased prices but I have a threshold about what fabric is worth to me. $10 a yard seems to be where I get stuck, so it may mean more online shopping at lower prices if the average price in LQS goes over that.

KathyAire 12-29-2010 09:59 AM

Hasn't fabric increased in price since any of us started quilting? We didn't stop then and I don't think we will stop now. Like many others, my stash will last for about 50 years - but who wants to use their stash. Buy more...

kima 12-29-2010 10:03 AM

Welcome from Oklahoma yes I will still quilt but I won't be able to buy much though.

Grammy o'5 12-29-2010 10:08 AM

Yes, I will. I'll use more of the little "stash" I have. Batting always has to be purchased - don't have a stash of that. I wonder how much the raw cotton price will affect that? ;)

BMP 12-29-2010 10:10 AM

I will still be quilting but a little more selective about what I buy and what I make.

Mary M 12-29-2010 10:18 AM

I will keep on quilting but will always be looking for sales on any items I need. Quilting is a hobby that a person can't just stop for it is too rewarding. I think less fabric will be sold than before but in time people will adjust to it. I would really hate to see those on a fixed income have to give up quilting because of cost of fabric. I am sure many will be looking at garage sales, thrift stores etc. for fabric to quilt.

Chasing Hawk 12-29-2010 10:18 AM

I will, I shop at goodwill for fabrics.

If all else fails I will raid my Sister and niece's closets. I have never seen two people with so many outfits. Some haven't even been worn.......LOL

BellaBoo 12-29-2010 10:23 AM

I'll still buy fabric. I never pay full price for fabric anymore. I buy from online clearances and sales.

I'm with you!!! If it yells loud enough, I will find a way to add it to my "collection"

Me too! I need to diet anyway!

Of course I will still quilt. Silly question! I already had a good stash, and I've been stocking up since October when the cotton news story came out.

I can't imagine not quilting. Those who enjoy quilting will always find ways to acquire fabric at less than full retail price.

chiaraquilts 12-29-2010 10:38 AM

Absolutely! I may make fewer spur of the moment purchases, but will never stop quilting!

Cuilteanna 12-29-2010 10:39 AM

There's always mini quilts to make!

Airwick156 12-29-2010 10:41 AM

My sentiments exactly...Ill cut back on the food. And hubby can just eat some Kibbles and Bits with his two little dogs.

featherweight 12-29-2010 10:42 AM

Well DUH!!! I sure didn't stop driving when gas went up. I am not in this to save money, I am in it for life, whatever fabric costs.

Deborah12687 12-29-2010 10:45 AM

I guess we will have to live with the higher prices if we want to continue quilting. Some time in the future they will price them selves to the point no one will buy much. I wish this economy would balance out so all can afford.

I will still quilt, I will just use more of my stash.

I won't stop quilting but will stop buying, If we don't buy they will put it on sale to get rid of it. I also will plan quilting scrappys and still search swap shops for fabric.
Although there are some folks who may not know how it is to struggle with prices. Yes when food prices go up we still buy food but I can bet those of us on limited income start buying store brands and search the dented can section and buy day old goodies just to save a few bucks. It is hard to make ends meet sometimes.

leaha 12-29-2010 11:05 AM

yes I will, I paid much more for fabric when I was in Ak. and it did not stop me then and will not stop me now. where there is a will there is a way!

fabricmaniac 12-29-2010 11:07 AM

I will never stop quilting until I can't remember where my Bernina is. ANd cost of fabric???? It's gone up continually for the past 10 years and yet my closet is even fuller. I DO use much of it all the time.

maryb119 12-29-2010 11:11 AM

I will use more of my stash but yes, I will still buy fabric.

hannajo 12-29-2010 11:16 AM

If the cost goes up, I'm sure we will all just get even more resourceful about how and where we get fabric. To me, that's a big part of the fun of quilting. Think of our "quilting ancestors" who barely could feed their families, but could use any little piece of fabric to make beautiful clothes and quilts. I think the current situation might put us more in touch with their spirit. Now I wanna go watch "Little House on the Prairie..."
