Its done.. now what?
I have a niece who loved Strawberry Shortcake when she was little. She has red hair herself so they were like twins. She is expecting her first and I was bound and determined to make her a Strawberry Shortcake quilt. Last week she announced they are having a baby boy. Well what to do with Strawberry Shortcake now? Maybe its just as well, I don't hate the quilt..but there is just no "pop". Now I can try some other fabrics.. and MAYBE she will have little girl next time

Cute story and a good reason to make yet another quilt!
But, maybe the reason you don't feel this one has "pop" is because the beige and the pink are the same value, color-wise, and blend into each other too much. Perhaps a medium green would have been good?
Can't wait to see your "boy" quilt!

Frankly, that's why I waited with friends of ours! She was absolutely into SS....me not so much. Also, I find 'boy' quilts difficult...there just don't seem to be 'boy friendly' fabrics - especially those that are non-directional.
Sounds to me like a perfect opportunity to make another quilt!

It's so cute! Why not give it to your niece for a lap quilt for her?? I also have a redhead adult daughter. We kept ll the strawberry shortcake toys that she had..alas, no children for her to give them to. She's still not ready to give them away tho!!

Thanks guys.. Jan in VA the funny part is that the fabric is green. The picture doesn't show it very well. Its a very pale green and it matched perfectly the background of the Strawberry Shortcake fabric. But I think you are correct a deeper green would have been better. Something that would have matched the leaves and not the background. Oh well live and learn
