i've heard that joann's will no longer be carrying fq's. has anyone else heard this? the girl in the store thought the rumor is true, because she hasn't seen any coming in in several weeks now.

sharon b 01-25-2010 09:48 PM

I thought someone else somewhere here on the board said that Joannes had a problem with their supplier who wasn't cutting true fat quarters and so they were working to fix the problem. And if the last fat quarters i got from there are any indication it was true :hunf:

Chasing Hawk 01-25-2010 09:50 PM

No way!!...How rude, the majority of my crafting is made from those little jewels. I guess we can all go in and just buy 22"s each of the fabric we want at a time, then have them cut those in half...that'll teach them. I am sure the poor cutting ladies will get tired of cutting 22" off dozens of bolts then ringing each one separately (tax purposes) ha-ha

AbbyQuilts 01-25-2010 10:01 PM

They just changed suppliers. I bought some of the old fq's on clearance for 50 cents. They already had the new ones

Jingle 01-26-2010 05:09 AM

I don't use fgs, I buy 5-8 Yd.s at a time, sometimes more. I have lots of scraps and when I make scrappy quilts I use what I have. DD uses fqs.

watterstide 01-26-2010 05:31 AM

no new FQ's in either of our Joanns yet..i hope they are not getting rid of them:(

Alu_Rathbone 01-26-2010 06:11 AM

You can get some out of the crafting center of Wal-Mart... I jsut saw them there the other day when I was looking for buttons! lol

I have not been to Joanns in awhile... so I really would not know.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-26-2010 07:45 AM

Our Joann's has no FQ's right now. None! I was shocked. The cutting table girls had no clue why not or if any were coming in.

Rose Marie 01-26-2010 07:47 AM

I wondered why they were selling fats so cheap. They were never less than 99c before.
Must be clearing out the wrong cuts and finding another supplier.

kapatt 01-26-2010 08:12 AM

My JoAnns don't have the fat quarters and they've taken down their fat quarter holders that they had on the wall with the bolts of fabrics.

Rose Marie 01-26-2010 08:30 AM

Oh no, I loved collecting thier fats.

HeatherQuilts 01-26-2010 08:39 AM

Here's the deal: :-)
The supplier they had before had issues with the sizes of the F4's. A lot of them were smaller than 18x22. So, they are getting rid of whatever F4's are left (that's why they were 99 cents for so long) They are getting a new supplier, and most Jo-Ann's should have a new stock of F4's sometime in February.
Not to worry everyone! The F4's will return to Jo'Ann's!! :-)

CrystalKicks 01-26-2010 08:41 AM

Ours is getting a new supplier....they have been out for a few weeks...and do not have a particular delivery date but will be getting them soon.

DollyRose 01-26-2010 09:21 AM

I've been shopping for material at other locations, not Joann's. I've found that the FQs they do have are not the same quality as their bolt fabrics and I could never find bolt fabrics to go with the FQs. I did go into a remodeled Joann's in Boise the other day and was not impressed with their quilt fabric selection. AND this store has the Viking section :-P and the gal that was there was really a hag, not nice at all  so I left, empty handed...

TexasGurl 01-26-2010 09:40 AM

I had the same question a week or 2 ago when I noticed they had just disappeared from our store - the Mgr. said they will be stocking all new as they'd had problems with miscuts & short sizes

I told her I hoped they'll stock more to match fabrics on the shelf too ... she didn't know about that ?

cindy lou 01-26-2010 10:05 AM

I work at Jo-anns and thats wrong we are getting new ones we got some in last week

butterflywing 01-26-2010 10:42 AM

btw, i was looking for brown kona yesterday on sale, and there is definitely a difference in quality. it has a much looser weave and when you hold it up you can see right through it. my nearest lqs is a distance away, but their kona is a much better quality with more weight and tighter weave. another example of a good brand making some of their fabric to joann's specifications to meet a price point. that's why joann's can sell it for $3.99 with coupon.

littlehud 01-31-2010 10:05 PM

I still buy some fat quarters but most of the time I buy yardage.

Gramof6 01-31-2010 11:55 PM

HeatherQuilts I asked at a couple of JoAnns & I got the same answer. So give it a few weeks & I think the Fats will return.

Alu_Rathbone 02-01-2010 05:07 AM

I was just at our Joann's yesterday, and they did not have any fat quarters unless it was cut by them and in those little bundles that they sell or in a Quilt kit.

The manager said that at ours they are getting ready to remodel. Which they are looking for help and I applied... So maybe they will get more after they are done remodeling (at mine at least).

Ohio Star Quilter 02-01-2010 06:58 AM

I was at Joanns yesterday and they got some if the new FQs in and they are now $1.99. They used to be $1.49.

Tink's Mom 02-01-2010 07:15 AM

I was at mine on Sat. They have some in the holders, but not more than 20. Yes, the price is up to $1.99 I hope the quality is better in the new ones...

grandma1 02-01-2010 09:08 AM

I was in jo-anns the other day and noticed their stock of fq's were about 2/3rds down was wondering whats going on. Had to by yardage.

Do you mean you're finding a difference in the quality of the Kona that JoAnn carries, versus what's in the LQSs?

Thats the fabric i was going to get, but didn't the way it looked or the fact that feel felt cheap! I was disappointed cause I had read nothing but great ratings about the fabric from Joann's website.

I have an interview with them tomorrow!!! Hope I get the job! First interview in three years!!!

Quilter7x 02-01-2010 01:11 PM

Good luck Alu!

Kyiav10 02-01-2010 01:26 PM

Now that you mention it I didn't see any when I was in the other day.

I see you live in Williamsport, I live in Muncy! We will have to get together sometime!

As for the FQ at Joanns, I was in there on Saturday, and just happened to mention it to the manager. She said they are in the back just waiting to be restocked. I mentioned that the stickers were impossible to get off sometimes. She said they don't put them on, they come from the suppliers that way, and that maybe the new supplier would use something that would come off easier. She did mention also that the FQ's were going to be slightly more expensive.

no question about it. the kona it joann's is not as good. just like the debbie mumm. they used to carry a better quality of that also. now the kona and the mumm are bad.

brushandthimble 02-01-2010 08:30 PM

good luck on your interview!

are you agreeing about the poor quality? or asking? (good luck)

ConnieF 02-02-2010 01:53 AM

I thought the same thing here localy but not true... they was not ordering more and was selling out all they had for there is going to be a new setting for them. They have gotten some of the new stuff in this past week and some are very nice... I am waiting for a .99 cent sale. Oh and they used to be $1.49 and they will be either $1.49 or $1.99 so you will have to look to see what the price is on some of them.

ConnieF 02-02-2010 01:55 AM

yes I did get some that were no a full 18 in.... and you really have to watch for quality also

ConnieF 02-02-2010 01:57 AM

I love FQ's to make the crumb quilts.... 15 of them makes a nice large lap quilt with a focus fab.

ConnieF 02-02-2010 02:06 AM

Here the novilty ones are $1.99 and the others are still$1.49

If you look at the end of the bolt...The Debbie Mumm is now made in China. It used to be a better fabric. I'm not sure where the kona is made. Will be buying some black this week.

May in Jersey 02-02-2010 04:28 AM

2 weeks ago I had picked up a bunch of FQ's marked 50 cents but they were ringing up at full price, new gal at register couldn't get the sale price to come up, no one came to help her so I told her forget about it as I had to leave. Went back last week, hardly any 50 cent FQ's left but I got what I wanted.

Re: the Joann's Kona lighter weight than LQS's. Do you think all Kona fabrics are now lighter and LQS has some older bolts? I hate to think that is the case as there are time when I really need the Kona weight in a project. May in Jersey

liblueeyes 02-02-2010 04:48 AM

Our local Joanns had not one FQ in the store the last time I was there ! I would say they are done with them.

I'm agreeing about the cheap quality. In fact, the next brand over felt better that the Kona, and that fabric was $1 less! the brand next to it was Quilters Only.

And thank you everyone with the well wishes.

butterflywing 02-02-2010 07:20 AM

i agree about the other brand. that's the brown i bought.
