Have one star down...three more cut and ready to be sewn. Wish the board had a like button. So many of you are making great progress and have some lovely pieces.

my goal was to post my UFO's and pictures of my QOV's and baby quilt

pollyjvan9 01-20-2013 11:50 AM

Just taking a lunch break. I have been hand stitching binding on two wall hangings. Cutting out valentines for some small wall hangings for family members, also doing some laundry (sigh) eventually you have to do a load or two.

Okay, here is what I have done so far. Would have gotten more done if I hadn't fallen asleep when I layed down to rest my arthritic. back. The Quilt For Kids quilt.Table runner for horse fundraiser.

Here is a paper template on top of the wall hanging. I wanted to do some simple quilting in the border just to pull it all together. I think this will work fine without taking away from the design. I used some little round cups from the kitchen to get the rounded shapes.

Both side borders quilted and sewn on, just doing the hand stitching QAYG. on the back, then another line of hand quilting on top. May not get the end borders on today..

I agree, a like button would be great!!

tatavs01,
So sorry about your arm - hope it heals very quickly - take care!

Wishing I was sewing something fun. I am so short, everything I buy has to be hemmed. Will be working on some jeans and also some long sleeve shirts. I quilted all last week. Put the last blocks on a quilt top that I have been working on off and on for over a year. It is a quilt by Marti Michel and has the Wild rose Fabric by Moda in it. I used her templates. Never, never, never again. I hated them.

Just taking a break from cleaning up my studio, and came upon your day "project". I've nearly struck desktop on my desk, and will dedicate my evening to Block number 11 of Elegant Garden by Laundry Basket Quilts (Edyta Sitar). Have 15 blocks done. If I can finish this one today, I'll be happy. On Thursday, leaving for a Retreat with 8 friends. Of course, we are going to northern Indiana, and the forecast is for freezing rain. Hope it holds off until we are installed at the Inn at Windmere in Auburn. Hope you all have a great day!

TerrimB 01-20-2013 01:11 PM

I'm reading about quilts and looking at pictures... does that count? my 4yr old twins have taken over the living room there are houses and little people everywhere...and that's where my hand quilting project is. I mostly work on it in my lap in the evening watching tv... after they've gone to bed. ;)

nycquilter 01-20-2013 01:14 PM

checking in again. I finished quilting the quilt, squared it up, attached the binding that was waiting, and started sewing the binding down. I stopped because I didn't like how I'd pinned it and wanted to re-pin. I finished that part too. Then, DH put the game on pause and we came down and prepped dinner. I will head back up to finish sewing the binding. Not sure if I'll be able to turn and sew it down by the end of the day.

This will be my last accomplishment of the day. Dinner is in the crockpot, and almost time to feed the dogs. This is the first block of my Lattice quilt, made with all batiks:

irishrose 01-20-2013 02:26 PM

I just walked the dogs and now can't quilt for a few minutes. It's 12 degrees out and one of gloves got wet so I have a very cold hand. Ouchy!

I made quite a few of the sashing strips with flying geese on each end and discovered I need 16 more. I'll work on those as soon as I thaw out. I can't post a picture. My new printer has no SD card port and I'm not sure where the camera cords are.

huntannette 01-20-2013 02:28 PM

welll that`s that....wasn`t feeling well..fell asleep in my chair, then changed to my bed and slept all afternoon....but i will finish sewing my row this evening......

Well, I did get some pieces cut out, but not as many as I would have liked. Of course, when you start one thing something else gets in your way. Maybe its just me that it happens . Anyway its been a fun day, love all the work everybody has accomplised so far. Keep up the good work. When can we have another VQD?

Trying out some fabrics that I'm considering for a wedding quilt. The couple wants black, white, champagne. Champagne? I got some satin that seems like champagne to me. I'm making a Bridal Path block; got the pieces cut out while baking cookies. Now to begin sewing.

Jan in VA 01-20-2013 02:38 PM

I SO wanted to participate today, needed to get some sewing done. But I woke this morning with the worst arthritis flare I've had in a while, hurt so bad I was considering taking the heavy pain drugs. I hate to resort to those because they make me so woggy, so I got back in bed with the electric blanket and slept another 4 hours. it's now 5:30 pm and I've just had some soup and signed on to check on all of you.

Everyone is doing so well! Keep up the good work, seeing all the photos is very inspiring.:)

Seems that is has been a very good day for many of you. As for me, this is the way the day has gone so far: Church at 10; back home with two visitors, my good friend who quilts and my sister. I showed them the last three projects that I had finished; we looked at 50th anniversary pictures. When they left, went grocery shopping for staples like milk and bread, and of course DH's Pepsi. While at the grocery store, picked up lunch at the deli. Put away groceries and had lunch. Rested for a while to get rid of the headache. Then put jambalaya cooking in the rice cooker for supper. It's almost 5 o'clock and I haven't been to the sewing machine yet. Well, as Alexander would say, "Some days are like that; yes, they are." It's good to see that some have been so productive. The day isn't over yet ....so there's hope.

coastienest 01-20-2013 02:45 PM

OK so today is our 35th wedding anniversary. My husband has been really sick for days so our plans have all changed. Daughter and her boyfriend are making us dinner. As soon as I am done enjoying that and then fact that I will not need to clean up, I am heading to my sewing room to start a memory quilt. My friend is celebrating her 60th bday and I thought it would be a great surprise. Since I never made one before, tonight will involve a lot of research. Anyone have any hints for copying pictures, please chime in. I am at a loss. Enjoy what remains of your day everyone. Hope you all accomplished what you set out to do. Great thread!!!!!

leakus 01-20-2013 02:49 PM

Let me see... Yesterday I read the announcement for the sewing and decided to join. Well, woke up, breakfast and to church we went- my DS and I. DS is 8 yrs old, he made me promise him that I was going to take him to a Skate Park so right after church at 12:30 we went. I couldn't take him out of there until 2:30 pm (EST) and came back home to quilt. Finally! I forgot to post my goals but today I needed to sew two blocks for a Quilt for Quilters I signed in. It is a controlled scrappy in lilac pieced in the middle and applique on the boarders. So far I have cut the 2 1/2 squares, at least for the sample and sew some 3 patches together. I will post a picture if I am able to sew at least 2 blocks.
It is 5:40 here in Florida so I don't have much more hours to sew. It is great to know you are out there sewing with me!

Good evening everyone, what a good day it has been watching all the progress going on. What a splendid show.

Glad to share the day with the world!
peace

Mitch's mom 01-20-2013 02:55 PM

You all motivated me to finish cutting out the remainder of the pieces I need for a quilt for my BIL. The fabric quantity was listed wrong in the pattern so I had to order another yard and a half. I ordered the wrong shade - figures! I reordered and waited. And waited. Finally got my fabric Wednesday. It has been since the Wednesday before New Years that I have been trying to get the right fabric. Anyhoo, I am well on my way to finishing the 6 remaining blocks I need.

labeelady 01-20-2013 03:00 PM

Got two rows of 5 blocks each sewn to sashing strip, and am having to rip out one seam because my vertical sashings don't line up! Arrgh!

mtngrl 01-20-2013 03:02 PM

Done for the day on that project, I might do a bit of applique on a different quilt later. All ready for the end borders. This was fun and motivating. Love all of your projects, I'm inspired to try quite a few that I saw. Thanks!!

Furball 01-20-2013 03:04 PM

This was my first VQD and it's amazing to see what everyone is accomplishing.

I stopped a bit ago because DH made roast chicken with all the fixings for our Sunday dinner. Didn't think it would be cool to ask him to delay so I could finish my goal for the day.

I did complete FMQ of a Linus quilt and got the binding partially finished. This was my first time trying fusible thread in the bobbin when attaching the binding to eliminate pinning or clamping and I'm happy with the results.

So much progress. These VQDs are great. I would not have quilted so much, if not for the encouragement of knowing everyone else was out there. I finished putting together the rows for Dancing with the Stars, and the border fabric is in the dryer.

My other project - hundreds of triangles - is almost a top. I need to start dinner, but I think afterwards I'll be able to go up and finish that top too.

Quilter7x 01-20-2013 03:47 PM

Wow Krista, what a gorgeous quilt top! So colorful and I love the two tone sashings in different colors.

Still working on my shamrock wall hangings.

Sierra 01-20-2013 03:50 PM

I just cut out 70 5x5" squares for a quilt that will have no sashing because I want it to look like a composit of of microscopic photograghs. About 20 minutes ago I went brain dead and had to quit.

Well I got all the strip sets sewed together that I needed to do for the middle of my current project, a OBW. This is my first time working with all triangles and it took a while, lots of pinning and slow sewing. All that is left to do today is pressing for a few projects.

labeelady 01-20-2013 04:33 PM

The untidy seam has now been resewn and looks much better, so I'm calling it quits for the day. Time to start looking for something to eat (we have a few leftovers).

It was really interesting to see everyone's projects. Some were fabulous and look really complicated! I hope I can reach that level of expertise!

Julie in NM 01-20-2013 04:38 PM

Finished quilting the second baby quilt and not getting ready to sew binding down on both of them. Then wash/dry and ready to give away. Co-worker m/b first time grandmother of twins. They don't know for sure so just decided to make two quilts...just in case.
