I have a Janome 415 and a Brother 270D embroidery machine. These are both older machines. I am able to switch the feet between these machines with no problems.

In fact, the darning foot I bought for the Janome works far better on the Brother and the one I bought for the Brother works better on the Janome!

I have never had an issue with using feet that are not brand specific.
