I have a Janome 8900 and it has a 1/4" setting on the touch screen. It produces a 1/4" seam with smaller stitches. The default setting is 3/8" on that machines. The advantage that I see to the foot is that it does have a dam on the side that you butt your fabric to. I also have another 1/4" foot for another machine that doesn't have the dam on it but if I run the fabric along the edge of the foot I get 1/4" seam. That machine doesn't have any adjustments on where the needle is so the presser foot is narrower for the 1/4" seam. I like using a 1/4" foot but if adjusting your needle gives you 1/4" seam by using the edge of your current foot I'd probably just stick with that.

I love mine, and my blocks go together much better when I use it. The only problem I have had is when I decide to do a zig zag stitch and I've forgotten to change the foot. Oops. Oh well, I probably needed a new needle anyway. LOL.

I have 2 Janomes I love the 1/4 inch foot it helps to keep me accurate. On one machine I still have to move the needle on the other I dont.

Janome 6600 owners, when you use the 1/4 inch foot, where do you set the needle? 3.5 ??? Thanks.

On my 6600 I set needle position to 6.6, which is not what the instructions for the (acufeed) foot says. I put my six inch ruler with 1/4" marking under the foot up against the flange & played with the needle position.
Thanks to all for the nail polish idea. |
I like and I use it with the setting that goes with it.

I like mine--the kind with the guide.

I have the Janome 1/4" foot and I do not have to change the needle position.

I just bought a small Janome to take to our vacation place so I don't have to transport my big machine. The 1/4" foot
with guide is perfect with no needle movement needed. I sewed quite a few blocks yesterday and was really pleased with the machine. It goes south on Sunday to its new home. |

I like it. I just wish the flange was some neon color instead of black so I could see better. I still have to change my needle position.
