The most popular brand in Mexico, where it's pronounced Ja-no-me; three syllables.

Ja-NO-me. It means eye of the snake.

Food for thought: The Japanese company that purchased New Home also invented the round drop in bobbin. The Japanese people thought it looked like a snake eye...so they named the new company Janome..the Japanese name for snake eye. I was told this story by an Asian lady at the Houston Quilt festival several years ago. She pronounced it with 3 syllables...Ja-no-me.

My thoughts exactly, one time when I was taking a class, I had just got my new Janome. The instructor just cut it down. I had been so happy about my new machine & still am. The instructor spoiled the whole class for me. I never took another class , she taught.

Oh- I wish I didn't know about it's relation to snakes............ (I know, they are good creatures in nature and do good things. I just don't want so see them doing any of this.............)

Number 2. I was just in the sewing store that I bought mine from and the dealer pronounced it in 3 syllables. I always thought it was the first one.

All this time I thought this thread was bout whether to buy a Janome or not to buy one. Decided to look and see it is about how it is pronounced. WOW

On the other hand, perhaps that person really just did not get what the name was! Guess it would depend on what the intent was.

I, too, am glad to know how JANOME is supposed to be pronounced. I did not realize it was a Japanese name.
