Would anyone have any ideas for patterns for boys - young men? It seems like most are made for girls.

If he is into sports, music, or a particular interest, look for those patterns in fabric, then design your own. I'm doing a basic (blocks and strips, and a few triangles maybe) quilt similar to the one I did for my 3 year old grandson. This one will be baseball related and will, as did the 3 year old's quilt, include actual photos of the 11+ year old playing his games this summer.

Check out www.quilterscache.com

So many times it is not the pattern but the fabric that makes it gender specific! :-D

Oh I agree it's the fabric that they will look at more than the pattern. Unless you do a lot of applique I think using fabric oriented to his likes is easier. Make sure to post when it's done so we can all ohh and ahh, LOL

There are so many novelty fabrics that you could match to his likes. At his age, I would use the more adult types rather than the cartoon looking ones.

my son want me to make him "da vinci"

scroll down, it's the red and black one

Its not too hard, you put it together rather like a bargello.

So did you make it for him? If so can we see a picture? Looks like it would be amazing.

That is on my list of "to do" projects, hopefully this year, I have printed off the pattern and that as far as I have gotten so far. LOL

I am so with you on that!! I have piles of patterns I've printed to do "someday", hmm going to be 60 this year, maybe I should get going on some of those, LOL

I agree that it is the fabric that defines a quilt. My oldest DGS loves dogs so I found some really cute dog fabric. I am going to do it in simple blocks (12" so you can really see the dogs) with double sashing around each block. Very simple, but he will love it.
