I didn't take the time to read through all of them. Look up "wooden iron"..in google. I tried to post a picture..no luck. I found the web site again. It has a picture of what I'm talking about. www.softexpressions.com/software/notions/iron6.php - Cached |
I have one and it is called a point turner. I usually use a chop stick though because it is longer and thinner and fits in to tighter places. The point turner is also good to use as a handy presser for short seams.

I have a plastic one that I bought at a quilt shop. It is a point turner. I use the point for the corners and use the rounded edge on curves or for turning circles. I don't recall what I paid for it, but it is a plastic white thing that quilt shops sell. Good luck in finding one, Huggies, Fay

I have the bamboo point turner...have had it for ages! But occasionally I still push out the corner, too!! LOL

No, you didn't dream or make it up! I used to have one and have been looking for another one! Sorry, can't remember, if I ever even knew, what the name of the tool it.
|
I have such a tool. I brought it years ago for dressmaking. It's called a point turner and made of bamboo. Still one of my favorite tools! Maybe you can find it at JoAnns? Good luck!
|
I use a chop stick too!
|
I do not know the name of it but a cutical stick works, also a wooden spoon works. Try the quilt shops and ask. Could it be a stilleto?
|
I think what you are looking for is called a "woodeni iron". It is about 2 1/2 inches long and tapered.

I think that it's called a bone folder. Alot of scrapbookers use them. I like my "purple thing". It has a curve at the pointed end which works good. Have you tried Clotilda catalogue? It has a ton of gagits for sewing.

Is this it? It's called a Point Turner and Presser. I just bought this (package unopened) at an estate sale last week for $1.

Deb great find. That's what I was thinking of. My chemo brain came up with it being called a bone folder.
|
You know I don't think that Bone Folder is so far fetched. My husband cleans & dyes carpet. He has an old whale bone (don't know if it's really whale, but that's what it's called) and it's shaped the same way. I'm not quite sure what it's used for, but it is bone.

I have the plastic one and use it all the time and it works great.

Thank all of you for your responses. Once I knew what to call the darn thing, I didn't have any trouble finding them. I plan to get one at JoAnns or Hobby Lobby the next time I'm out their way. Again, thanks.
|
I have one made of bamboo. I have had it for years and years. Have seen it in Joanns.

sounds like the wood piece that Elna Burns uses to "Iron",press sewn seams. Or also there is a flat round end, on one end and pointed on the other. this is used to turn applique pieces. These can be found in different quilt supply cataloges and QS's.
