I posted the other day that my DH came up and helped out while I was piecing a top. Yesterday I wanted to go to Hancocks and the new JoAnns to take advatage of their 50% off sale for president's day. I asked DH if he wanted to go with me and he said yes. I'm starting a quilt for him so we picked out some beautiful stuff. He kept filling up the cart!!!!! I'd better leave him at home next time.

The quilt we are making is an underwater scene with corals, grasses, tropical fish, sea turtles and a big shark looming behind the grasses and a scuba diver going for a big shark tooth on the sandy bottom. DH is a diver and collects sharks teeth.

He was up until late drawing the shark and corals for me to use as patterns.

I love that man, the time we're spending together on this project is so special.

That is so wonderful!

Justquilting 02-22-2011 09:41 AM

That's great!
Mine is very supportive too!!

np3 02-22-2011 09:42 AM

This is great. DH helps me plan too. We have two computers in the office/sewing room and he gets on one of them and spends time in there when I am sewing.

miss_ticky2 02-22-2011 09:45 AM

Do you have a spare machine? Hope so...you'll go in there one day to find him taking over your's...lol

quiltinggrandmaca 02-22-2011 09:46 AM

Enjoy every minute of it.

If you can't beat them, join em!!

dakotamaid 02-22-2011 09:47 AM

Mine is supportive, he doesn't sew but has diffident ideas on color and design. Gotta love him! :)

PS: I'm trying really hard to understand football, isn't easy!

Great you all are doing this together. Sound like my dh and me.

trif 02-22-2011 09:57 AM

I love it! You have created another quilt addict! Enjoy making this quilt together, make a quilt label representing both of you.

Raggiemom 02-22-2011 10:00 AM

That is great this is a joint project. Enjoy.

Shirleyg 02-22-2011 10:00 AM

I think it's really great for a husband to be interested like that. My now departed husband was like that also and I miss him very much for the great things he did for me and with me.

I would say continue to take him! Let him keep filling up your cart. think of all the stash you will have once his quilt is finished. And how could he complain since he picked them out. (don't look a gift horse in the mouth.) ;)

cmw0829 02-22-2011 10:11 AM

That's great - mine likes to "help" by looking at sewing machines and tools/notions on the internet and printing them out and saying "would this help?"

Guess I shouldn't complain. :-D

Jo M 02-22-2011 10:13 AM

Can't wait to see the final product that you two have collaborated on.

EagarBeez 02-22-2011 10:14 AM

That's wonderful for DH to give such support

quiltmaker 02-22-2011 10:26 AM

How exciting for each of you...

Tropical 02-22-2011 10:31 AM

Love this story!

Hope2quilt 02-22-2011 10:39 AM

how cool! What a great DH!!

Dandish 02-22-2011 10:43 AM

Where'd you buy that can of worms? I want to get one!

Great to hear you are both enjoying the project.

QuiltingGrannie 02-22-2011 10:45 AM

How awesome!

BluegrassGurl 02-22-2011 10:46 AM

ahhhh... bless your heart. That is wonderful!

deema 02-22-2011 10:50 AM

I wouldn't call that a can of worms. I think its fantastic that he is so interested. My husband is accepting, and sometimes obliging, but rarely helpful or interested. I'm not complaining, because like I said - he's accepting, and doesn't complain, but I think it would be really nice to work on something with him...that will certainly make some wonderful memories for you two...lasting ones that you will be reminded of every time you look at the quilt the two of you worked on together. :D Enjoy it. (and the extra stash  )

SuzyQ 02-22-2011 10:51 AM

That's awesome! I wish mine would "keep filling up the cart" with fabric LOL. Bless my DH's heart though ... he doesn't ask any questions about where stuff comes from which is good coz he wouldn't really like the answer <grin>.

That describes us too-he never says a word about what I spend, but also has no interest. In the beginning of my quilting, I was also learning the use of the computer, and living overseas, I wanted to subscribe to various free newsletters, etc, to help me learn. He had no patience and usually made me feel like I was really burdening him with my questions and needing help. Not so much in words, but in attitude. I finally got the nerve and blasted him for being so selfish and not allowing me to enjoy my new passion without feeling guilty for needing his help. And his attitude of my interests not being important enough and frivolous was really insulting and hurtful. He apoligised, not realizing how I felt, and has never made me feel like that again. However, he still has no interest. Those of you who have a partner who not only supports you, but also gets involved with you are so lucky! We are retired now, and it would be lovely to get involved together.

quilting cat 02-22-2011 11:02 AM

Worms are great for catching fish -- good thing you opened that can!!

Yay!!

wytetygeress 02-22-2011 11:09 AM

mine isn't quite that bad. We went today and looked at a quilt frame and machine that the LQS was selling for 3000..(floor model) and when we left he looked at me and said " i think we can get something better" ie meaning more expensive..I have tried in the past to keep the cost down on things but he finds something does a ton of research and if he believes it a good thing that's what he gets..Case in point, I started quilting on a White quilt star 1750 (?) that we bought from goodwill for 35 bucks. After a few months i said that i would like a new machine without some many little quirks..We started looking at a Viking sapphire 855 ( about a grand) After months of researching and testing driving all the different machines I ended up with a Viking Designer SE LE...about a 3000 dollar different then what i began with. I learned a long time ago if i can't beat him..join him, and to be grateful that i am spoiled rotten =) Enjoy your new quilting partner. I know i do, even if he doesn't actually quilt with me =)

littlehud 02-22-2011 11:17 AM

That is so cool. It's great when the ones we love support our work.

emerald46 02-22-2011 11:38 AM

This will be a very special quilt!

M.I.Late 02-22-2011 11:45 AM

How lucky are you? That's very cool!

sueisallaboutquilts 02-22-2011 07:48 PM

How awesome making the quilt together!!!!!!!! :D:D

OneMoreQuilt 02-22-2011 07:52 PM

I'm glad you're having such fun together.

EdieClay 02-22-2011 08:00 PM

My DH doesn't do any quilting, but he has a better eye for color than I do. I often get his input when I'm trying to put colors together. Enjoy the special time with your DH. You're lucky he shares your interest.

cla8655 02-22-2011 08:38 PM

I think that when they get involve in the projects, we dont have to hide the cost of the fabric. and he is always fixing my machine and checking the quilt finish to make sure everything is ok
