i wonder if you had some long boards and wound on them as you iron. kinda like sharon shomburg does on her basting method.

you do it one ironing board width at a time.

Haha...SEND IT OUT to someone to Iron for you and then you will not have a headache when its all ironed. LOL

As has been said a wide ironing board is a great help. Past that I would suggest tackling it in thirds, with two sections folded together while you iron the third.

Good luck!

I put my big board ironing board right in front of the sofa or bed..that way what I iron lands neatly in accordian folds on the sofa/bed and does not end up full of wrinkles again!

Oh, Jacqueie, that is a good idea! Thanks.

I made a very side ironing table. Love it and it works perfectly for lots of things!

Well, I ended up putting towels on the kitchen table, butting the ironing board up against it and did it piece meal until I got it finished, loosely folding it as I went. As far as the backing, I folded it in half (it's wide!) pressed, turned, folded, pressed and turned again! It's not perfectly ironed, but it will work. Tomorrow, I get to clear the furniture out of the living room, tape the back down? or do I tape the front down? Can anybody tell me if it matters which is taped down? I'm using basting spray, but will probably add some pins here and there also.

This is the first, last and ONLY time I'm making a king sized quilt!

I have 2 card tables that I put in front of my ironing board, for when I have ironed my king sheets. Works well.

After reading through this, it really got me thinking! Seven years ago, my grandmother gave me a wedding gift quilt in a king size...all hand embroidered and quilted all by herself, at 80. Wow, what a quilting warrior! Actually, she quit smoking and did 5 of those quilt tops in less than a year and had them all hand quilted the next year. I can only dream of being that good! I will have to get them out and take some pics!!
