50 yr old machines are awesome. 24 yr old machines, not necessarily.

I just picked up a reconditioned Janome 4000 with hundreds of stitches, on ebay for $200. It is a great little, in size, but very heavy, sewing machine. I wanted many of the stitches for appliqué as I am doing many of Edyta Sitars and she likes using different stitches. This is a fab little machine. Quiet, good price, free shipping and originally sold for $1500. I also have a Janome 5000 embroidery and a 10000 does everything machine. Love Janome!

I bought a 4000 when they first came out ($1000) and it's still a workhorse. I have a 6600 as my main machine and a 760 for classes/retreats. No problem with my Janomes.

I still like my 6600 but it's very testy about doing thicker seams. I get a lot of skipped stitches on them (I mean thick-like 8 layers of cotton and 2 layers of batting, when doing a bag) so for those I switch to my featherweight.

You do just as I do......only thing is I have a Janome 6500P.
I have no problem with thick seams from my FW or my 301A...
Otherwise I love my 6500p

May I ask what specifically you dislike?

I bought a little Janome jem at an Estate Sale and that sold me on the Janome brand, I done my research and wanted the 6600p, found one on Ebay for $1,029.00 with free shipping! It's everything I researched for and more. From now on if I buy another newer machine it will be a Janome, but don't think I'll ever need a new one! And my 6600 will never be used for an upgrade or sold, I just LOVE her!

I love the 6600!

Still love my 7500! Just bought a Janome 8900--still working out the kinks in it.

G'ma Kay asked why I dislike my Janome 6500. My machine should have been painted yellow. I have had feed dog issues, bobbin issues, rattling, jumping out of place bobbin cases, chipping paint, growling, groaning, jamming, breaking needles on thicker seams or even across seam junctions, chewing up fabric at the start, skipped stitches and refusing to raise the feed dogs to a sewing position once they are lowered for FM. I do like all the stitch selection, the self threading and thread cutter (no problems with either of these). I have recently decided to dump this machine and buy something else! The problem is, I don't know how I can sell it and I don't want to keep it anymore.

I have a 6600 and you'd have to walk over my dead body to get it from me. For classes etc. I use my Singer 221. I'm one of those guys that services machines and my all time favorite machine is the 221.
