Jelly Roll Quilt Patterns

Could you all give me some ideas for a jelly Roll quilt. I don’t usually buy jelly rolls, but it was all I could afford at the moment and I fell in love with Tula Pinks Monkey Wrench. I know, kind of out of the box fabric choice. Pictures would be a bonus.

How about Split Decision? Very easy - just looks more complicated!

How about a zig zag or chevron quilt?

Peckish I love all of the colors on your quilt! It is very calming and welcoming.

This pattern was introduced at a quilt retreat as a mystery quilt and was fun to make. Uses a jelly roll and coordinating yardage.
Worked for a lot of different colorways. The creative grid ruler it mentions is the Stripology ruler and strips can be cut without the ruler.....

Go to the Jordan Fabrics web site. They have a free patter for a jelly roll log cabin quilt, I have made it and it is easy. Much of the fun with a log cabin is how you lay out the squares. Dive in and have fun. Here is my version using this pattern. Only took about 4 hours! https://jordanfabrics.com/pages/stri...-cabin-pattern

Peggi, do you have a pattern name for this? I have a lot of partial jelly roll cuts, mostly 6 inches and it looks like your quilt might work for it. I've been wondering how to use them. And beautiful quilt, by the way.

I would start now with Missouri Star Quilt Company they have so many quilts to make with jelly rolls and 2 1/2" strips. Eleanor Burns also has a number of patterns that are 2 1/2" strip quilts. Have fun with your jelly rolls.

Here's a pretty pattern for a jelly roll. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/414894184422081187/ I love Tula Pink. I think something that doesn't "cut" up the pretty prints too much would be great for her line of fabrics.

Or, here's a cute one. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/418694096608133981/

I really love this one. But, I think it would be better suited to a charm pack. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/563231497145355611/

That is a gorgeous quit. I love all the colors.

There are so many patterns that call for jelly rolls. I always go to Pinterest when I want to be inspired by something or I am looking for a specific pattern. All of the quilts that are pictured are so beautiful. Good luck on your search

There's always the Jelly Roll Race ..... and variations of it.

That is a cute (and easy) pattern.

Since the pattern is for 3" wide strips, easy enough to convert and use Jelly Rolls (cut background fabric into 2.5 inch strips also), and then cut the squares into 5 inches (instead of 5.5).

I would also probably put a border around it, just so the edges wouldn't be on the bias.

EasyPeezy 11-25-2019 12:56 PM

Here's some ideas for Tula Pink. Quite a few are made with jelly rolls.

Agree ... a cute pattern
However ... if using 2-1/2" strips, the square cuts would be 4-1/2".

Peckish ... you did a great job with it as a scrappy!

Here's one top I made using the MSQC tutorial of "Amazing Jelly Roll Quilt" pattern by the 3 Dudes. It was my first time using a precut jelly roll (a gift from a relative) and the pattern was actually easy and fun to put together. I call my quilt "Bizz Buzz."

Thank you QuiltE, you are absolutely right (and saved me a few headaches too).

Hey, patchworkbarb... that site was just the first one i found to show you the pattern, but it should definitely still be available elsewhere!

Peckish that quilt looks so springtime happy.

Yes, I used jelly rolls and cut the strips so they were square, which was 4.5" as others have pointed out. I didn't struggle at all with the bias edges. If I remember correctly (I made this quilt a long time ago) I starched the outer edges before attaching the binding. Starching helps no matter what you do to finish the quilt.

Thank you! My oldest son (25) actually claimed it as his. He likes it because "the colors are soft and summery".

Emma's Star is a great pattern for jelly roll strips. Here's one I made. The binding is made with them too.

Second favorite: Strip Twist:

That is just beautiful Peckish. I love the pastels. Is this your own design or did you use a pattern? If so name of it please. I have a couple friends in my quilting group that are NEW to sewing and quilting and this would be a great quilt for them to make. One of the ladies made 3 jelly roll race quilts. She is truly NEW to sewing period. She would love this. That quilt is literally yells SPRING.

Thank you so much. Easy is good!

You might also want to look at Cozy Quilt designs, Jordan's carries several of them or you can go to their website, but most of their quilts are designed specifically for jelly rolls and even though they might look complicated, they are quite easy to make. Donna Jordan has several videos showing you how to make their designs.

Here's one I just happened to find because of your question (Thanks!): https://www.quiltingbookspatternsand...nterlock-quilt

I'm putting it on my bucket list. There is a lot of a solid background, but I think that would be exceptionally good for setting off the interesting Tula Pink fabric.

EasyPeezy 11-26-2019 10:35 AM

Just saw this one. Roman Stripe quilt.
