Which one are you all getting for $16? There is the Shape Cut, Shape Cut Plus, Shape Cut Too & Shape Cut Pro and some others that I've only seen online. I would like Shape Cut Pro if it had the 1/4" slots like the Shape Cut Plus & Too but it appears to only do 2.5/5/7.5/9/11.5, etc which is ok for a lot of things but not all that I want it to do.

texas granny 09-06-2010 06:49 PM

I think it works really well. It makes it faster to cut stripes

Dee Dee 09-07-2010 04:13 AM

OK, now I'm confused (doesn't take much to confuse me). :) If I am purchasing one general purpose Shape Cut ruler to cut large strips, which Shape Cut is the best for me to start with? I'd like to buy at Joann's today to get their sale price.

They seem to put the notions and/or rotary cutting implements on sale about once a month or so, so I decided to keep watching this thread. I have an Alto Quilt Cut 2 which I need to use more often so if the Shape Cut doesn't give me at least 1/2 inch slots and preferably 1/4 inch slots in a large ruler; I'll save my money even if it is on sale. I realize I could just move the ruler to make it line up at the measurement I want but moving the ruler defeats the whole purpose of keeping everything all lined up and faster strip cutting.

Grinster 09-07-2010 06:28 AM

When I use mine I cannot keep the cuts straight, the fabric or template seems to slide. Help!

Dee Dee 09-07-2010 08:57 AM

You are right. Their notions are on sale frequently.

Oh Dear! Do others have that problem with it sliding?

Which Shape Cut is the best all purpose, and best one to start with?

Dee Dee 09-08-2010 02:37 PM

Thanks for the info! It seems like I would use the larger one more.

I love my shape cut. I wish a got a commission on them. When I teach a class and the students see how quick and easy there are to use they get one too. I use it so much I have to think twice about how to use my other rulers. LOL

OHSue 09-08-2010 03:19 PM

I have used mine enough that the keyhole part where you insert the rotary cutter has been chewed up by my carelessness. I use it way more than I thought I would and am thinking about getting the bigger one. I took a workshop with Eleanor Burns several years ago and asked her how she cut the strips she gave us for the workshop and she said they used these.

jljack 09-08-2010 03:36 PM

I want one...I want one!!!  No foolin'....I'll be going to Joann's this weekend to get one.

Matilda 09-08-2010 06:29 PM

You are welcome Dee Dee. I have to wait a couple of weeks to get one but I am looking forward to getting and using one. I didn't realize all the different shapes could be cut until I saw the video. I thought it was just straight cuts.

knlsmith 09-09-2010 12:22 AM

I love love love mine. Especially for fat quarters, but I use all size of cuts up to and ove a yard. I use our deep freezer for a cutting table so I've got lots of room.

cheryl222 09-09-2010 05:32 AM

I have both and use all the time. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they made as long as folded fabric it. I would snatch that up so fast!

BKrenning 09-09-2010 06:29 AM

I think I'm more confused now than I was when this thread started. Comments like "I have the large one" or "I have both" or "I wish it was as long as folded fabric" don't make sense to me. There are many different sizes of the Shape Cut and the slots that you put your rotary cutter in to make the cuts are different widths apart depending on which model you have. It would be very helpful for me if the specific model is stated. Here's the list with MSRP of the June Tailor general purpose rulers:

JT-777 Shape Cut™ Pro Ruler
$64.20

JT-783 Fancy Fleece™ Ruler
$31.99

JT-789 Fringe Cut™ Ruler
$31.99

Dresden Express™ Ruler

JT-790 Dresden Express™ 16 Ruler
$14.49

JT-791 Dresden Express™ 12 Ruler
$16.59

JT-792 Mini Fringe Cut™ Ruler
$16.99

JT-793 Shape Cut™ Too
$27.89

JT-794 Quarter Cut™
$36.39

JT-795 Precision Quilting Rule™
$13.89

JT-796 Shape Cut™
$33.49

JT-797 Shape Cut™ Plus
$38.99

JT-799 Diamond Cut -
A Girl's Best Friend Ruler
$19.29

Notice all the different models of the Shape Cut. And there is one that is the length of folded yardage--the Shape Cut Pro which interests me but the slots are spaced at 2.5 inch intervals. Great if you're cutting your own jelly rolls, charms & layer cakes but not log cabin strips or 9" 9 patches. I would like one the size of the "Pro" but with slots that are only 1/2 inch apart and 1/4 inch would be better.

Also, I have had a ruler that wasn't marked accurately. Has anyone measured their Shape Cut against a known good tape measure for accuracy?

eightylady 09-09-2010 07:07 AM

Is there a certain size rotary cutter that must be used with the shape cut ruler?

cheryl222 09-09-2010 07:16 AM

I use any cutter, but the 45mm is a litttle easier than the 60mm one.

cheryl222 09-09-2010 07:20 AM

The shape cut is the one that cuts in 1/2" increments. There is a smaller one (about half the size) that cuts 1/4".n I got both at Joanns with 40% off coupon. The shape cut will cut fabric across the grain if it is folded in half . That is how I use it all the time.. The shape cut I am talking about is the third one over on this page. I didn't see the smaller one but didn't look too hard. I know Joanns carries them.
