Don't know exactly what it is. Seller said it was a 66-16 but he knew nothing about sewing.
Serial #G9937778 It was his great-grandmother's and said it was a 1923. Any info will be appreciated |
What a beauty.

It's a model 66 with a Red Eye/Red head decal. A red eye was my very first vintage machine. I had seen one on this forum and thought it was so-o-o beautiful!!! Beware, though, if this is your first vintage machine it won't be your last!!!
If you want to clean her up make sure you don't use any harsh cleaning chemicals on her paint or you will turn the decals to silver    . A wonderful thing to use is regular old sewing machine oil. Rub it on with your fingers, let it sit for a while and then wipe it off with a soft cloth or cotton balls. Afterward you can use a good quality car paste wax (without pumice) to protect her. For her metal parts I use a product called Maas Metal Polish. What a difference you will see! Very pretty!! Congrats on your new baby!

Congrats! What a wonderful, beautiful machine. (She looks like my 66-16, Red Eye.) There is a free online Singer site that will validate age and model by the serial #. I don't have the link anymore, but you can Google it.

I would be thrilled to pieces to find such a beautiful set of decals on a Red Eye. Just beautiful! Hope you have fun with it! :)
|
Now I'm really happy. I've named her Elsie, after the seller's great-grandmother. I thought that would be appropriate. She works too! Just need to clean and probably take her into the shop for a check up. The case is a brown faux alligator and in pretty good shape.

Here is a blog that is really helpful in learning about your vintage machines:
http://vssmb.blogspot.com/ (Vintage Singer Sewing Machine blogspot.com) He just started it this past summer but his pictures and instructions are wonderful. Have you seen the wonderful tutorials and vintage sewing machine section of this forum, yet? You will learn so-o-o much by reading the posts. To find the Vintage Sewing Machine section just go to the Main Page and scroll down close to the bottom and you should find it down there. Be very careful, though, there are a bunch of enablers that hang out there  Pretty soon you will be finding and bringing home a bunch of orphaned vintage sewing machines!! |
She is a beauty!

Wow! She sure is pretty! :)
|
What a lovely machine!!! Someone kept this one up with a lot of love.
|
That's amazing, I will have to get some. Do you know why it's called a Red Eye? Is it because some of the red decals resemble an eye? Just wondering.

It is indeed a Redeye. And you are VERY lucky that is is side clamping because you can use most any modern low shank feet.
