I've lost a lot of sensation in my feet and legs, makes things like walking a challenge, also kind of hard to know what I'm stepping on. So, I'm sewing tonite, put my foot back on the foo tpedal to resume stitching, my machine won't go, tap it a few more times, still no go. Getting very annoyed by this time (doesn't take long--my sewing room is hot). Tapped a little more aggressively.........the dog finally got up and moved.

LoriEl 06-10-2011 05:04 PM

Funny-about the dog, of course, not MS. My SIL has had it for quite awhile and has some very bad days.
Then again, I guess the dog didn't think it was funny.

sewwhat85 06-10-2011 05:05 PM

not so funny but made me chuckle any way

B. Louise 06-10-2011 05:06 PM

Thank you for sharing your story with us. You are giving us a laugh, even though your life can be very frustrating. I'm glad you can enjoy your sewing and the quilting board in spite of your difficulties.

jillnjo 06-10-2011 05:07 PM

Just keep on tapping! Take care of yourself and many blessings sent your way. I have a friend with MS,too, and she is so fun to be with!

bearisgray 06-10-2011 05:10 PM

Hope most of your days are good.

You must have a very patient dog.

AbbyQuilts 06-10-2011 05:16 PM

I have MS and I laughed so hard because I can relate so well.
Thanks for sharing

TinkerQuilts 06-10-2011 05:19 PM

I can laugh too, with you. I'm going to a quilt retreat with my SIL next week up in northwestern Wyoming. My BIL has had MS for 10+ years and it's a struggle, but he does awesome things!

Dina 06-10-2011 05:21 PM

I don't have MS and have done this, but with my cat. Cat took a long time to leave!! I figured he liked it...

blueangel 06-10-2011 05:33 PM

I guess the dog didn't like it.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-10-2011 05:35 PM

Love your humor, it will serve you well :)
Poor pooch! LOL

ncsewer 06-10-2011 05:55 PM

LOL, the sense of humor is still there! Cute story

How ironic that this happened to me a while back but differently. I too have MS and was ready to stitch and go. Well the machine didn't run. I checked the power cord, the light was on but kept hitting the pedal. Finally I realized I wasn't hitting the table but the "foot" of the table leg!

BETTY62 06-10-2011 07:14 PM

I'm sorry to learn you have MS but I'm glad you have use of your limbs so you can enjoy sewing.

Dee G 06-10-2011 07:18 PM

I admire your determination and love your sense of humor.

BrendaY 06-10-2011 09:38 PM

Funny story! I have to share it w/ all my friends now..

Hugs to you..

:XD: That is so funny, hope the dog wasn't hurt and has a sense of humor. I have the same problem with MS, can't even FIND the footpedal without locating it first by eye.

mtnative 06-10-2011 10:02 PM

Thanks for the laugh. But more so thank you for your example of courage and inspiration.

alikat110 06-10-2011 10:12 PM

So funny. Sorry to here you have MS. very frustrating I'm sure. Hope your dog is ok

mamahippychicky 06-10-2011 10:28 PM

LOL, hope your dog wasn't too upset with you :)

ScubaK 06-11-2011 01:19 AM

Oh, you brought me back some memories of my dear Mother...Thank you and please, keep sewing.
Kirsten

"Laugh and the world laughs with you". It is so great that you can still appreciate this because the rest of that quotation does you no good at all. I so admire your "spunk".

Krystyna 06-11-2011 03:09 AM

Poor dog! It must be frustrating for you. My sister was an artist and developed MS after the birth of her second child. I know how difficult it was for her. I hope you are able to sew for a long, long time.

susanwilley 06-11-2011 03:15 AM

lol! That is funy! Poor dog probably thought he was getting a massage. A sense of humor helps in all things!!

Linda Loo 06-11-2011 03:30 AM

From a fellow MS quilter I say "been there: done that!''. Everything from table legs to hubby's foot! Wouldn't it be nice to know where your feet are???????? Good sewing and good health to you. Linda

manetha 06-11-2011 03:30 AM

I too sew and quilt with MS. My "helpers" (3 cats) love it when I sew because whatever I am working on is always so "cozy" and needs to be tried out. The foot pedal is not their choice of bed but laying right behind the machine and watching the needle is. Please keep the passion for your creativity because it will help to keep the ability!

sewcrafty 06-11-2011 04:06 AM

LMBO! Poor thing probably couldn't figure out what you were doing.

FWDesigns 06-11-2011 04:13 AM

Thanks for that laugh. I can relate to your story as somedays my legs work well and somedays not so much. I am glad to see I'm in such good company on here! (Another MS'er).

ka9sdn 06-11-2011 04:15 AM

I don't have MS but have lost feeling in my feet and hands from chemo so I can relate. Keep going--I do. Some days I want to stick my tongue out at my machune and it even has a button I can push to get it to sew. That does help till I need to make a fast stop. Oh, great is life. Sure is. Keep smiling.

angelwingz 06-11-2011 04:15 AM

Try putting the foot pedal on the table and using your elbow :) good luck to you <3

Tweety2911 06-11-2011 04:56 AM

I also admire your determination and your great sense of humor. Hugs!

AnnT 06-11-2011 05:21 AM

Thanks for the laugh! It's good you are able to keep your sense of humor. I don't have MS but have had to check to make sure I was actually pressing on the pedal rather than something else that had strayed under my table; sometimes the dog, sometimes a book, it could be just about anything!.

lillybeck 06-11-2011 05:28 AM

Loving this one.

Lucky Lindy 06-11-2011 05:30 AM

Darn foot pedal! I have 3 siblings and they all have MS, so I have witnessed their struggles since I was a young person. I hope that you can find a way to continue to enjoy sewing. Whatever happens, know that even if you can't sew you can still share your skills and knowledge with others. I admire you, God Bless you!

Homemother 06-11-2011 05:57 AM

LOL! You sound so much like my younger sister who has breast cancer. She doesn't dwell on what she can't do, she focuses on what she can do and keeps us in stitches all the way! Too tired? She says, "would love to but I have an appointment with my recliner and the tv tonight!"

Thanks for the positive talk! You're a blessing!

dsch 06-11-2011 06:10 AM

My mini dachshund loves to sleep under my sewing desk area, too. I have to kick him out of the way to sew. One day, I felt him there & kicked & kicked & kicked & he didn't leave. Turns out it was my houseshoe that I was kicking! :)

skillon 06-11-2011 06:13 AM

Wow, I've got MS also!! Pipp, loved your story.

You have to laugh or you'll cry. Right?

angelface49 06-11-2011 06:42 AM

I have peripheral neuropathy. There are good days and bad. During a bad spell my husband mounted the foot pedal on the side of the sewing cabinet so I could use my knee instead of foot. What I love about human nature is that we continue to strive instead of giving up.

muskratwine 06-11-2011 06:48 AM

I know what you mean - I was diagnosed with MS in 1994 but am doing pretty well - not progressing too much. But it can be frustrating when your legs won't cooperate. But sewing helps keep me sane and is my relaxation and salvation. My dog loves to be in the sewing room with me and she is also very patient altho I've never had her under my cabinet. I know some days are better than others so enjoy the good ones and quilt!!

Elisabethann 06-11-2011 06:59 AM

I'm so sorry about the MS, but glad that you are still able to sew. And you have a good sense of humor! Thanks for the giggle this morning about the dog.
