Sewing is going very well here. I'm not hurrying, but it's still going pretty fast :D. It's so wonderful after making so many blocks to finally see a pattern emerging as I am attaching rows together.

I just finished machine quilting the border's on my son's quilt.I have to decide on a binding but first I have the last show of Grease to deal with about costumes and then we have to break down the costumes. I don't think it will be bound tonight but it will be by the end of the week before he goes back to school.

Have a great day everyone.

I can't believe it's 11:30! I did sleep WAY in...but I did get something trivial done already: squaring up some bat-scraps so when I need them, they'll be ready to sew together.

Yesterday I finally finished DS's quilt (I know it doesn't REALLY count for VQD, and UFO day was FRIDAY, but I couldn't make to Friday's session, so I'm just gonna post it here...besides, I think I finished the top on our last VQD). I'm happy with the way it came out even though there are some binding wonks and still only a couple spots on the Log quilting lines that didn't get done.

Next is finishing the quilting on the chicken quilt http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...k-t212093.html
I scrapped the idea of chicken-wire pattern, and am doing a simple cross hatch...OMG so EASY!!!! WAY easier than the log cabin! Oh, and painter's tape is HORRIBLE...well, maybe it was because I laid out 1/2 of the quilt lines from the center to one corner. It all started coming off while I was quilting. So I had to wing it and hope for (semi) straight lines against the one I WAS able to get done. Ripped all the tape off (waste of 1/2 a roll of tape! :()
Ok, I'm off. See you in a couple hours!

How hard is it just to arrange thirty five 4 inch squares ?
I cut them all out,a arranged them and showed my daughter who now thinks its too brown......totally agree with her but then I told her that when she chose the fabric......ah we'll back to the cutting board !

I am going to start quilting my Yellow Brick Road for my mother. She is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. The quilt is pastels with a pink fleece backing. It will be nice and soft for her. She doesn't know any of us anymore, but she enjoys cuddling under warm quilts and afghans.

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

I got an early start on this as I woke up sick yesterday and had to cancel all my plans. Got the blocks cut and pieced then and put them together this morning. Layer and baste left for today - maybe even start the quilting. It was time for a blue quilt - though I know it should be green today!

QultingaddictUK 03-17-2013 07:55 AM

I am joining in, I have nearly finished layering my Brother's birthday quilt and hopefully will start the FMQ today, I only have 9 days to finish and get it posted to arrive in time, fingers crossed.

retiredteacher09 03-17-2013 08:06 AM

I just got back from church and I am ready to get started. I did talk with a quilter friend after church and we shared lots of ideas.

Goals:

1. Cut sewn strips and assemble my first rail fence quilt top probably baby quilt size. I'm not sure how many squares I will have because strips were donated so I may need to get creative and add more squares of other colors.

2. Cut and sew clue 2 of Judy!s Mystery Train table runner.

3. Check my back up machine to see if it is working properly and set up a 1/4 inch strip on it. it!s time for the yearly maintenance on my good machine.

4. Sandwich and finish one charity baby quilt.

5. Iron, cut, sort stash for 'movement' breaks. Lol

Of course, I will be checking back here often too.

Connie

How's everyone doing? I got a Mustang embroidered and a Classic Car license plate, did a pickup truck yesterday. These things take so much time, just choosing the right colors is challenging....good thing I have a large thread stash.

I want to finish this baby "charm" quilt for a friend at work who just had her baby 3 weeks early. Glad I'm almost done with it. I think I will just free motion a meandering pattern (if you can call meandering a pattern).

Pat625 03-17-2013 08:45 AM

Checking in...Still plodding away at the hand quilting I worked on until 4 am this morning....Had to stop for a while and hang curtains in Dining Room...Would love to get this quilting done today...It's a 6X7 ft lap quilt for my DD, done in gingham, her favorite fabrics.

Started quilting! Working on my purple cat quilt. I had to run the batting through the dryer so that it would lay flat and it got really fluffy. Here's the quilt top before quilting

Making slow progress on machine quilting the baby quilt. Seems like there is always someone interrupting but I will keep plodding along.

This is not as easy as it looks to keep every thing in order and having cut the bits to the right size. What do you think?

carolaug 03-17-2013 09:09 AM

I just finished the binding on my king quilt...I am wiped...but after I shower and drink my coffee I will work on my granny squares...the binding took all morning....so glad its done!

seamstome 03-17-2013 09:09 AM

Checking in. Not doing as well as I thought still working on basket. Did not like first version. Did not get to work yesterday life got in the way. Moving over to tote to break up frustration.

carolaug 03-17-2013 09:10 AM

I have yet to make it into my sewing studio, but when I do I have a mountain of pressing to get done, and a quilt to put on my frame, and if those get boring I can cut sashings and corner stones, or sew HSTs until I'm sick of them. So many options! :-) Or I could work on my pinwheels crib quilt. Though I think I need a little flannel for that...I haven't decided.

SouthPStitches 03-17-2013 09:23 AM

Got up early this a.m. to make and bake two loaves of Irish soda bread. A little slice of heaven still warm with butter on. While the loaves were baking, I was hand quilting a table runner. Later I went up to the sewing room and decided on final block placement for a lap quilt. Will start sewing rows together this afternoon. Also need to simmering the corned beef in an hour or so. More hand quilting and probably considerable burping from my rich meal will be going on tonight.

So many inspiring quilts to look at this fine morning. I didn't think I would be in the mood this morning - last night woke up to the worst headache and even had to run to the bathroom and empty my stomach. Ran a hot shower - drank a hot cup of peppermint tea - finally got back to sleep and this morning - I am feeling right as rain. That being said - all your projects have inspired one of my own. My husband's 54th birthday is one week - I have a quilt top I made him when I first started quilting 3 yrs ago - I think I am going to load it on my Avante and quilt it as a surprise for his birthday. Will post pics later. Thanks for all the inspiration this morning.

Joining you now. I'm making a large block DNP today.

Luv Quilts and Cats 03-17-2013 09:44 AM

I'm reading this thread, does that count??? I am hoping to sew a border on a top today.

kristakz 03-17-2013 09:48 AM

It's almost 2:00 here, and I have actually finished two rows of quilting on Dancing with the Stars (my goal was 1, with a stretch goal of 2 by the end of the day). Taking a break now, to figure out my cut list for my next quilt. But after this much progress, I'm revising my wish list to *finishing* the quilting on this beast. If I can do that, I can take it to Show and Tell at guild on Wednesday - that should keep me motivated.

cannyquilter 03-17-2013 09:56 AM

Hopetoquilt, I think I would choose a solid colour from within the quilt I think a white or black border may be too much. I am so pleased you posted this today as I just found a tutorial for this quilt and thought I would like to make it. Yours has turned out really nice.

I allowed my quilting to be hijacked a little and made a grocery bag holder and also recovered a double foam cushion for my DD's sofa.

Got started on quilting about 2pm and have managed to do lots, just need to mark out and straight line quilt the borders and then the bit I am really looking forward to (not) fmq around 96 leaves and 48 flowers. I enjoy doing the binding so that will be my reward for all that fmq. Time now is 5.50 pm, so having a cup of coffee and will then do the borders, that might be it for today as my DD is coming around later and I am going to show her how to use the rotary cutter so she can begin to make her first quilt - she is a total none sewist not even how to sew on a button - so I am really thrilled that she wants to join me in my hobby. Wish us luck.

Well I've finished the top except for some hand sewing. Going to look for batting and a backing. Photo is of finished top.

ranger 03-17-2013 10:05 AM

Well, I won't get the baby quilt finished today. My friend just called and wants us to go out for an evening meal with them. We will probably end up at their place after the meal. Hopefully I will be able to continue the quilting tomorrow.

Best of luck with all your quilting endeavors. Have a great evening.

cannyquilter 03-17-2013 10:08 AM

Dottymo you have made a lovely job of that quilt it is really cute.

i like yours better. It was a pain to keep everything in the right order. I don't have a design wall either. Just used the floor. I believe I will go to Joanne's and see if I can find one of the batiks to use as a border. A ton of work for such a small quilt.

Slowing down as my hands are cramping..May stop hand quilting and work on scrap organization, or making curtains for my room from the sheet I got at the thrift store yesterday...First a break to catch my breath!!

I got the pieces cut from my strips. I have been sewing other strips and organizing scraps in between so I won't get much done today on my list. Oh, well, at least I am making some progress. These strips were donated so I just sewed them together without resizing so its definitely not perfect but it will be loved by someone.

i sure love my design wall. My next step will be to sew the squares together.

Pretty Red/White/Blue Railfence, rt09!

I finished the quilting on the chicken quilt. Notes to other newbies out there:
 • Make sure you COMEPLETELY cut the selvedge off! I've got this ever-so-faint white line down the middle where I had to make the big backing piece.
 • Don't lose focus! My line went wonky at one point, and I matched the stitch-line to the wrong "crossed-hatch" on the other end, making me 1 stitch-width off somewhere in the lower right quadrant. Fortunately, it was only one width, and I was able to correct it, but now I have a "curve in the road" down there just off camera. Not a huge biggie, but something for me to remember next time.
Otherwise, I'm pleased with the way it came out. Off to binding!

Hopetoquilt, If you haven't decided yet, I vote for a narrow back border (1" finished) then a piano key with the colors in the quilt.

I am thinking of y'all. I will FMQ two Spicy Spirals and cut out my mystery table runner, but that's about it between church twice and dog walking.

Nice pics everyone. I am having such a bad time with my arthritis of the spine today, that I am having to keep laying down to take the pressure off it. Consequently, I didn't get as much done as I wanted. I got one double slice layer cake all assembled, and started on the other, but am not going to finish it today. Will work on embroideries during the week. I am done for the day.

J.M. 03-17-2013 12:42 PM

I managed to piece together 1/3 of my top today, and the remaining rows are sown together in sets of 2. I'll continue to work on this tomorrow and Tuesday evening, and then it will be ready to work on the borders! *cheers*

Aylahopper 03-17-2013 12:48 PM

So I'm quilting today too! Yesterday was too much thinking for me. I had 3 choices and then my DS says "don't forget my t-shirt quilt!" Well he has some work to do if he wants that! So my choices were Jelly Roll Race (by myself), a Snowball Charm wall hang or my next big one which is Brioche & Baguette.

Started the snowball! Just taking a break from pinning to do some reading on the boards!

Happy sewing to all :)
