This thread is for round 3 pics of your quilts...

MAILING ALERT!!!

For those of you mailing internationally, you need to be aware of a couple of things...

Customs forms must be filled out properly for the country you are mailing to.. we do not want to pay customs charges on any of these and are justified not to as we are not importing or exporting goods.. only trading services...

I usually mark mine "other"...not gift or merchandise, etc..
I usually mark the contents as "used craft fabric"
Mark the package to be returned to the sender in the case that it cannot be delivered.. we dont want tops lost in international mailing bin somewhere..

Also the cost of the item must be considered.. If it is over $50 value, customs charges will be assessed at the receiving end.. I would suggest you estimate a value less than $50. How can we justify this? Well again, we are not importing or exporting goods...just exchanging value for value..

Insurance is another matter.. I think that the US Post Office defaults to $100 insurance without extra fees.. I am going to suggest that we all abide by that and NOT add extra insurance.. gets us back into the customs issue.. how can we value it less than $50 and insure it for more than $100... I would like to have your input on this, but to minumize the impact of chgs, I would like us all to use $50 as the basis for the value of all tops, and take the chance of losing $50 in coverage in the case of one of them getting damaged or lost...

About tracking internationally...If you are mailing from the US and fill out your customs form, it gets scanned.. and a number is printed on your receipt.. You can use this number to ask for a trace if the package gets lost. I dont know what happens when mailing from the other countries. Will you girls please check with your post office?

Any other issues, please post them for the benefit of all...

And Im sorry that I didnt think to post this sooner.. before we had a problem..

The international girls might be able to help us out here as some of us are not used to this process. Try not to be judgemental when these things happen..but informative and helpful in finding a solution.

purplemem 01-18-2009 08:58 AM

Patience, Patti, Patience! LOL! I go crazy when I have something at the post office and have to wait. Haven't heard anything yet on my third center, or seen pictures of the completed second round.... :(

sandpat 01-18-2009 04:31 PM

I don't want to be patient!!!! And why did it have to happen on a LOOOOONNNNGGG weekend? I am itching to get it because I want to go to Jackson to the LQS asap so I have time to finish up both centers on time...ya'll know I'm a slow quilter!!

sandpat 01-20-2009 06:16 AM

Ladies..I really really really do want to keep this RR going until we finish it. Is everybody going to stay involved and keep up with their committment?

mary quite contrary 01-20-2009 06:49 AM

I am. I will do what needs to be done to keep it going.

purplemem 01-20-2009 06:53 AM

I am, even though I'm not in your group.

I want to go to Jackson! What is the name of the quilt shop and WHERE is it? Do you go on Saturdays?

sandpat 01-20-2009 07:49 AM

MJ..here is their web site..it has a map...NOTE: They haven't moved yet so go to the OLD location.

I usually don't go on Sat. because it is busier then. I am trying to get ready to go tomorrow or the next day at the latest. I need stuff to work on Elle's center.

If you go..have fun! Don't get too close to those Bernina machines or one will go home with you

purplemem 01-20-2009 08:03 AM

I love looking at all the work, but the quilt shop you just posted has the most reasonable classes ever 12 to 20 dollars...Even I could afford that...anyone close is indeed lucky :D

sandpat 01-22-2009 05:53 AM

Yes, Ruth. They are really good about arranging for any type of lesson you want or need..even private lessons. And of course, they are pretty reasonable with the price. Of course, they are also pretty good about just giving you some help and advice if you take a problem to them. Since I didn't even know how to thread a machine when I started this, they have been a HUGE help to me

Of course, they do know that every time I step inside I drop a load of $ on fabric and other stuff.

OK...after my trip to my LQS yesterday I was sooo excited that I couldn't wait any longer. I got busy on SazuBmidlands' s center today...I sure hope you like it Sazu!! If not...my DH really, really, really wants it. He said he'd love to see me finish up this one and just keep it.

I guess I'll be making one now very similar to this one. I told him it will really be fun to watch to see how it progresses.

quilter1962 01-24-2009 03:53 AM

Patti

Just been to the Post Office to collect Terri's RR - Well girls I have to say that the pictures on here are all beautiful, however they definatley don't do Terri's centre justice.
I am totally blown away with it - infact I am going to have to rethink what I had intended for the 3rd round.
Terri you have made a unique centre & Patti your round just makes the centre sing.

Well off to get the grey matter working .... wish me luck LOL

Tisha

tlrnhi 01-24-2009 03:57 AM

Oh, I love what Pat did with mine!

sandpat 01-24-2009 05:10 AM

   Ya'll are making me blush...I'm just soooo happy and relieved to hear that it made it to you Tisha. I know you will have fun working on it. I'm working my gray matter overtime on Elle's right now.....I think I have an idea..I just have to play with it now to test it out and make sure it will work.

tlrnhi 01-24-2009 05:34 AM

Isn't Elle's pretty? I was in awe when I got it.
If you need fabric (Asian), let me know. I have some other prints that might go with it.

sandpat 01-24-2009 05:37 AM

Thanks Terri. Yes, it is really pretty. I bought some fabric the other day (it is kind of hard to match, you can go sooo many directions with it!) Anyway...if my idea doesn't test out like I think it will...I may get back to you...I don't have anything asian in my stash...hey...I forgot my friend/neighbor Tsuya (from Japan) who is a quilter...hmmm.....

tlrnhi 01-24-2009 05:41 AM

Oh, I know! Lots of colors to pick and choose from. I'm still trying to find the original fabric I bought for it, but it's gone. I think gremlins got it. Or, maybe the geckos lol
Let me know if you need help

quilter1962 01-24-2009 09:25 AM

Patti

Good job you said about Elle's RR - I am off to my guild shop tomorrow will look for some Asian prints there.

Jan
I am like a little kid at Christmas, or Terri for that matter with her SS gift :) I am gonna be back here all the time waiting for the picture.

I can't decide what to do with Barbsbus center. I have few ideas should I do one side of the border and post the different options. What has been done in the past? Thanks!
