Interesting find at Joann's -

I popped into Joann's today as it is the last day of the 50% notions wall and I need some more needles. Quilting stuff was not on sale but I looked there anyway. I saw a small section of Dritz Longarm supplies. They had long arm needles, long rolls of paper (would this be for pantographs?) for marking the quilt designs on, another long roll of clear plastic for drawing and then auditioning the quilt designs. They had a reducing glass, and a roll of screen material for drawing the quilting design. There were a few other things as well. Interesting

Has anyone else seen these items at their Joann's? I'm very curious about it because I can't imagine that there is a large call for these types of items at my local store. I might be wrong, though.

i noticed a couple weeks ago the was a small area for long arm supplies.

Good to know... Even though my quilting table is made for my regular machine, a couple of those things would come in handy for me too.

momto5 04-21-2012 04:00 PM

Saw a few items at Hancock's in SC...haven't been to JoAnn's yet. They're not stocking the stuff I'd be interested in though...like the fancy rulers, etc.....

klc 04-21-2012 04:42 PM

They just redid our Jo-Ann's and those items have been added also.

Mariposa 04-21-2012 04:43 PM

I'm gonna have to go check it out!

justme 04-21-2012 05:10 PM

Saw them the other day tooo!!

Stitchnripper 04-21-2012 07:15 PM

I saw a small section of these items at the new JoAnn's in Baton Rouge.

Just went to a brand new JoAnn's today - it has only been open a week and boy was I impressed with this fabulous store. It is about 40 miles from here - much nicer than the one 50 miles from here. But, I did not see, but wouldn't probably have noticed anything to do with a longarm machine in the notions section. But, there were some longarm stuff (rulers maybe) in the quilting section. Almost everything was on sale so did not even use my 50% coupons.

Ruby the Quilter 04-21-2012 09:25 PM

That would be nice - my JoAnn's is old and small so probably won't get this.

indymta 04-22-2012 03:24 AM

Same here. The store recently moved to a new location and a few weeks later I noticed those new items.

Karissa 04-22-2012 03:49 AM

Our Joanns don't have any longarm supplies at ALL & there must be at least a doz in a 50 mile area. I have to order my supplies or pay a arm & leg for them.

It was the same at my store. That drives me crazy! The books were 40% off but there was no sign. I was looking forward to using my coupon on a book.

lfstamper 04-22-2012 04:33 AM

Good sign that they are keeping up with demands. I will have to check out mine!

#1piecemaker 04-22-2012 04:40 AM

This is nice to know. I've never seen anything for longarms at any of the stores around me. But, maybe thye will have by the time I get my longarm.

Geri B 04-22-2012 05:52 AM

Yes, I was there the other day and saw the longarm stuff too.......not much, but interesting. They had needles for them too, I was tempted to buy a package, but then I did not.......I'll keep getting from my supplier...don't want to mess up anything with an inferior needle....saw that roll of light weight paper too, am guessing it could be used to draw a design, temp adhere to top of quilt and then proceed to quilt on the paper and then tear off, like the gold paper offered from a supplier-can't remember name now.......and I guess the vinyl could be used to draw a design onto and lay on top of quilt just to see how it looks???????

joyce888 04-22-2012 06:39 AM

Yes saw them in the JoAnns here in GA. I don't do my LA'ing but I am curious if the prices are reasonable and if most LA'rs buy on-line or at quilt shops.

Christine27 04-22-2012 07:39 AM

Our Joanns had these supplies too. I first saw them about 2 weeks ago. I bought the plastic since sometimes what looks good on my white board doesn't work out on the quilt. Ask me how I know!

Lavada 04-22-2012 08:38 AM

Our Joanne's is a joke not much of anything

nstitches4u 04-22-2012 11:27 AM

I'll have to check out our JoAnn's. I haven't been there for a while. I wasn't seeing much that interested me. Our JoAnn's is managed by a man and I'm not impressed! lol. He doesn't seem to be in touch with quilters. Most of the store is crafts, scrapbooking, picture frames and knickknacks. Our Hancock store seems to be going the same way. Since we are retired, we take day trips to quilt shops in some small towns in the area.

auntiehenno 04-22-2012 11:40 AM

One of the closest Joann's is closing May 7. I liked it because you didn't have to stand in line 7 deept to get fabric cut, as with the other store about 15 min. from here. If I have to it there, I will complain. ALso register lines are long, none of this is good customer service.
Nice you found the surprise.

carolynjo 04-22-2012 11:50 AM

I just wish there was a Joann's closer than 2 hours away.

patdesign 04-22-2012 03:28 PM

I think it must be some new things they have added, saw some too. ALSO, has anyone else noticed a change over from Sulky to pellon stablilzers? My store is letting theSulky run out and replacing with pellon, which is less $, but I was just feeling comfortable which Sulky ones to use when I use my embroidery machine.(bought the book) NOW WHAT

DonnaQuilts 04-22-2012 04:55 PM

I haven't see this at our JoAnns, but maybe I didn't look in the right place. Sounds intriguing. Bet I look next time. Tkanks for the heads up.

kittiebug 04-23-2012 01:23 AM

I've never looked , But I will now .You can't buy anything for longarming around her you have to order it on
line.

Thanks :)

sguillot 04-23-2012 05:06 AM

I would think that as many long armers as there is getting to be that that would really be a good seller especially on sale and with the coupons because supplies are expensive and you have to order them on line unless there is a dealer near you.

DonnaQuilts 04-23-2012 05:53 AM

We're going to JoAnns today and surely will look for those things. Thanks for letting us know.

Hemlock Tea 04-23-2012 06:07 AM

I've seen them in two Joann's near me- the smaller store closest to me (and has the smallest selection of the three I go to) had a few items, and I think the larger "superstore" had more stuff. Haven't been to the third store in a while, but I'm sure they have it if the other 2 do.

gigiquilts 04-23-2012 06:21 AM

What part of Mo.is the new JoAnn's? I'm up north and travel 3 hours to JoAnn's. Maybe I can caught it in our travels.

Toucanlady 04-23-2012 07:27 AM

Where on So. Central Missouri is the new Joanns?

babyboomerquilter 04-23-2012 07:46 AM

I have not seen these items at my Jo Ans, but I will look next time I go back. Thank you for the tip!

lynnefaye 04-23-2012 08:52 AM

This store is not in south central, but there is a brand new Joann's in Belton, MO. It is south of the KC area, south of Grandview. Haven't been there yet as I live between two Joann's, I am in Overland Park, KS. The store south of me on Metcalf is not one I care to shop at but the one north of me in Shawnee is nice, clean and has a very helpful staff. Guess each Joann's reflects the manager, maybe some are franchises? There is another one farther north of me, near the Metro North Mall that is only 3 years or so old. Maybe this is the one you go to. Maybe the one who posted the south central store will let you know where it is.

IdahoSandy 04-23-2012 09:02 AM

They are getting the long arms down to a better price, so maybe this is why or several long armers have requested they stock these supplies. Just guessing here.

romanojg 04-23-2012 09:32 AM

It might depend on the area and if alot of people request it. I was just in Raleigh NC, which I always figured was a really large place but we have more fabric stores here. One there had closed down, the other one was more for interior design but fantastic prices. The reqular fabric section was really small especially in relation to the size of the rest of the store but the prices were great. I managed to find some things to spend my money on. I'll go back when I go in June for the sewing and quilt expo; very excited about and the classes they are offering. I guess there isn't a big call for LQS there; I know there was at least on more but it was a ways away from where we were.

shelrox 04-23-2012 02:29 PM

I live in Va but I am visiting here in Nj and the local store here had the long arm stuff and I was enjoying looking at it since in Va we dont have them in the store. I always have to check out the stores here to see what I am missing out on. Of course I also had to take a detour through LAncaster PA on the way up and stay over night in a motel to make sure i didnt miss anything over that way! LOL

pinkberrykay 04-23-2012 02:30 PM

I just noticed these as well. I am way way up in northern MI.
