I'm sure they are handy, BUT... I insist on pre-washing my fabrics (partly due to being allergic to the sizing and chemicals in new fabric) and it would be hard to do with those small pieces. Also, being on a tight budget, I would rather pay less for the fabric and cut it myself.

http://beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com...t-without.html I used one package of Bali Pops in the Cotton Candy (soft pastels) colorway, and one package of Tonga Treats in the Meringue (off-white) colorway. p.s. I purchased both of these items on sale, so the entire top was less than $46. |

i love jelly rolls ive made 3 quilts with them a card trick a irish chain and a log cabin they go together so fast.

I use them some...less now than in the past. I like the convenience of a pre-cut but what you're also paying for is the full line of coordinating fabric...no worries about whether it will all look good together. But, the downside is that you'll have several of the same prints in different
colorways, which might not work in some patterns. Anita |
I enjoy using them. They make the project go faster, but, they sure can be pricy.

If you are new to quilting, it might be helpful to get one of the books out there geared to pre-cut fabrics. And there are a lot of them. If you have lots of ideas running through your head, go for it. They are fun to use. I habe used the 10 inch squares, the half of a 10 inch square (I think they are called turnovers), the charm packs and jelly rolls. I have used them by themselves and combined them with other fabrics. Just go for it, have lots of fun!

Sometimes it's more practical to buy the precuts if you want a variety of the fabrics because many places, especially online shops, will not sell less than 1/4 or 1/2 yard. It would cost a lot more to get 40 1/4 yard pieces to get the variety you can get in a jelly roll. |
