I finally finished piecing this wall hanging yesterday (all Civil War prints), but I am totally stuck on how to quilt this. It just isn't talking to me about how to do it (at least it's not talking loud enough for me to hear!).

I've thought of feather rings in each section....I really don't think an edge-to-edge is what this needs, but I'm just too tired to be creative tonight and figure this out. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Feathers seems kind of Civil War like to me and a great idea! Beautiful quilt!!!

i think it needs something roundish since there are so many angles in the quilt. i can only think of clamshells, but you didn't want edge to edge. sorry. no other suggestions.

Feathers sound like a great idea!

When I don't have a clue myself, I fall back on stippling or FMQ. What I am seeing is a SID and some echo quilting. Sleep on it and I hope you wake up at 2:00 in the morning and you will KNOW how it should be!

I'm liking the SID idea.....maybe that with a feather border? Bed's a calling....so maybe I'll wake up with the answer lol.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have seen many discussions on how straight lines and angles need some round elements to soften them at times, but the lines are so clean in your quilt I'm not visualizing the feather rings. I think echo quilting, especially in the triangles [triangle quilting with just a hint of curve, do you know what I mean?], and then something with some curve on the borders, but not as much as feathers. Well this seems to be clear as mud; my bargello-in-progress is getting to me, I must go to bed. I'm sure it will talk to you tomorrow; maybe it's tired too...

Another idea would be to find a template design that fits the blocks, and quilt that over the blocks, and then some plain/straight quilting through the sashings...hard to describe, but it may work. I probably wouldn't do stippling over the whole quilt.

I would stitch in the ditch around all of the triangles and then also do a 1/4" in on the inside of all the triangles.
