Yes, it's true...I am cured of ever wanting to do applique again. I have attended 3 of 9 monthly "therapy" sessions. Although I am totally cured, I WILL persevere and attend the remaining sessions....just to make sure. Some of the applique pieces I am being forced to cut and attach to my quilt blocks are smaller that a pea, and as thin as a toothpick. Yup....I am cured.

I know what you mean! If I ever fo a another applique quilt all the pieces have to be a good size.

Your quilt will be beautiful. Just keep telling yourself that.

morelcabin 12-31-2010 03:10 PM

Haha! I remember thinking that...and then I moved onto the next one...RFLOL! Good luck!

Don't say that. That's something I want to try this year.

I love applique (machine), but I've never done such tiny pieces. I might change my mind if I do that.

Cyn 12-31-2010 03:19 PM

Show pictures when you are done please!

I will definitely post pix when done...this is a BOM class, so won't be finished 'til spring. And yes, it will be very pretty when done. Just not something I will tackle again.

Applique was on my list to try - maybe I can be cured also :)

sharon b 12-31-2010 03:49 PM

I think if I had a bunch of tiny pieces that might cure me also - but I love appliqueing bigger pieces

bj 12-31-2010 03:53 PM

I signed up at our LQS for a monthly block club (you pay a dollar for the kit. If you make it before the next meeting the next month you get the next one for a dollar. If you don't make it, the next kit is $5.) It's 2 things I'm not crazy about...applique' (because I don't really know how very well) and baskets. Not a big basket fan. They said I could do my own thing with the fabrics, but I'm going to make myself do the applique' baskets. Maybe!

amma 12-31-2010 04:41 PM

I admire your perseverence :D:D:D

littlehud 12-31-2010 06:19 PM

Applique is not my thing. I have tried and just don't like it. I love looking at it though.

3incollege 12-31-2010 06:23 PM

I just love applique but not that good at it, stick with it and I'm sure it will turn out great.

CarrieAnne 12-31-2010 06:23 PM

lol!

craftybear 12-31-2010 06:28 PM

that is great news

Yarn or Fabric 12-31-2010 06:39 PM

I think once would be enough for me ... In fact.. I think I would have to stop halfway through, thread paint the rest of the pieces and make it in to a table runner instead of a quilt lol.

You have more patience than I do!

DebraK 12-31-2010 06:49 PM

lol! as long as it's not catching ;-)

I remember a friend of mine who said she would NEVER do that "A" word. Well then we did a fund raising quilt where she agreed to do a block. After finishing the block I figured she would never touch applique again. In stead after seeing the end product she went on to do applique on most of her quilts. Now after swearing to never do the A word another friend helped with a machine applique project and is now hooked. I know its frustrating when learning, but my suggestion would be take the skills you have learned and then "do it your way". I rarely do hand applique anymore, its always machine work.

Tina BH 01-01-2011 06:38 AM

I love machine applique. I make up my own designs for projects and usually have an applique project going along with other quilt tops !!!

mimee4 01-01-2011 06:43 AM

Sounds like a lot of us need applique therapy!

qwkslver 01-01-2011 06:52 AM

Mine either. I tried it, it was a lot of work, and I thought this is kind of like coloring. Just filling in spaces with color. It's all my in-laws did. Beautiful but not my thing. I'm a piecer.

Nolee 01-01-2011 10:05 AM

I agree completely. I did one about 3 years ago and never did another.

morelcabin 01-01-2011 10:11 AM

The most challenging applique quilt I've ever done was my cousins snowmobile quilt....TONS of pieces that were less than a 1/2 inch...and then a whole lot more that weren't much bigger. But the look on his face when he saw that quilt was worth every one of them:)

Jim 01-01-2011 10:24 AM

Its like every other facet of our lives. We have things we like and things we don't. But if we don't try them we will never know...I like the variety of techniques in quilting. Every technique gives a different result and I like to spice my quilts up as well as my talents by trying them, I may never do one of them again but, when coming upon a new challenge for a quilt I may want to try in the future I then have the ability to master it. After almost 20 yrs of quilting I tried paper piecing this year and I really like it..some don't. Applique, I've done huge projects and they turn out very nice...its whatever floats your boat...lol

Roxanne 01-01-2011 12:31 PM

What funny thoughts from everyone....I too, tried my first applique this year. I had seen a quilt and thought it was so cool and had to try to copy it. The picture is still in my head----the finished product is NOT that picture.
I don't think I ever want to applique again either!

I love paper piecing - just takes practice & perserverence.

sewing4kix 01-01-2011 01:21 PM

I hated applique when I first tried it but several quilts later I love it! Small and large pieces both...even though I will say that the small ones really test my patience! lol There are still many many more techniques that you can choose from and make your own...keep your head up and your eyes uncrossed! :)

Congratulations! I, too, am cured of the same disease. I HATE hand sewing, and can't picture myself with enough patience to try machine applique.

Paper piecing is another subject, though .... LOVE LOVE LOVE that disease .... and hope I'm never cured! :-D

garysgal 01-01-2011 02:44 PM

I love paper piecing but don't like applique. Don't understand why. I don't mind cutting and putting it on, just don't like having to attach it. Paper piecing is different to me. You sew it on and you're done. Each to his own I guess.

IBQUILTIN 01-01-2011 04:39 PM

BTDT now I watch for applique fabrics everywhere, its my favorite technique

I love paper piecing but not the english kind. I agree though I do not like applique when it involves tiny pieces.

kathdavis 01-01-2011 05:30 PM

Trying applique is my New Year's resolution. I'm starting with big, big pieces. My new machine does a great blanket stitch. I really like paper piecing.

Farm Quilter 01-01-2011 05:59 PM

I like applique with fusible on it only. Really dislike hand work of any kind, so I doubt I'll ever try any other kind of applique. It's lovely, just not for me to do!

Tweety2911 01-01-2011 06:53 PM

I admire others for undertaking this task and enjoy seeing their quilts.

Treasureit 01-01-2011 06:57 PM

I love applique! I feel more creative with that than sewing little pieces together for hours on end. I do get bored when I satin stitch tho...but there is always a new piece to attach and then...beautiful things appear!

I love hand applique, machine applique not so much, detest paper-piecing. That's what I love about quilting - there's something for everyone,

CraftyGardenMom 01-01-2011 08:31 PM

LOL, this is why I stick with fusible applique only!
