I would guess that my machine has been doing this for some time, but has just started to really annoy me. When I use any 'speed' on my machine it is really viberating and jumping on my table..... What kind of padding are you using under your machine to stop this problem...batting????? foan ???? headliner ???? none of above.....

buslady 06-28-2011 01:54 PM

You need a steadier table, maybe? Mine does that when we sew on the long tables at church unless I set it in a corner where it is a little more solid. Hope that helps.

sewwhat85 06-28-2011 01:56 PM

try using a bath mat under your machine you know one of those with suction cups on the underside also try moving your machine closer to the end of your table

skippitydodahquilts 06-28-2011 02:02 PM

I have this problem too. I started using a shorter table, and that seemed to really help.

hobo2000 06-28-2011 02:08 PM

My granddaughters machine does that. I put doublesided velcro on all 4 feet and on her table. Holds it really nice and it doesn't walk anymore.

MisDixie 06-28-2011 02:22 PM

Had a jumper once. I got a foam placemat and put it underneath. No more jumping from that machine.

ghostrider 06-28-2011 02:27 PM

You know those cushioned anti-fatigue mats that they sell to stand on in front of your kitchen sink? How about cutting one of those to set your sewing machine on? Just a thought.

Leota 06-28-2011 02:31 PM

"Jumping" is cause by the motor being so strong... placing the machine on a sturdy table with a anti-slip mat will help also getting a sewing table made for that machine... about $50- $100 new will correct the problem..

blueangel 06-28-2011 03:20 PM

I would use a sturdier table to set it on.

Raggiemom 06-28-2011 03:42 PM

I would guess you need a steadier table but hopefully one of the above suggestions will help.

NauDeeGal 06-28-2011 03:46 PM

A sturdier table may be the fix. I also use the foam kneeling pads sold for gardening under my portable machines. I believe you can get these at a dollar store, too.

craftybear 06-28-2011 04:55 PM

I always set my sewing machine on a piece of a carpet sample and is a good way to store your pins on the edges of the carpet

Jingle 06-28-2011 05:13 PM

Some great ideas, the sturdier table is the answer.

misscarol 06-28-2011 05:24 PM

I think you need a good ole' sturdy table. I have found it difficult to sew fast on those new white tables. Even though they are very heavy, give me one of those brown pressed board tables!!

Maia B 06-28-2011 05:31 PM

you need a Sturdier table, then use anything foamy, rubbery etc for a mat. Underlay for rugs, rubbery drawer liners, foam yoga/exercise mat, foam alphabet floor mats for kids...

Ann L 06-28-2011 05:32 PM

I think I have to agree with the table. Something more sturdy would work.

Deborahlees 06-28-2011 06:57 PM

I am using a very heavy old folding banquet table....
I can not go out and buy a new one (living on a fixed income) .....so I guess I will just try some different things under the machine and see what works....the answer is not always buy new....but perhaps fix the old.

A studier table will take care of the problem.

vickig626 06-29-2011 04:56 AM

My heavy Babylock does that on high speeds if I have it on a lighter-weight table. It's fine on my "desk" - hubby modified an old office desk and my machine sits down in it like those expensive tables.

My serger does the same thing if it's on a lighter-weight table.

scarlet14 06-29-2011 05:48 AM

try old mouse pads---I buy them at garage sales and put them under both the sewing machine and my serger---stops the walking too and makes them quieter

MissQuilter 06-29-2011 06:38 AM

Mine does that sometimes, and has started again the past few days. It usually goes away with a bit of cleaning and some oil. Maybe it is just protesting!

My table is the same all of the time, and the machine is bolted into it.... so it must be some other factor.

catrancher 06-29-2011 06:38 AM

I use non-skid shelf liner, the bumpy kind. It cushions the machine and keeps it from "walking".

GrammaBabs 06-29-2011 06:43 AM

We use the "mesh" rubber shelf line or any plastic shelf liner.... someone made me a mat the size of a table mat... fabric on top and "shelf rubber" on the bottome it sits under the machine... and drops in the front over the table.. it has pockets for keeping things... ie.. presser feet and stitch ripper, asssorted things...

http://sewing.craftgossip.com/tutori...on/2010/10/01/
This is somethng like it.. didn't read the tut, but just layer it with the shelf liner, and bind... hope this helps
I'm a "speed sewer" so i know what you mean by the jumping!!!!! ;)

marla 06-29-2011 07:10 AM

I have a sturdy table but it still will do the jumping on fast speeds. (not too bad tho) At the LQS a few yrs back, they were selling mats to go under the machine that had pockets in the front to hold scissors, etc. for conveinence.I remember there being heavy plastic in this item. The mat was supposed to keep the machine from shaking.
I would use those rubber shelf liners you can get at the dollor store.

quiltmom04 06-29-2011 07:17 AM

I think it's a table that's too flexible, not your machine. Set you machine on the floor and sew on some scrap fabric to see if it still jumps. If not, you know it's your table. Sometimes, just moving the machine closer to the leg of the table will help.

i was solving this problem by just sewing slower (BORING!!)...glad i am reading this thread...good ideas...will try some....thanks...

Yes, I am going to trying the bumpy shelf lining....maybe even two layers....

I have been doing this for a few years. I buy one of the mats and cut it up to fit the bottom of my sewing machines. Have one under my serger also. What was left of the mat is under my computer tower.

go to the local flooring store and one of their sample pieces that is bound all around the edges...they usually run about $2...place your machine on that...it really does work...great for those sewing classes where they use plastic tables....

two layers helped ....but did not solve problem....on to next suggestion....

The plastic table with the real wide lip are not as sturdy as the ones with the thinner lip. They are more sturdy. I use one for my machine & it is also against a wall.

this table is probably between 20-30 years old all wood and metal, the kind that took two men to move....

f rogers 06-29-2011 08:45 AM

my sewing machine did the same thing and I had my son in law built another top for my table out of mdf which is very dense and heavy and it made a very big difference. .

marla 06-29-2011 09:08 AM

I also use the rubber shelf liners for my foot pedal.
If you are using this under the machine, make sure it is positioned correctly. A wood table could be warped.

I had the same problem. I use the long table in my studio so that I can have one machine on each side of the table. So, my DH made a sturdy leg that is under the middle of the table. I also use a mat under the machine. Nothing fancy but it works.

grannypat7925 06-29-2011 09:25 AM

Get a stronger table. That one is to flimsy!

Iamquilter 06-29-2011 09:34 AM

I have a piece of left over carpet under my machine that I use at the cabin and works fine to keep machine stable.

That is what I do too. Works great.

A lot of it is the plastic banquet tables.
I use an old place mat that looks like the rubbermaid cabinet liner, works great. when needed one for surger that crawled, I got out the cabinet liner, cut what I needed. no more crawling.
