Does anyone use this ruler to cut 2 1/2" strips? I am thinking of investing in one but wonder if it is as wonderful as the ads show it to be. Opinions, please!

ritamaew 05-13-2011 08:29 AM

Would never cut without this ruler. LOVE It

It's a great ruler for that job!

BellaBoo 05-13-2011 08:31 AM

I have it and use it for strips. I would suggest you practice with junk fabric first so you can see exactly how you need to line up the ruler so you won't get the v in the fold. For the price you can't beat it for strip cutting. It's very nice,

Painiacs 05-13-2011 08:32 AM

I looooove mine! Cuts from 1/4 inch and up! Can't cut without it!!

ann clare 05-13-2011 08:56 AM

I use it all the time and love it.

CoventryUK 05-13-2011 08:58 AM

This is the link to the ruler:

I saw a tutorial on the Eleanor Burns site and she was using one so I figure that if it is good enough for Eleanor Burns, it's good enough for me.

Definitely use the coupon! My LQS sold them for $42, but with Joanne's coupon I got one for $14.00

Little RoO 05-13-2011 12:10 PM

I bought the June Tailor shape plus....cuts every 1/2" but measures from the 1/4", raved about it the day I got it and am still raving about it...cut all my straight lines with it...simply brilliant !

Bluphrog 05-13-2011 12:48 PM

I love my Shape Cut. I have the one that is 12" wide and has the slits at 1/2" intervals. That way, you can cut any size strips, not just 2-1/2" wide. There is also a Shape Cut that is 18" wide with slits at 1/2" intervals.

My JoAnn's has the 12" wide. I just Googled it and Amazon.com has them at very good prices.

GagaSmith 05-13-2011 12:56 PM

I use it all the time and love it. I got mine at Joann's with a 50% off coupon. I think the regular price is $24.99 or $29.99.

It's $39.95 at Michaels here in St. John's. So I really need to get it on sale or next week with a coupon.

SnowQuilt 05-13-2011 02:25 PM

I have one and I love it. You don't have to keep moving the ruler to cut the strips. :)

mltquilt 05-13-2011 03:09 PM

Have been using one for quite awhile and love it. Have the 12 in and the 18 in one. Just make sure you cut at the correct mark. Have ended up with a few that were 2" instead of 2 1/2.

mzzzquilts 05-13-2011 03:59 PM

I got mine at JoAnns with a coupon about 6 months ago. I've been so busy reading the quilting board and haven't used it yet, but it sure looks like I'm gonna love it!

Dolphyngyrl 05-13-2011 04:01 PM

Its my number one ruler, one of my faves

quiltinghere 05-13-2011 04:10 PM

Love it! Just used it last night to cut 2" x 1/2" card stock to make new labels for my files. Quick and easy!

roseOfsharon 05-13-2011 04:19 PM

Are you speaking of the June Taylor cutting ruler that cuts all different size cuts? I have this and just love it!

roseOfsharon 05-13-2011 04:20 PM

Hmmmmm, I am thinking it is a ruler? I don't have that.

Love it for strips, but even more for 2 1/2 squares. Cut, turn the ruler and cut again. Instant large quantity of squares.

AudreyB 05-13-2011 08:18 PM

I have four sizes and use them all. Hatge to cut without one.

Jim 05-13-2011 08:49 PM

I love mine...I bought my first one 17 yrs ago...just bought a new one recently because I got it on sale 1/2 off to have when my other wears out...its my favorite quilting tool

Charming 05-13-2011 09:01 PM

Ok so i must have done something wrong when i used it. I bought one last year and the blades just wouldn't slide right in the slots, so got frustrated and returned it. Any advise of what i did wrong or what i should do would be really appreciated.
Thanks all.

irishrose 05-13-2011 09:39 PM

If I'm pressing hard on the ruler to hold it in place, the slots seem tight. I just go to the edge where it has a wider opening and bring the ruler through from there.

Yes, JoAnn's carries the June Tayler Shape Cut - I got mine 40% off w/ coupon. I use it often.

Someone suggested putting a little dot sticker at the points where you want to cut, so you don't make that mistake. I made the same error first time I got in a hurry with it. I think putting tape across the bottom edge & just a black sharpie dot would work as well.

I do like cutting strips with mine & got it at Walmart years ago. Nancy Zieman has a tutorial on her website too; watch there.

As for avoiding the "Vee" at the fold, that is caused by not having your fabric folded on straight of grain first. It's not really an issue with the ruler, unless you are cutting fabric in the teardrop area. I have the long model & so the fabric starts & ends in the straight section, with only one fold on the WOF.
