Inner border....blue or purple?

I have been auditioning borders all afternoon and have it narrowed down to two. Which would you lean torwards? A purple inner border or a blue inner border?

I appreciate your opinion...

Purple border

bearisgray 06-17-2015 06:50 PM

Of the two, I like the purple one better.

The blue/aqua seems to be too "light" to anchor the center.

hray 06-17-2015 06:56 PM

Purple! Sets it off much better.

Pinkiris 06-17-2015 06:57 PM

I agree-the purple sets it off better. Beautiful bargello!

quiltorelse 06-17-2015 06:59 PM

Blue seems to stop the movement. I say blue.

quiltsRfun 06-17-2015 07:07 PM

I like purple

Mariposa 06-17-2015 07:11 PM

Purple! :)

daisydawg 06-17-2015 08:27 PM

Love the purple!

Nanax4 06-17-2015 08:34 PM

purple! sets it off better.

notmorecraft 06-17-2015 09:03 PM

Purple makes it pop.

Tumdarra 06-17-2015 09:40 PM

yup purple looks better

bibliostone 06-17-2015 10:06 PM

The blue is more striking. The purple blends into the black.

QuiltnNan 06-18-2015 03:12 AM

i like the blue as it seems to brighten bargello

GailG 06-18-2015 03:22 AM

I suppose, in the end, it is all a matter of personal preference. Purple is a color that tends to bring me down, but I love anything turquoisy. So I say the blue.

Tartan 06-18-2015 03:32 AM

Blue for me. Lovely top!

ManiacQuilter2 06-18-2015 03:44 AM

Hi Dina. Purple........

Agreed. So it depends on which look you want.

NJ Quilter 06-18-2015 04:09 AM

To me, they are both great choices. I think it really depends on which of the two colors within the quilt you want to be more dominant. Each border really brings it's own color 'forward'. Is this for yourself? Do you have a specific place in mind for it? Which of those 2 colors work best with the location you plan to use the quilt? If it's a gift, does the recipient have a more definite favorite of the 2 colors? Those would be my deciding factors.

WandaVA 06-18-2015 04:13 AM

Purple is my favorite color--but for this quilt, I think the blue works better.

Dina 06-18-2015 04:29 AM

Thanks for the opinions. I am sure struggling making this decision. I really want to use the purple, my favorite color, but I think the blue actually looks better, makes it look not as dark.

The quilt is for me. It will go on a chair here in my sewing room.

Decisions, decisions, decisions....

Both are nice but purple seems to stand out more as a frame. ;-)

Dina 06-18-2015 05:06 AM

Okay, now I am leaning towards purple. Phooey....I thought I was closer to making up my mind. I am going to go ahead and cut enough of each color to surround more of the quilt, and maybe that will help...

Maybe not. :)

I like the purple better because it keeps the colors in the bargello vibrant and the star of the show. The blue border seems to say "Look at me, look at me!!!" In my mind the work of the border is to frame the quilt center not draw attention away from it. JMHO

Jordan 06-18-2015 06:00 AM

I think the purple may be winning out but I really prefer the blue. I think it really brightens the quilt. Good Luck!!!

I agree. Purple is my vote.

Nanax4 06-18-2015 06:37 AM

I can see why you like the blue; it definitely lightens it up. But I like the purple because it doesn't wash the quilt out so much. So....if the goal is to lighten up the quilt, what about one of the *other* purple shades from the quilt? Or a darker blue?

Monale 06-18-2015 06:42 AM

When I looked at the two pics, I immediately liked the purple border better. Seems the majority of the other quilters share that opinion...

fatquarters 06-18-2015 06:50 AM

my first thought was I love the purple......but looking a second time, the blue really does more for the quilt. And it shows up nicely from the black boarder. I would probably go blue

Angel Bear 06-18-2015 07:00 AM

Purple! Your quilt is gorgeous!

nativetexan 06-18-2015 07:00 AM

Wow, as much as I say I love purple, i think the blue looks best. Perhaps because the blue piecing goes to the corners.

Birdscraps 06-18-2015 07:01 AM

Beautiful work and I'm on team purple!

KristenJ 06-18-2015 07:52 AM

TEAM BLUE!!! But keep in mind that blue is my very favorite color and I'm not a huge fan of purple. LOL. So basically I'm no help. But that quilt is simply beautiful whichever you decide that's for sure! They both look really great. I think its just a matter of do you like the purple or blue best? If you are more fond of purple then I'd go with that.

tammyg 06-18-2015 07:57 AM

Purple.....

Misty's Mom 06-18-2015 07:57 AM

I'm in the blue camp

calla 06-18-2015 07:57 AM

I vote purple too

IQ2 06-18-2015 08:27 AM

sorry to add to your confusion, but I LOVE the way the blue looks on your gorgeous quilt. I think it does way more for the movement of the design than the purple.

Dina 06-18-2015 09:29 AM

Well, currently I am on the Purple Team. It is time to quit pondering this and get on with it....

Surely I can do that soon! :)

The blue stops the motion, the purple continues it. Both will be beautiful. Is there something you want to match in the room? or is it to be a gift? If so, what colors does that person like? Honestly, you cannot go wrong using either color. Your quilt is just gorgeous!

edited to add: Bargello's are all about movement....I have to vote purple. Keep the movement going.

Three Dog Night 06-18-2015 09:52 AM

Both are beautiful but if given choice I would pick the purple, it frames the quilt better.
