Tink's Mom 01-20-2011 02:38 PM

This is a wonderful machine...fast smooth...well built...likes lots of oil. I just love mine.

nursie76 01-20-2011 02:40 PM

I have one on a frame and use it to quilt. Has a 9" harp and is awesome. Only sews straight stitch. And yes, it does love oil! It really is an great, dependable machine.

Quiltforme 01-20-2011 03:06 PM

LOVE my juki it is a work horse loves oil and cleaning but very easy to do!

katsewnsew 01-20-2011 03:20 PM

My Juki TL98E is around 8 yrs old and works wonderfully. I use it mostly for assembly piecing and free motion quilting. Also works good when making totes, wallets, etc. as it glides thru heavy fabrics like butter! Never once had problems with it.

pocoellie 01-20-2011 03:45 PM

Personally, I think I'd save my money to buy one with a much bigger throat, unless your quilts tend to be smaller ones, I have a 10" throat, and it's a real pain in the behind to quilt big quilts, in my opinion.

Riversong 01-20-2011 04:16 PM

I dont do anything bigger than wall or crib, and it said this has a 9 inch throat. I want sturdy and lasting and the features on this one will help with some of my physical limitations.I think I would love it.

pocoellie 01-20-2011 04:36 PM

That's great then, it sounds like it would work for you.

kriscraft99 01-20-2011 04:38 PM

my friend that I purchased "the truck load" from, had one of these - I tried to buy it from her and she said she loves it and will never get rid of it!

Congratulations for you!! You definitely deserve it for all of the sewing you do :)

jodimarie 01-20-2011 04:44 PM

I have the Brother 1500 which is, IMO, the same machine and I would NOT trade her for a million dollars. That machine is used almost every day for hours at a time and in the 8 years I have owned her, she has NEVER skipped a stitch or caused me ONE bit of problem. A drop of oil and a good sucking with my shop vac and she purrs like a kitten. Of course, all she does is goes forwards and backwards but I can free motion with the best of them and have NO problem with a king size quilt in the throat area. I did buy a very nice computerized Elna over the summer....love the varitey of stitches ( blanket for edge work ) but the Brother sure has been my ''go to'' machine.

hazeljane 01-20-2011 04:49 PM

I have a Juki 98Q and totally love it. I want a long arm, but even when I get one, this will remain my primary piecing machine. I will never trade her in. I love quilting on it, and love piecing. Just remember that you must oil her all the time. She is all metal and will live forever!

I will say that I jumped up one model to get the thread cutter, after great debate, and I find it totally worth it. Now, on my old Singer, I sometimes get irritated because the thread cutter is not there.

jodimarie 01-20-2011 04:50 PM

I searched the website and it looks like they are offering 2 different ''package deals'' for this machine.....one with and one without the quilters table. Trust me, you want the quilters table attachment....I think it was 100.00 more but worth it.

kriscraft99 01-20-2011 05:03 PM

oh that is right, my friend's has the thread cutter (she loves it and cannot live without it) plus the quilting table..

Mary M 01-20-2011 05:06 PM

I have one and think it is a great machine. I bought it to go with a Grace Frame but love piecing with it and also FMQ. I like piecin with it better than myJanome6600! I think it is one of those machines that will last and last...just keep oiling them. Others have probably said the same.

lalaland 01-20-2011 05:21 PM

I'm also leaning towards this machine for FMQ, and it does have the thread cutter which is really important if you are doing FMQ on it. I'm considering getting the Easy Quilter and I want a machine with a bigger throat to put on it.

The EQ site is http://www.easyquilter.com/index.htm.

If you want to see additional reviews on the Juki, you can find them on http://sewing.patternreview.com/news...i-bin/index.pl

leatheflea 01-20-2011 05:38 PM

So can you use this machine on a quilt frame? How does it perform on the frame without a stitch regulator?

hazeljane 01-20-2011 06:26 PM

I have a stitch regulator and I like it, but that is because I am not so smooth. I have heard others like it even without the regulator.

It took me half a practice quilt to get the tension right, but after that, totally smooth sailing. I love mine.

Jingle 01-20-2011 06:43 PM

I have 2 Juki TL98QE sewing machines, use 1 for piecing, other for FMQ. I love them.

Retiredandquilting 01-21-2011 02:47 AM

I am on my second Juki and I love it. I owned my first one for 9 years and the mother board needed to be replaced, so I bought a new one. I am a very heavy user; usually a day does not go by that my maching is not sewing something. I use it to piece and for free motion quilting. I free motion quilt on all size quilts, including queen and king and have no trouble fitting it in the throat of the machine. I love my machine!

mustangquilts 01-21-2011 05:22 AM

I bought mine from sewing machine plus also. I love the machine. She is a work horse. I machine quilted 24 quilts last year and never had a problem.

sidmona 01-21-2011 05:49 AM

I have one and absolutely love it! It has all the features I want and is virtually a workhorse. I have done many queen and king size quilts with FMQ on it. I have had it for 7 years and wouldn't trade it.

I have had this machine about 2 years now. If you have any questions just yell. Can't promise I'll know answer but I'll try. I use mine for piecing and free mtion quilting. I don't use a frame just the machine. Love it. PS - book says oil every use and I do, runs much smoother.

cheryl222 01-21-2011 05:55 AM

Bought one 6 years ago to go on a SuperQuilter frame. I loved it so much I would take it off the frame to do my piecing and sewing clothes, even though I had a fancy HV machine. It can be a heavy duty machine, sewing through many layers as I make purses. I decided to get a larger throat and a new frame for machine quilting but wouldn't part with my Juki. It is my favorite for sewing. Never had one bit of problem with it.

lynmh 01-21-2011 06:21 AM

Wouldnt part with my Juki either. You would never be sorry you bought it.

bobstassi 01-21-2011 06:41 AM

I have a Juki, and I've had it for about 10 years. If you can get the one with the thread cutter, when I have to use my singer (because of a zigzag stitch I always mash on the pedal trying to hit the thread cutter. My Juki have had no problems even after making countless quilts, bags, fleece blankets and innumerable stuffed fleece animals.

katlady 01-21-2011 06:57 AM

I have that machine & it is good for quilting & all sewing. The only thing is you have to oil it each time you use it.
No problems with the machine, I really like mine.

ree-nee 01-21-2011 07:18 AM

I bought the same machine with my Grace frame.
It is a GREAT machine.
I am very pleased with it.

elliot 01-21-2011 08:22 AM

love mine also

I own this machine and a Gracie Lite frame. I got the whole deal from kenssewingcenter.com. I really wanted a long arm, but the short arm and the Grace frame were within my budget.

I used the machine without the frame to piece and machine quilt a small quilt for a charity organization before I put it on the frame. It sews amazing well. It is fast, quiet and makes a 1'4" seam with almost no effort, which was a major deal for me because my clunker Brother makes it darn near impossible to sew an accurate 1/4" seam.

I have made 4 or 5 large throws and 2 queen sized quilts on my Juki on the frame and it still sews great. It sat for almost a year and when I went down to use it right before Christmas I just oiled it and started sewing. The only problem I ever have is breaking thread, but every time that happens and I figure out what went wrong it is ALWAYS operator error.

For the money I think you can't beat a Juki. I am really wanting to buy another to use for piece work. It is time consuming to remove it from the frame and then put it back because it is so large and heavy.

PS I got a great assortment of feet by ordering thru Kens. The walking foot is huge and heavy, which to me is an indicator of the quality of the foot.

Message me should you have any specific questions.

NanaInVirginia 01-21-2011 08:38 AM

Wow I can't believe how much the price has gone up in just 14 months. I paid $900 for my combo and that included shipping plus they upgraded me to the QE so I have the thread cutter. I can't live without a cutter now, lol.

NanaInVirginia 01-21-2011 08:39 AM

Here you go, just in case you have a limited budget and want a frame.

BarbZ 01-21-2011 08:50 AM

I bought a used Juki with a Handiquilter frame. I love the machine. I didn't have good luck with it on the frame though. Didn't have the knac I guess. But I do use it as a FMQ machine. My husband made me a nice table to go around it out of wood. I turn the machine to face me and put the table on and it is perfect. I got the idea for the table onthe forum. Do a search on handmade quilt tables I believe. The bigges quilt I have done on it is a 70 x 70 and was fine. The only thing i don't care for is the bobbin is a side loader rather than drop in. But otherwise its great!!

BarbZ 01-21-2011 09:02 AM

I found a site for handmade wooden quilt tables. HTTP://abkcreations.blogspot.com/201...nsiontable.HTM My husband made one for me and it also fits my new Janome 6600. He put high gloss varnish on it and then I put the pledge to it. Works slick. You can make it as wide or long as you want.Mine fits with my machine facing me with the needle in the front in front of me. I think that is how to put it. LOL

sewwhat85 01-21-2011 10:13 AM

sorry i am no help good luck

JJat2 01-21-2011 10:24 AM

Riversong,

I have longed for this machine for the last 3 to 4 months. Could I afford this or not? I have a great Janome 1100 Embroidery sewing machine. But didn't want to use it continuously for my quilting. I was looking for something that I could learn free motion on and that would be that dependable quilting machine. I am now waiting for it to arrive. I did buy the one with the extended table. Today is the day to organize my sewing area.... All the people that have had any time on this machine have had nothing but good things to say about it. It is such a good deal at this site and they also have nothing but good comments on helping you with any problems. They believe in custermer service. I think you have picked a great machine. I will tell you more after I have gotten my hands on it and sewn some things together. :) Hope this has helped. Good luck in deciding. It is hard to do.
Julie

I have one on my Gracie Frame and really like it. I have two other machines that I use for piecing.

Melinda in Tulsa 01-21-2011 12:26 PM

I recently bought the new Juki TL2010Q, which has replaced the 98Q (been discontinued). I got it at http://www.Raicharts.com for $749 including shipping. If you want something with more stitches, check out the Juki F600 at Raicharts for $975. They are great to do business with.

garysgal 01-21-2011 03:45 PM

I have one and I love it. It is smooth running and makes really nice stitches. You'll love it.

jitkaau 01-21-2011 05:09 PM

It is very similar to the Brother Nouvelle 1500s that I own. Speaking from the physical side, the 9" throat and flat bed make it extremely easy to quilt. The Brother requires regular oiling and soon lets you know if it needs it.
I would buy a machine like this.

LoriMcc 01-21-2011 05:26 PM

I bought a used Juki on e-bay to use on my quilting frame. I love it!!!! Good luck! :P
