... that Hoffman is not coming out with any new FQ batik bundles. They're doing new Bali Pops, but not the FQs.

Am I the only one that is disappointed in this?

Or are their Bali Pops just way more popular than the FQs?

(I think the last time they did new FQ bundles was about two years ago.)

DebraK 10-27-2011 10:00 AM

I prefer FQ or yardage.

Zhillslady 10-27-2011 10:01 AM

I prefer fat quarters to the pop strips but luckily my LQS will cut FQ from anything on the shelf so I can get the new colors that way.

QuiltnNan 10-27-2011 10:07 AM

i prefer yardage.

Hate to show my ignorance, but what is a "pop"?

I was picturing a Tootsie pop. :-)

Thanks! I should have thought to do a search.

Grandma58 10-27-2011 10:23 AM

Hey I didn't know either.

Maybe it's just a local thing, but I sell way more precuts (jelly rolls, bali pops, etc.) than FQ or FQ bundles. Perhaps it goes in cycles? The precuts seem to be all the rage right now.

sewbeadit 10-27-2011 10:28 AM

I don't know about the fat quarters, but I haven't found a place that I can see the bali pops fabric. I know fabricdepot.com online store has had a sale on some hoffman batiks of late.

Doreen 10-27-2011 10:46 AM

I prefer fq and yardage!

wraez 10-27-2011 10:47 AM

Someone should let them know that fat quarters are always in demand. I've never used a bali pop and have no plans to do so.

fabric_fancy 10-27-2011 10:57 AM

i only buy yardage

Lori S 10-27-2011 11:01 AM

I suppose the pops have been so popular that they are dropping the FQ's.... But I would always rather have FQ's over the Pop's.... So much more versitile !

sandybeach 10-27-2011 11:01 AM

I never buy fat quarters. But I will buy bali pops in a heartbeat.

seamstome 10-27-2011 12:21 PM

I wont buy bali pops again because of the irregular cutting. Yeah yeah I know poor people, yada, yada...which would be fine if I was donating but I am paying a pretty penny

JanetM 10-27-2011 12:27 PM

I have some of their Bali-Pops, but they limit what you can make. I prefer the FQ's. I hope they change their minds. I love their FQ bundles, especially their Christmas bundles.

Maia B 10-27-2011 12:55 PM

Well, any shop can cut and bundle their own FQs from the yardage. Now if you told me no more pops....WAAAAH!

Maia B 10-27-2011 01:00 PM

Omgosh, JanetM, I LOVE your avatar! Reminds me of my first cockatiel, Lemon, a cinnamon pearl pied, and her mate Kirby, a plain pearl. He was small and plain-looking, but an excellent talker and superb father. All his male offspring talked. Their babies were beautiful and very affectionate. They were both devoted pets, even after breeding.

My LQS will cut on demand. I recently went in and got FQs of the Sherbet Pips collection and it was so less expensive than buying the collection on line!!! and no shipping!!!

QKO 10-27-2011 03:47 PM

Yes, Nan, we miss their FQ towers also. We sold a lot of them and they were very popular.

weezie 10-27-2011 05:09 PM

I went the Bali Pop route one time for my first and only French Braid. I'll never buy them again. Unless the cutting accuracy has improved immensely, the advertised 2-1/2" width is unreliable. And anyway, I prefer yard goods. I've never bought fat quarters, but I might.

Mariposa 10-27-2011 05:14 PM

I prefer yardage over strips, but those "pops" are a bit pricey too!

It's true, any shop can make their own FQ bundles... and I might just have to do that.

But... with 14-20 different fabrics in each bundle, I don't think I could afford to do a dozen colorways, like Hoffman did. But then again, when they come out with new Bali pops they only do six colorways. So maybe I wouldn't have to be all THAT ambitious.

I was so hoping that they would have done FQ bundles of the lovely seahorse/seashell ones they made last year. Those were simply gorgeous. (sigh)

QKO 10-27-2011 07:24 PM

They used to do the big 839 FQ towers -- we sold the heck out of them, loved em. Big investment to buy 30 or 40 bolts of the same line though...

Favorite Fabrics 10-27-2011 07:30 PM

You're not kidding about that.

Let's see... I could order 100 bolts of batiks, and make five different gorgeous FQ bundles... but then we won't be able to buy anything else all month and... only batik lovers will be happy with me and everyone else will be mad.

Hmmmm... I don't think I should do that. :|

(It sure would be fun, though!)

Traditional 10-28-2011 04:08 AM

I think their demand is yardage not FQ. I always do large quilts and need more.

JanetP 10-28-2011 04:39 AM

Fat quarters and yardage.

yardage over pre-cuts of any sort, whether FQ or pops.

Barb44 10-28-2011 05:10 AM

I only buy yardage. Precuts are too expensive for me. The first time I ordered from Connecting Threads I ordered the precut squares to see what the fabric was like. Now they are in my scrap box.

Kath12 10-28-2011 05:32 AM

I hadn't heard about this. I prefer yardage or fat quarters

Quilter2B 10-28-2011 06:56 AM

I prefer yardage but sometimes will pickup FQs if the color strikes my fancy.

Annaquilts 10-28-2011 06:59 AM

No I am dissapointed too. I have not bought any Bali pops or plan to buy any. I don't want to be limited to strips. I guess I will have a smaller selelction and only buy yardage if I need it.

Annaquilts 10-28-2011 07:01 AM

Most shops do not buy the whole line. Also I prefer cut by manufacture as the ones cut in the store tend to have more problems.

nursie76 10-28-2011 07:07 AM

You are going to laugh at me, but I have purchased small FQ bundles because I liked the look of the fabrics together, but have yet to open one to use, cause never can decide what to do with just 5 or so FQ's. I even have the turning twenty books - all of them and have yet to crack open a FQ bundle. Just like to look at them...kinda like eye candy. Now pops or jelly rolls, don't have as much trouble opening and using them. (But the pops are eye candy too!) All that said, I would probably go for the yardage.

I've been looking at your selection of Batik FQ bundles and wishing for a larger selection of color families. Guess I better purchase what you have available now ... to meet my current need. Thanks for the info.

I have purchased both FQ, bali pops and my latest was yardage from a lady on QB - which I just received, see my picture, I am so happy with the choices she sent - me nice variety. I will get purchase more from her - so nice to deal with and not expensive - PM me if you want more info.

Nantie 10-28-2011 09:14 AM

Batiks Plus does offer some batik fq bundles..i believe they only sell hoffman fabrics but I could be wrong on that. They do have some bundles of 20 on their website for around $47..I don't know if this would be of any help to you I just thought i would pass it along.

Moda just posted pictures of their February 2012 lines and Holly Taylor has a collection called "Sunrise, Sunset" which includes ... batiks!

And Moda does do batik bundles.

Here is a quick picture to give you an idea:
