I'm a happy girl!

This President's Day weekend has been fun.

Friday, I won several online auctions for some great Moda charm packs I've had my eye on.

Saturday, DH encouraged me to go to a LQS about 40 minutes away (which isn't that far, considering where I live!) and spend some time building up my stash. I came away thinking I had found my LQS "home."

Sunday, I made two jelly roll race tops, and yes, ripped out the seam on that binding I sewed on wrong a week ago.

Today, I need interfacing for some Kindle covers, so I went off to JoAnn since I'm prior military and would get a 20% discount instead of just the 10%. I was waiting in line for cutting, and wandered over to the sewing tables. They had one for $269, which looked like it would work in my small space. Then I realized it was on sale for $161. And then I asked if I could use the 20% off for the table and the cashier said yes, so I became the owner of this:

It's a big step up from the wobbly folding banquet table I have been using!

Best part is, I saved $187 and spent less than $170 for the desk, 10 yards of fabric, interfacing, thread and some odds and ends I need for the Kindle covers. I just realized that I need a proper cutting mat too (mine is only 12 inches), so I'm having hubby stop and get me a big one on his way home tonight. Let's hope the rest of the week goes so great!

Wow - sounds like you had a fun time...is your husband still so happy he encouraged you?? lol

MamaO2011 02-20-2012 11:35 AM

LOL. He will be until I take over the bedroom - and if he keeps sending me to the LQS, that's going to happen way sooner than later!

pinkberrykay 02-20-2012 11:38 AM

What a great score!! Enjoy your new sewing table.

yngldy 02-20-2012 11:56 AM

Wow, lucky girl! Nice cabinet. Pick out a couple of quilts you want to make and cut out pieces. That will free up room and you will have something to work on when you find a few spare minutes. I started doing that this year and seem to be getting more quilting done than in the past. Those few minutes add up quickly.

aorlflood 02-20-2012 12:01 PM

Wootwoot!! Nice deal!

babyboomerquilter 02-20-2012 12:05 PM

Sounds like you're having a great quilting weekend! I love it when I have weekends like that! Makes it easier to go back to work knowing I accomplished something that I love. Enjoy that new table!

Wow, what a weekend! Great time! I wasn't aware Joanns gives military discounts...uhm better get on that one, I could have already saved a bundle! LOL

SouthPStitches 02-20-2012 07:12 PM

You are on a roll. Abe and George would be happy for you.

MamaO2011 02-20-2012 07:25 PM

T-Anne, I'm not sure if it's an all te time discount; it was noted in my Presidents Day sales email so it might ave just been for the holiday.

We got the table put together and it is now upstairs. I'll go tomorrow to get a couple of shelves for the wall and get everything organized. The hubby likes the table a lot. He wanted to know what I was going to use the swing out side for, since I didn't have another machine. I told him I thought I'd make it a place to iron. He looks at the box, sees the photo with a serger and says "why don't you get one of those things?" He is such an enabler!

Nanaquilts44 02-20-2012 07:36 PM

What a great long weekend you have had! Enjoy all your new things.

nstitches4u 02-20-2012 08:15 PM

I just wanted to tell you that I have this table. I love it. HOWEVER, watch for the edge where you set your sewing machine. It is very sharp and you have to keep kids and dogs away from it. Bess has bumped her head and I have bumped against it and scratched my arm. If you have some white duct tape or something, it might help. My work area is open when I am sewing and I leave it there until I am done. Then I clean up everything and close it up until I need it again. The sewing machine fits on the floor under the shelf in the front there. I don't use the back just because I don't have the room to pull it out and open it up. The drawer is kind of wonky as is the door. Make sure you remember to unlock the wheels in the front when you open and close it. I leave a little room on the "table" where the sewing machine goes and keep my scissors, my orange stick and a can of pop or glass of wine there when I am working! I do NOT use the table for a cutting board. I have my Olfa mat on the top - the 12x18 and that works absolutely perfect for me when I am cutting squares. I keep my cd player, my tool basket, my dog-ear bowl, pins, lamp and my "getting ready to bloom" amaryllis. I put it together myself. I figured if I was the one to use it, I wanted to put it together myself. It isn't hard, but you will realize that it isn't solid walnut!!!!!!!!! Which, if I had my druthers, I would much rather have, but being that I don't have a walnut sewing table, I am very happy with this one! The drawer is quite narrow (small) and don't plan on putting a whole lot of stuff in there - It just "ain't" gonna fit! But it does keep the stuff you don't use as often out of the way. Like candy and stuff!!!!! Enjoy your new sewing table. I do love mine!!!! It has become my second home. It is placed in front of the window facing east and I can see the sunrise, the neighbors walking their dogs or their children, greet them out the window in the summer. My husband gave it to me for Christmas, 2010. Enjoy. Edie

LoriMcc 02-22-2012 04:42 AM

Katie,
I'm so happy for you! It sounds like things are really going well and you are up and on your way to sewing some very special quilts! Happy days! Enjoy your "new" sewing area and thanks for sharing it with us. Also, thanks for your service to our country. My future son-in-law is in Afghanistan right now.

Likewise, I got that table on a similar deal several years ago. As Edie mentioned, the drawers are close to useless. I made a table topper from foam insulation board in which the machine fits, giving me a smooth surface on which to work. Another addition was an ironing pad for the right hand swing out, with hanging pockets. It fits on the swing out like a glove. Even though this is my "guest room", I've never felt a need to close the unit. I fold down the cutting table, and open the futon. They can like it or leave. Getting a pic was difficult - I couldn't back up far enough. The table is in front of the window, but because of the floor to ceiling shelves of fabric, the curtains stay closed most of the time.

MargeD 02-22-2012 07:11 AM

WOW Congratulations. I didn't even know that JoAnn's had a cutting table like that. Awesome. Congratulations again and thank you for your service to your country.

Quilt Novice 02-22-2012 07:17 AM

Happy Linda 02-22-2012 07:21 AM

callen 02-22-2012 12:59 PM

What a buy !!! $161.00 & you got another 20% off that. I call that a "great day" & I'm sure your hubby is happy too. Look at all the $ you saved. LOL

JanieH 02-22-2012 02:53 PM

Congratulations on a happy and productive weekend! And thank you for your military service!

Ann L 02-23-2012 02:58 PM

Sweet. I am also looking for a sewing table but I want to be able to set my machine down inside the table.

MamaO2011 02-23-2012 04:56 PM

Ann, I'm sure if you have a crafty husband, he could modify this table and sink your machine. The tops are very sturdy! I thought about it, but I love the measurement lines so I'm good with it as is.
