JoAnn's first for me!

I have been to JoAnn's thousands of times and today was the first time I have gone there looking for 2 specific items. Both items were in stock, and drumroll, please, neither item was on sale!!!!

I was able to use my 40% off and my 50% off coupons!

I almost fainted!

:D

 I appreciate the miraculous nature of this experience!!!

erstan947 07-13-2012 11:18 AM

Good for you!! JoAnn's is too far away for me but I do online order from them from time to time and get ½ off. It's always great when we get a good buy!:)

And I just ordered 2 lengths of fabric from their website. I got them today, and they were both cut very generously! Maybe a postive trend?

Very rare to find what you need at JoAnns and it isn't on sale. At least you found what you were looking for. The JoAnns here in Ft.Wayne is in the middle of re-orginazing the whole store. It took one manager, one sales clerk and my SO, but I finally found what I wanted.:D

Ditto on the appreciation!

Pat625 07-13-2012 12:48 PM

I have been very lucky..my Joannes always seems to have what I want PLUS MORE!! ..The staff is always very helpful. Must be there too much, because when I was not in for a week, they worried! They thought I was back in the hospital (I was) LOL

I was in the Fort Wayne Joann's today and it was a mess! There was one employee who didn't bother to hide her stress over the store being in shambles. And it was quite obvious that she wasn't too happy to help me find what I was looking for. I don't go in there very often anymore because that is the usual service whether there is a store remodel going on or not.

I was talking to the lady who cut my fabric, who is always pleasant, and they expect the store to be in shambles for another 2-3 weeks. I brought up that Coupon Commotion is next week. If you have ever been to Joann's during Coupon Commotion, you will understand! It will be interesting to see how the sale goes!

Sewnoma 07-13-2012 01:30 PM

I need to stay away from that store. They always get me with the bolt end. "Do you want the remainder for half off?" OF COURSE I DO. They know I can't resist!

There's a Joann's about 3 blocks from work, and another one about a mile from my house. I'm surrounded! I watch their sales and use their coupons carefully and often walk out of there feeling like I've robbed the place. It still adds up, though... and I've learned to check the fabric quality verrrry carefully!

They've always been great about returns & swatches, and always cut my fabric well - if it's not straight on the leading end they scootch it over and give a generous allowance for straightening.

mary705 07-14-2012 03:07 AM

I have always had good luck and service at my JoAnns. When they remodeled the store a while back, employees were very helpful finding what I was looking for. I haven't been buying except for a special project, been using all my stash (lots of it). I did get 3 sets of 12 FQ at Tuesday Morning yesterday, along with the other set I got last week, all good quality fabric too. Washed and pressed up very nice.

calicojoan 07-14-2012 03:50 AM

Glad it worked for you. I went in and of course they didn't have what I was looking for!:(

AnnT 07-14-2012 03:59 AM

Yay for you! How often does that happen??? Not very in my experience!

snipforfun 07-14-2012 04:16 AM

Our Joanns is opening in a new huge location in 2 weeks. The present Joanns looks like a war zone while they are closing it down. The new one will be at least 4 times the size. Should be quite the place.

sulyle 07-14-2012 04:53 AM

Good for you! I can't thinkof the last time I managed to even use a coupon. No matter what I want it's on sale for 20 to 30% off so I can never use that 50% coupon. I wonder how many of us are guilty of buying something we didn't even want just to use the coupon.

Steady Stiching 07-14-2012 04:53 AM

LOL.....the illusive non sale item at Joanns....kudo's to you for finding it!!!
I have stood outside the store handing out my just about ready to expire coupons...in the hopes that another gal will be able to seek out same!!....Hey Joanns....take a clue!! As I have to be beyond desperate to pay that extra 40% they tack on to EVERYTHING.

Latrinka 07-14-2012 05:06 AM

I've ordered online from them, and they do send very generous cuts. And I've been to the store in Lafayette, nice store, never had a problem.

mimom 07-14-2012 05:09 AM

I have a joanns 1.5 miles away and a credit card balance to show for it

pippi65 07-14-2012 05:13 AM

What a great feeling huh? It seems that they put almost everything on "sale" and you can't use their coupons. I used to use them on buying magazines and now it seems they're always 10% off and you can't use the coupon!! Good Job!!

Tartan 07-14-2012 05:19 AM

Wow, mark that occasion on your calendar! Being able to use your coupon on something you actually want is rare indeed. Congratutions!

IraJane 07-14-2012 05:49 AM

A former sewing student of mine through middle school and then in a high school class is asst. manager at Angola's Joanns. Of course I sent students there and frequented there myself but was quite surprised when I was in the hospital I received a great well card for the employees of the store.

If I go in for something and it is one sale, I use the coupon for another spool of good thread.

The JoAnn's I go to is always a mess. Very disorganized. Not enough help, I think. This week I saw a sign posted on the back of filing cabinets, near the cutting table that read: "Fernando will be making unannounced visits to all stores. The store has to be PERFECT every night." I assume this a warning to employees but I found it funny that it was in plain sight of the customers!

nanascottie 07-14-2012 06:15 AM

you are lucky indeed - i never get to use my coupons because they have everything on sale - most is 5% or10% off which isn't much. i actually find better deals at local quilt shops that have QUALITY material on sale - some name brand for $4.99 to 7.99 a yard. i came out of the adirondack quilt shop in glens falls, new york with more fabric and spent less than at joanns. all brand names - that my local joannes does not carry.

susiequilt 07-14-2012 06:55 AM

It takes so little to make me happy!
JoAnns is about 20 miles from me (40 miles round trip) so I don't get there like I used to do.
With the cost of gas and the cost of lunch saving 10-20% ends up costing me more than I save.

fmhall2 07-14-2012 07:25 AM

Our JoAnn's is about 35 miles away. It has only been open about a year or so, and I have only been there once. When I lived in IL I was in Freeport JoAnn's on a regular basis. But we do have a Hancock's here in Greenville, two Hobby Lobbys and two Wal Marts.

Grandma Peg 07-14-2012 07:36 AM

It's nice when you can use your coupons. It seems so many times I go and what I need is already on sale so I waste the coupons.

liont 07-14-2012 07:39 AM

Haha.. With Joanns, anything less than 30% off is not considered on sale! I'd wait for a regular day and use my coupon.
Yes coupon commotion is crazy. First day of Red Tag sale is crazy too!
I love getting those "branded" fabrics like Legacy, Debbie Mums on 50% off red tag price! Calicoes are like $1 - $1.50 a yard. Good for backings.

Haha.. Where I lived last time, Joanns was on my way to Walmart. So guess what usually happens?:p

irishrose 07-14-2012 07:41 AM

I was in JoAnn's yesterday and used both my coupons - the 40% and the 50%, which is rare. When I have an unused coupon, I buy a bag of batting if it's not on sale. Batting is too expensive at full price. Now I have a hexagon ruler, Yay! I did pay full price for a red piece of fabric, but it was good fabric and a nice color, so I only bought the 1/3 that I needed. My nearest one is 50 miles away so it only gets visited after Dr app'ts. It is clean and organized, but understaffed.

Teri D 07-14-2012 08:16 AM

I figure that any trip to JoAnn with coupons is a good way to exercise our brains to try to figure out what we can use our coupons on that isn't on sale! It's like a game or a puzzle that will keep us young. I usually have a "list" of stuff I can use but am not desperate for and wait to "pounce" when they haven't used that sneaky "10% off" tactic on something good. They've got some clever marketing people who are good at giving us old biddies a challenge -- but we're up for it!

borntoquilt 07-14-2012 08:17 AM

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have gone to our local Joanns only to come out empty handed. What I want is usually already ON SALE but what I find MOST disturbing is their fabric has just gotten plain UGLY! A few days ago I was in looking for backing for a SCRAPPY (you'd think I could something to go with SCRAPPY, right?) charity quilt. Most of the fabric was what I would call (back in the 60's) MOD. These bold florals with lots of bright colors are just not for me.... Plus they have a whole wall of solid colors.... I like lots of texture in my fabrics so solid do not do it for ME!! I usually end up buying my spray glue w/50% cause they never put THAT on sale.... I too, end up passing out my coupons to other customers. I always ask that if they can't use to pass them on before they leave the store. Wish I could hand out my IPHONE coupons.... OH WELL! Coupons DO get us in the door!! I just find I haven't bought anything there in a long time...... plus the store is a mess!!! I do like the manager and the clerks are friendly. But that doesn't put a backing on my quilt!! lol !!!

vickig626 07-14-2012 08:18 AM

I did that too a couple days ago -- needed batting and stabilizer and used my 50% on the batting and 40% on stablizer. Of course, couldn't leave without buying at least a little fabric which was 30% off. Cha-Ching!! Love when that happens.

MargeD 07-14-2012 10:43 AM

Congratulations - I love it when I can use those 40% and 50% off coupons.

CAS49OR 07-14-2012 12:52 PM

LOL! WTG! The things I'm looking for are always on sale, so I can't use my coupon. I suppose the sale price is the same "af if" but still, the coupons are often an incentive to get in there and buy something without them.

SewExtremeSeams 07-14-2012 01:06 PM

I was in JoAnn's two days ago. The parking lot was loaded when we got there, I leisurely did my shopping... and when I got up to the check out line, there were more than 10 people in line with only 2 clerks. I left my cart by the side. I figured they had a enough time to figure out they were busy and to get enough people to check customers out in a timely fashion. I am not that desperate!

CAS49OR 07-14-2012 01:45 PM

I feel the same way about Michael's. Had to beg for someone to help me find what I wanted, then had to go to checkout and wait another 10 minutes. I think "big box" stores can afford to hire more help!

I, too, have to be on my toes with the Joann's coupon game. However, I realize that is a corporate issue, and I imagine that the local staff finds it challenging also.

The clerks in my store are super friendly and accommodating. They put up with cutting my big fleece orders when it is on sale even when their scissors hands are tired. Yesterday one of the assistant managers went to the back and unpacked a box of merchandise, so that I could have a large empty box to mail quilts and supplies to my mom. I appreciate that kind of service, and he did it with a smile!

CAS49OR 07-14-2012 02:28 PM

My "guy" at Joanne's --- I'll ask him if a coupon will work, he makes it work if the computer will take it. It is possible to use a "craft" coupon for a yard of fabric.

I second that sentiment!

I don't go to Joann's very often as it is about a 60 mile drive for me. So often what I want is on sale for 10% or 20% off and the good coupons aren't able to be used. If we are headed over that way I will stop in and shop; otherwise I check things out online and just wait.
