If you had thought of it, a portable GPS you could have bought at WalMart would have showed your speed and mileage. I could drive using mine without a dashboard readout. I'm glad you are home! I opt for comfort and luxury in a car so I'm a caddy driver too!

When you look back over the years this will be one of your favorite vacations. I drive a one ton diesel dually Dodge pick up. An F-150 would be like a sports car for me! It is a little harder to get into since my center of gravity has gotten so much larger though.

Sounds like you did the best you could. It sounds like it was a productive time any way.

I laughed hysterically over your very funny story, despite the car trouble! I am under 5 ft tall and my ex is 6'2". He insisted on buying an F150 supercab with manual transmission and he didn't care whether I could actually drive it or not. He wouldn't put blocks on the pedals for me so on the occasions that I had to drive it, I had to scoot way down to shift and get back in the seat and make sure the pillow was still in the right place really fast so I could see where I was going! I hated that truck and didn't think it was very funny at the time, but I survived to tell the story. Thanks bunches for sharing that story with us!!

You both get a thumbs up from me for being so resourceful and you certainly didn't let a little car trouble wreck your trip to Paducah. In life, we have to try to be flexible and you guys certainly made a potentially awful trip into a good one.

(I loved the part about going to Walmart to buy a mat and cutter so you could cut out your fabric.......sounds like something I would do....)

My DH recently bought an new F150, and I love driving it. It has running boards (the big pipe kind), so I don't have trouble getting in and out, plus I'm 5'6"--no doubt taller than any of you two adventurers. What I like best is that I can see all around me so much better than in a car.
