I am at a stand still right now trying to decide what to do next.Hmmmmmmmmm!!
Sorry to say, I don't think it gets better. I have 3 or 4 quilts in the works right now, and I keep thinking of other things I need to make (a purse, or whatever), and they just keep piling up. If somebody comes up with a cure, (other than retirement, so I have more time to sew) please let me know!
lol,I have at least 15 tops to be quilted and keep starting more.when I get in quilting mode I just grab from my pile.after a few are done I start more.
By having multiple projects going all at once, you don't get bored! :)
I have so many to do that Ive forgotten most of them and run into them every now and then and think, oh yeh, I remember I wanted to make that, why?
I have about 5 or 6 projects going all the time and you just gave me another idea, I was given a box full of old jeans and I love your idea of the pockets, going to steal your idea hope you don't mind

We are all the same.
I am always anxious to see how a new project will look. Gotta get the desire to see how they look when finished.
Just a part of the "disease"..relax and enjoy!
I agree with all the comments! My DD gets these neat Avon large zipper bags; I've been using them to store my UFOs. I believe these UFOs keep us young; who can die with so much to sew?
I made myself a "rule" "no more than 3 projects at a time" -- then I changed it to " no more than 3 of any one kind" -- then I just gave up and said no more than I can pack away in a large box for "when I have time and nothing to do"
Why do I think I am fooling myself ?? -- but it's a lot of fun Mim |
Yes dear, I'm afraid it's part of the addiction. Of course, the up-side is that you'll always have something to do...
One lady said she couldn't die..to many projects to finish. So.... LOL
Join the club. I have several unfinished projects. I love piecing the quilt top but don't like the actual quilting. I don't have a machine to do machine quilting and hand quilting takes so, so long, that I like to move on to the next project. I have made several rag quilts because I can get them done in a weekend.
Do whatever you enjoy and you will learn as you go. |
It just gets worse. I'm already thinking about Christmas. I have enough 8 1/2 inch squares cut out for 7 jean quilts. That is 560 squares. I also make tote bags out of them and pocket purses with the pockets. I take all the thread out of them and sew them with bright pink, red and green. I use the side seems from the jeans for the strap on the purse. Also I sew cute buttons on the front. The kids love them. When I get my film to the store I will put pictures on here. I still have a 35mm
Just remember making quilts is for fun! Spread the fun around! I tried to always finish my quilts, but now I just keep piecing new tops. I figure that I will use them someday, and there they will be!
Oh, I like your jean pocket wall hanging idea! As for one project at a time, that never seems to work for me, lol. I wouldn't worry about it too much, goes with the territory it seems. Besides, when you want something finished, or need it for a gift or something, then you will have the desire to finish it! That, works for me!....
Please share of pic of your jean pocket project when you can, would love to see it! |
I forgot I also put a piece of the jeans on the back of the pocket and frey it.
Wait until you have so many UFO's you will have lots to choose from to finish. Welcome to the quilting addiction !!!
can't wait to see a picture might give me more of idea on what to do, I love new ideas thanks
always. how to stop?
I have bags hanging on nails in my sewing room, a box with tops already made just waiting to be quilted, some in bags waiting to be finished putting together. *sigh*
Oh honey it gets worse! DH could probably shoot me for the WIPS I have here!
I love that idea! how creative. i will steal it from you and make one too. I love having more than one project going at a time. then i never get bored. I work with whatever I feel like working with that day. Also it is great to finish more than one project at a time.
It just means you have an active creative streak in you. Sometimes I get about half way through a project and I get sidetracked by these creative juices and I'm off and running on another project. I always get them finished tho. I don't think it goes away, just live with it and enjoy your quilting.
It does get worse. Especially when you find a beautiful new piece or fabric or glance through a quilt magazine & find a quilt pattern that is to die for.
here's the link to the pocket wall hanging that some of you were waiting for

It has all been said justly; in essence, it just does not get any better. Relax and enjoy!
Aw, it's okay. We are kindred spirits. How would you keep inspiration if you could not keep finding new ideas? See, it's all good. I guess the trick is to finally finish something!
To me, little projects like that don't really count, lol. I only count quilts as new projects. Those little things are just spur of the moment ideas that need to be acted on. Usually tho, I finish them within a day or two of when I start them so they don't become WIPs.
consider it a project finishing tool! When its done pls post a pic - it sounds like a great idea to keep things under control, sharet
OH???? You are supposed to finish these projects..... now I get it

I posted the link already, but I guess I can post pictures here too!
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-140941-1.htm#3807480 there's the link for more info about it, but now for pics!! hanging on the back of my wardrobe above my sewing area the scissor loop, also not straight. more pockets, can you tell I couldn't throw out my favorite jeans?? green felt for the back which also doubles as a mini design wall and the loops |
I have 2 design walls to put my projects on - one has the project that I currently am working on, and will be completing the other has the misc. things I've started, and will complete next(?) but just had to start to see what one, or 2 blocks will look like.
I think it gets worse. The more patterns I see the more fabric I buy. I thought I would never start one project until the current one is done - at least I started that way. Went to Joann's today and now I have 3 projects. Didn't get a chance to do any quilting the last 5 days - guess I needed a fix!
Our creativity runs way faster than our fingers.
Don't feel bad. You aren't alone. My daughter gave me a wall hanging that says. "Queen of unfinished projects"
I deal with it by starting another project!!
I like having a few things going at once- at a minimum, something that's being quilted, something that's being pieced, something in the planning stages... I like to have different things to work on if I get tired of working on one project. I tend to do piecing in the daytime, and quilting in the evening when I'm just hanging out with my husband. I suppose some people probably like to have something easy to take along, something for this, something for that. I suppose as long as things are getting finished it doesn't matter too much, right? : )
