Hey everyone ! My husband and I just bought a new house and even though the girls will have their own bedrooms for the very first time it is a little smaller.

The good news is my husband is building, or closing in a room for me in our shop building and i will have my very first sewing space/room ! YAY everything will all be in one space! The room is gonna be huge 25 x 15 i think he said! WOW I'm excited ! I will post pictures when he gets it all done! Bonus! There will be enough room for me to put all my vintage machines on the wall so i can look lovingly at the ones I'm not using!!

Rebecca VLQ 08-16-2010 05:18 AM

Wooooo! Start dreaming of storage space, because you are gonna need it!!! :D

MZStitch 08-16-2010 05:20 AM

When we moved 5 years ago it was a top priority for me to have my own sewing room in my new house. It's so wonderful for so many reasons! Enjoy!

wvdek 08-16-2010 05:30 AM

Wow. You have been blessed. New home and new sewing space. Enjoy!

nursie76 08-16-2010 05:32 AM

What a wonderful thing! I have my own room, it is small and crowded, but I love it! Only thing is my Juki and frame have taken over the dining room....would love to have a large enough space for it to be all together.

Yes, please, send pics!

sewmuchmore 08-16-2010 05:41 AM

Congratulations!!! Have fun in your new space and please post a pictures.

sandiphi 08-16-2010 05:44 AM

Make sure you have lots of lighting, plenty of plugs and wall space for that design wall. And with a space that big maybe someday you can put a long arm in there.

Theresa 08-16-2010 05:59 AM

Happy News! Enjoy your new digs!

Melinda in Tulsa 08-16-2010 06:06 AM

Congratulations! Having a separate sewing room is wonderful. One of the nice things about being an empty nester, I have a spare bedroom for sewing and a guest room (that is used for storage!) Rarely ever have overnight guests. Have fun with your new room.

pojo 08-16-2010 06:12 AM

you are very lucky

craftybear 08-16-2010 06:56 AM

AnnieF 08-16-2010 08:32 AM

Congrats....having your own space gives you the option of sewing at a moment's notice....and since I work 40 hours a week....sometimes I just want to sit and sew for 5 or 10 minutes....it adds up!

Tally Kathy 08-16-2010 08:33 AM

Enjoy! Look at IKEA, Pottery Barn, etc., catalogs for good storage shelves, cabinets and then see if you can make look alikes or buy cheaper at stores or online.

Quilter7x 08-16-2010 08:35 AM

Wow, what a nice size room you're going to have! You're going to go crazy trying to figure out what you want to go here or there. There are some books on designing sewing spaces, maybe they can give you ideas you haven't thought of yet. You've got a really nice hubby who takes your sewing seriously enough to do this for you.

kclausing 08-16-2010 09:01 AM

Good for you! My hubby gave me space in our finished basement. Still waiting for my large cutting table, but for now I have 2 tables serving my needs. I love it!

Tally Kathy is right...Do a search here for An English Country Sewing Room and see what she has done. Her cutting table you can find at Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60045393. She put two of them back to back, filled the shelves with bins and put her cutting mats on top. They are a great height for cutting. I can't afford them, but my husband is going to build me something similar.

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS! It is such a blessing to have your own space!

BellaBoo 08-16-2010 09:13 AM

One good thing about having lots of bedrooms when the kids are home is when they leave the rooms are empty! I have four spare bedrooms now.

amma 08-16-2010 10:53 AM

Woo Hoo! :D:D:D

Joeysnana 08-16-2010 11:14 AM

Please send us pics when you have it all organized. I am getting a 20 x 20 sewing room in one year and I need ideas!!

Katia 08-16-2010 11:52 AM

I was just looking at a magazine at the store yesterday called, Where Woman Create. (I think) It was so beautiful. It had the work spaces of designers like Amy Butler and lots of others. I was going to buy it, but it was pretty expensive. But wow, it sure was full of ideas for work places.

Congrats! That will be nice to have your very own sewing space!

My dream is to have that one day too. I live in a 2 story house with a finished basement. I have sewing stuff on all three levels.

Please post pics when you can of your new space.

quiltin amma 08-16-2010 04:19 PM

sometimes husbands do understand us! Mine transformed an empty bedroom and it's wonderful--if he's that handy he can make you custom cabinets for a fraction of the price Hahn's wants. Mine even make a sewing table with the exact cutout of my benina so I have a wonderful 3 x 5 foot flat sewing surface.

When we built our home 50 years ago, the architect put a sewing room in the plans. It was great That lasted six months when my DH decided to move his radio equipment in the same room. Reason......It was where the phone was.

As my four sons moved out I Moved from one bedroom to another until the sons at one time or another had to move back for money reasons.

They are all finally in their own homes and DH has passed on. I now have the Florida room which is 25' x25' all to myself and three empty bedrooms for the overflow. I'm in heaven. Of course, my family think I'm nuts to have so much fabric and so many machines. Their problem, not mine. My doctor says I'm not certifiable yet but maybe in another 20 years.

cmworrall 08-17-2010 04:24 AM

Congrats! I just got my own room a little over a week ago. We are now empty-nesters. Our kids both moved out within the last 2 months. My husband has his den and I have my sewing room. I used to have the basement which wasn't too bad. I had lots of room - I had 3 6' tables so I could spread out my projects, but it was also kinda damp and musty down there.

We're so lucky. Florida doesn't have basements usually. Just heeeeeeeaaaaaattttt. Oh yes and a hurricane once in awhile. If you have lived in Florida as long as I have, you learn to stay in the air-conditioning and how to duck for storms.

littlehud 08-17-2010 08:17 AM

I am so happy for you. Have fun in your new room.

El'sgrandma 08-17-2010 11:40 AM

Hurray Hurray You will love having your own space It is soooooooo wonderful. My DH just keeps making mine better. I have to be careful what I ask for in there because he tries to do it right away, and I'm afraid it will get too crowded
