Microwave bowl holders, luggage tags, tea bag carrier, pin cushions. The patterns I have for all of these were free on the internet. Craftsy has many free patterns, and I especially like SewMamaSew.

One year I made Chai Latte Mix and gave everyone a container. That was a big hit. I'll put the recipe in the recipe section. Also I have made the sugar scrub for hands and put in big plastic candy dishes with lids. I still get thank yous for that gift from several years ago.

Check the allpeoplequilts.com site, they have really cute fabric boxes and bags, fast and easy and you can use all you scraps.

this year I am making pincushions from coffee cups, plant containers in special shapes, etc. They are really cute and they can remove the stuffing and use the item for it's original purpose if they want to. I am trying to match up the container to the recipient. Purple cup for the purple lover, butterfly cup for the butterfly lover, elephant plant holder for the elephant collector, etc.

One year I made every guild member a Ba-Humbug bag to store small sewing items in. A friend told me she doubted she would ever use it, but mid way through the winter, she wrote that that bag was her favorite gift as she was using it all the time. I put a pair of small scissors in it as well as other small gifts.

Fill up clear plastic or glass christmas ornaments....
2 Attachment(s)
You can find the clear ornaments at hobby and craft stores. I have filled one with embroidery thread left over from projects. The other you can see is filled with selvages. You could fill them with fabric scraps, tiny buttons etc...
These are fast to make. You can personalize the outside with a paint pen with a friend's name or sewing group name. |
My favorite little gift from when I worked in a preschool was a nice whisk filled with hershey's kisses and tied with a bow. The attached card said, "We whisk you a Merry Christmas!". Simple, easy and her preschooler had fun inserting the kisses into the whisk.

I made some scrappy fabric Christmas ornaments (mainly out of collegiate fabric) for gifts and they were well received. The third picture is of snowflake ornaments I made.
