Whew! That actually might be too scary to know.....LOL

If I can't have a BIG bobbin or thread-fed, how about a beep when the bobbin is out?
|
My Brother tells me when the bobbin is low it will actually stop the machine, sometimes I wish I could shut it off because I know I can get just a few more seams out of a bobbin.

One that makes a cup of tea every hour? I keep forgetting to hydrate. Daft me!

I would love to know miles or even hours, that could help in determining price, easier than tracking time1 |

well you do...it is called the bobbin...all you have to know is how many yards of thread on the bobbin, then can convert yds into feet and feet into miles...
what machines really need is something that tells you how many HOURS you have on it...it needs, cleaned and timed according the hours of use! Especially the newer machines that you do not oil, but they have the lubricant in them. That goes away after sew many hours of use and only repairman can re-lube it properly! |

I just got the HQ Sweet Sixteen sit-down quilting machine. It has a count of the number of stitches that keeps track overall but also can have a "trip" odometer that tracks for a single project. Pretty cool! I'm also amazed at the bobbin. I am about 1/3 way through quilting a queen sized quilt and still on the first bobbin. I think I'm in love.

Considering the top thread has to go around the bobbin underneath, can you imagine how BIG the machine that took a cone in the bottom would be??? EYEROLL

My sewing machines count the stitches they have done ,
so you know how many hours you have been at the machine also helps when you want to sell a machine you can prove how much it has sewn. Cathy |

I'm not sure I want to know.. :)

There is an odometer on our machines - it's called a spool of thread. My spools are the 1200 yard spools. When that spool runs out I've sewn almost 2/3rds of a mile or more
|
Until such time as that million $ invention of the bobbin thread feeding from an external source couldn't we just have ALL machines have the same type of bobbin so I could go from my Bernina to my Pfaff to my Singer to my New Home using just one type of bobbin. I spend way too much time hunting for the "right" bobbin. At my age, I often forget which bobbin go to which machine.
|
we can keep track of hours. like when we need to tell someone how long we worked on pcing or hand quilting. and each spool of thread tells how much is there; that translates into yards/miles lol. details . . .bit of pain but doable.

I am with you, i hate winding bobbinseven if my machine does it for me. It seems I always run out of bobbin thread half through a seam!

Yes, that will be the day!! Seems odd it hasn't been done by now.

WOW, great point, why can't the bobbin just rewind itself when it starts to run out???

I agree about bobbins. I would have to buy more thread, so I would have a cone in each position, but it would be well worth it.
My guild buys LA thread in pairs of cones so that additional bobbins can be wound (on a winder) without unthreading the machine. Almost all of the thread I use comes in cones, which makes it easy to compute the thread milage in a given quilt, or my milage over a year's time. Add up the cones x cone size /5280 feet per mile. Aren't calculators great? One queen sized commissioned quilt used 3.5 miles of thread. |
Wouldn't it be great if there were a need for a calorie counter on our machines?

how about one that would prevent you from sewing wrong sides together. I did that last year during a mystery class. Bad machine, bad machine. lol.
|
Bigger bobbins would help, but I would really rather be able to put a cone in there.
|
The bobbin on a Bernina 830 holds twice as much as the small machines I love it . Then again I just love this machine.
|
lol oh ya
|
My Bernina has one and the service guy told me he could tell I had sewn quite bit. I think it tells you the number of stitches.
