I love my shape cut. I also take it to quilt club because my fellow quilters are falling in love with it too.

About 5 years ago, I was taking a quilt class at my guild and it required a lot of strips. I saw someone using the June Taylor and voiced my decision to buy one. One of the girls in the class said "I have one at home...I never use it....do you want it"...I did, she gave it to me for free and I've used it on every quilt I've made since....it's wonderful.

And what's it called? I can't find one locally and might have to resort to ordering online. But I don't want to get the wrong one. I keep reading the descriptions but can't figure out for sure which is the one I want. Shape Cut Pro? Shape Cut Plus? So many shape cuts! It's confusing. :)

Joann has the shapecut plus on sale now for $19.99. It has the 1/4" on it. And it is 18"

I have 2 different styles of the June Tailor tools. I love them & have used them for strip cutting, cutting bias, & also fringe on fleece or rag quilts. Nancy zieman has a short video on cutting the fleece using this tool, which was faster then how I used to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSLBVCCuv6s.
Another review of these tools, where she suggests the best rotary cutter was the Fiskars 28mm for success with the slots. http://www.quiltersreview.com/articl...t/010709_a.asp

I forgot to mention you DO really need to be cutting straight upright not leaning off to one side with your rotary blade.

If you like tihs one and do any curves you might want to look at the one for circles and curves. It workes just as great!

June Taylor also markets a smaller one that has slots for 1/4"
cuts along eith the whole and ½" measurements.
I often use it for the subcuts once I have a strip cut. Makes it easier than working with the larger shape cut.

It is a great tool

nangars 04-10-2011 10:37 PM

The one I have has it set up every 1/2". I love that ruler.
It isn't the biggest, there is one bigger than the one I got.
I paid $50 plus there is another on bigger than that.

With all the positive remark about the JT cutting tool. I better get me one too. Sounds like it is one of those tools you need to be a good quilter (faster) and more accurate.

Thanks for all the comments. It sure helps when you are wondering if its worth the $.

I think you have to find the right place to ask the questions about quilting and tools. This is the place, I have found a lot of good help on here. From tools to machines. The people to ask are people that use the things
and not the people selling them.

I used mine for my strips, Jan. You can cut a bunch of 1 1/2" wof strips, then turn them and lay the wof strips side by side and cut the 6 1/2" pieces. Worked beautifully!

good for you! you really will wonder how you lived without it! I used to demonstrate it when I worked at Wal-mart sold 5-6 a week. like I said, it is the only tool I would fight you for!!!!!

Good for you for getting one and enjoying it!

My thought exactly. I just assumed it was a normal piece of quilting equipment. LOL
