I have a niece who loved Strawberry Shortcake when she was little. She has red hair herself so they were like twins. She is expecting her first and I was bound and determined to make her a Strawberry Shortcake quilt. Last week she announced they are having a baby boy. Well what to do with Strawberry Shortcake now? Maybe its just as well, I don't hate the quilt..but there is just no "pop". Now I can try some other fabrics.. and MAYBE she will have little girl next time

This is so cute!

Very sweet quilt and a nice pattern too!

Well now you have a reason for another quilt! I bought the October 2014 American Patchwork & Quilting for the free pattern included with it is called Color me Happy. Adorable crayons made in colors and gender nuetral.

That is a cute quilt, for sure. But certainly with the news that a boy is coming, and not a girl, it's time to come up with a whole new theme, huh? LOL
|
It's a wonderful quilt that a momma can share with her little girl, but ........
I do hope you find something just as inspirational for a baby boy. |
Cute story and a good reason to make yet another quilt!
But, maybe the reason you don't feel this one has "pop" is because the beige and the pink are the same value, color-wise, and blend into each other too much. Perhaps a medium green would have been good? Can't wait to see your "boy" quilt! Jan in VA |
Frankly, that's why I waited with friends of ours! She was absolutely into SS....me not so much. Also, I find 'boy' quilts difficult...there just don't seem to be 'boy friendly' fabrics - especially those that are non-directional.
Sounds to me like a perfect opportunity to make another quilt! |
It's so cute! Why not give it to your niece for a lap quilt for her?? I also have a redhead adult daughter. We kept ll the strawberry shortcake toys that she had..alas, no children for her to give them to. She's still not ready to give them away tho!!
|
Thanks guys.. Jan in VA the funny part is that the fabric is green. The picture doesn't show it very well. Its a very pale green and it matched perfectly the background of the Strawberry Shortcake fabric. But I think you are correct a deeper green would have been better. Something that would have matched the leaves and not the background. Oh well live and learn

Good luck with making the boy quilt as cute as you did with the Shortcake quilt. I would put it away. She may have a girl the next time.

It is very cute. I bet in time you will find a little girl to love it.

Your quilt is adorable! I agree with Jingle, you will find a little girl to love it.

It's cute. Save it for the next little girl
|
Super cute! I agree - save it for a (hopefully) future baby girl.
I think the quilt looks perfect for a little girl (on my computer the 2nd fabric reads as a light green that matches the green in the border print), but one thing I've done when I wanted to add a little bit more is some thread painting. You could go over the blendable fabrics with a darker green or variegated red thread. |
It's not a bad thing to have a quilt in the wings ready for the next little girl. It is a sweet one.
|
I think that it is Cute! Looks good to me! Maybe you could have bound it in pink to make it pop! I think the "green" and pink look together. they seem like different values. Moral to this story is that you should not always choose colors that match. You could save this quit or donate it to church/school for raffle, try to sell it here on the board or just donate it to a needy child. Save it? you can always make another one for her next baby!

Sell it to me :-) I am having 3 new girls being born in the next 5 month. No one in my family has boys!!! go figure that out. PM me with $$ amount :-)

Too bad there isn't a Strawberry Shortcake counterpart for a boy, like Raggedy Andy. My DD loved Strawberry Shortcake, and with the help of a friend, she redesigned the Raggedy Ann pattern with the big hat, hair, etc. with Strawberry Shortcake fabric for her dress. I do like your quilt though, as I think it's cute.

I think this is really a cute quilt! Some little girl is going to love it!!!
|
It may not make your heart sing, but this would sure make my granddaughter's eyes sparkle!
|
Save it. Maybe she'll have a girl next.

Meyert, I love your story, and who knows, your niece may have a girl the next time? My niece was expecting her first child. Wanting to be prepared, I made two quilts with this cute monkey print. One had a pink background and the other had a blue background. She had a cute little girl so the pink one was mailed to her. I put aside the blue one thinking it would go to a baby boy someday. Well, my niece had a baby boy two years later! What a delightful and happy coincidence!

Wow! Your avatar is with Jenny. Oh yes, love your quilt too.
|
From here it looks like you have a couple great choices. 1. Keep it for a grand baby girl, and hope you get one, or 2. Donate it to a local crisis pregnancy center, and let a woman who needs it, wrap it around her baby girl and bless the quilter who loved others enough to make it? Win-win.
