A Baltimore Album which I'm hoping to start working on after the Christmas holidays.

I remember I just wanted to make one quilt - just one - to see what I could do. That was about 20 quilts ago! Not wallhangings - I've never made one of them before. I like a big ones. I just got to thinking, too, that if our neighbor is going to have a little girl, wouldn't it be neat to get the baby a doll and make a matching quilt for the doll? Something to cogitate. Edie

WOW these are ambitious quilts! How many different colors are there? How would you ever know how much fabric to buy? I have such a hard time picking fabrics, I would not know where to start. My goal is Grandma's Flower Garden or Cathedral Windows. Right now I am taking a table runner class, and I praise the Lord for Charm Packs! It is suppose to be scappy, but the Charm Packs make it soooo much easier. I have patterns for all the state flags, but I do not know where to begin to calculate enough fabric to put them all together to make a quilt in the red, white, and blues of civil war times. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your pictures, comments, and advise.

Boy, this is difficult! I'd love a Dear Jane, but also LOVE a DWR in 1930's fabrics. I'm also partial to a sampler quilt in autumn colors. So many choices, so little time! :-)

Are you talking to me????????? If so, I am doing it in only three colors. I picked out blocks that only contain three colors. It is a print of dark teal, one of a tan background with light teal and solid tea dyed muslin! I got the patterns from Quilter's Cache. Every block is different. That's the whole fun! I am running short in fabric, but I can get more. I got four yards of each. But then I was only going to make 35 blocks. Now it is 48. But actually, everything is put away for the Christmas tree and will be hauled out after January 4, 2011. Edie

So if you restarted tomorrow, how many yards of each color would you buy?
