Just bought an acuquilt go... yikes!!!

I just spent $200 on an acuquilt go cutter. I soooo hope I don't regret it. My husband talked me into buying it. I work 50+ hours a week so hopefully this will allow me to make more quilts.

Does anybody know if they make a die 1-1/2" squares or do you use the strips then cut them????
Any hints on using it would be great.
Thank you,
Judy

I also bought one this past weekend. I really want to use the strip dies. I have not taken mine out of the box yet.

lizzyq 11-28-2011 06:17 PM

That's on my Christmas/Birthday list. I can't wait for the 21st and/or 25th. The first new die I get will be the 2 1/2" strip cutter!

dublb 11-28-2011 06:19 PM

I love mine! I use my 2 1/2" strip cutter a-lot. I also used the tumbler block die for my tumbler block terry cloth quilt back. (Don't use terry cloth!) I plan on using the applique dies I have as soon as I get past the projects I have going. (9 or more WIPs going now)

They do make a 1.5" die for the Studio. I'm not sure which machine you have, you can always use the live chat feature and ask an employee on their website.

Lucky you. Enjoy your new toy. I so want one and I'm hoping Santa will get the hint. LOL

lyndaloo 11-28-2011 07:33 PM

I've had mine since January; I use it a lot and I love it! I think you will, too!

Jerudy 11-28-2011 07:45 PM

I just got the baby go, I want to use it for the applique shapes. I hope I'm not going to regret not getting the go-cutter.

KerryK 11-28-2011 08:16 PM

Enjoy it! I love to take my DH shopping with me. He'll always spend more than I will. Bless his sweet heart!

mighty 11-28-2011 08:31 PM

I have the go cutter I love it.

teddysmom 11-29-2011 04:40 AM

You'll love the way the pieces come out--all straight and ready to fit nicely to the next piece. It takes a little practice to learn how to cut and not waste material. But, you'll get the hang of it!

SueDor 11-29-2011 05:03 AM

Watch the video's on youtube ( Ebony Love and Accuquilter.) They are very helpful!

BellaBoo 11-29-2011 09:02 AM

I think you got a great value! I paid over $1000 for my Go and all the dies when it first was available to buy about 4 years ago. I don't regret it one bit. I saved that much in not having fabric waste. I sewed my scraps together and re cut using different shape dies. I have all the dies except a few baby shape applique ones.

Shankquilt 11-29-2011 10:00 AM

You will love the Go. I just purchased the studio. I don't have many dies yet but what I have I love. If others have studios--what dies did you purchase first?

patski 11-29-2011 10:25 AM

I have the accuquilt cutter and usse it lots and lots! Go on ebay and you can often get what you need new or gently used! Joanns never lets you use your coupons on those! Your hubby is sooo smart, you really will save fabric

I have the sizzix and bought a ton of dies both sizzix and go dies for it....I'm most excited about the puppy die, Dresden, hex and the strips!!!!!

Tootsie 11-29-2011 11:41 AM

Have lots of fun with it! I have the Go! Baby and it really does a nice job in cutting accurately; also makes sewing easier and more accurate. There are lots of groups and blogs related to the Accuquilt with great tips and patterns.

baslp 11-29-2011 12:50 PM

How can we find the accuquilt groups?

Surfergirl 11-29-2011 01:56 PM

Congrats on your go cutter...I would love to have one!

ann31039 11-29-2011 06:29 PM

just remember that the handle will be hard at first. it will "break in" and get easier, so don't get aggravated

quiltpd 11-29-2011 06:54 PM

Yep, I bought one this weekend too. Can't believe I broke down and did it ! Still in box waiting for me to finish the Christmas stockings I'm working on.

You will really enjoy it! Just remember about the handle being stiff at first but it will loosen up as you use it.

Chele 11-30-2011 04:37 AM

Have fun with your new toy!

anniesews 11-30-2011 04:53 AM

New dies keep coming out. If it isn't already here I think it would be soon.

pflum1 11-30-2011 05:05 AM

I've had the "Go" for a couple years and really like it. I have found you can get a router mat at the hardware store and put under it and then it stays in place better. That is the only thing I didn't like as it would move as your turned the crank. Also, you can use cheap typing paper on top of the fabric if the fabric wants to move. I have most of the dies except for baby things and use the strip dies the most. I love the feather, heart and circle dies for applique.

Geri B 11-30-2011 07:25 AM

I have had mine for almost a year now and I have accumulated many of the dies........they really do save time in cutting and if you plan correctly you lose very little fabric.....worth the time and effort it saves and the accuracy cannot be beat. There are several yahoo groups for die cutters-one of which also is a dealer with VERY GOOD discount....check it out....and have fun!!!!!

rrstray 11-30-2011 07:48 AM

Congrats I am sure you will love it! I got one in June and I just love it!

quiltingnonie 11-30-2011 08:21 AM

For 1 1/2" squares, cut strips first, then turn them sideways and run them thru again. Works great! I love mine - and have had it a year. The only dies I have so far are strips - 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2". I felt that those would be the ones I would use the most - makes short work for Log Cabin quilts!

walkswithwolves 11-30-2011 08:37 AM

Judy,
You will love it. My eyesight is not the best anymore, and trying to cut stright lines was not working for me, but with the acuquit my pieces are all the same now and it is great.

Great free patterns from accuquilt!

I purchased the die set that makes 12" blocks and the mix and match book that has patterns that only uses those dies so that you don't have to do any other cutting of shapes OR wishing for other dies just to finish a pattern.

http://www.accuquilt.com/mix-match-q...uquilt-go.html

BUT I purchased my die set from sewnvac online because it was cheaper and they have coupons

nannyrick 11-30-2011 09:36 AM

You are going to love this. I use mine all the time and
it is such a time saver.

IBQLTN 11-30-2011 10:34 AM

I bought mine over labor day weekend when they were $199. The first die I used was the large tumbler block. Even though I rotated all around it literally wore out my mat. I e-mailed Accu-Quilt and they sent me a new one! You can't ask for better service than that! This time my mat is marked 1-2-3-4 on one side and a - b - c - d on the other side so I can be positive I run the mat through all eight positions.

I bought some dies at 25% off at JoAnns but the strip dies I'm getting from sew n vac because they are so much cheaper. Even with the 25% off at JoAnns it is more than purchasing and paying for shipping with sew n vac. (No affiliation)

kjym 11-30-2011 12:01 PM

I just printed out a list of the dies. and I don't see a 1-1/2 square just a 1-1/2 sq. triangle. But I got a new e-mail and they have alot of new dies. also if you go to www.shoppersrule.com they have a 15 % off sale going on the dies. Also you give them a price you want to pay and if they accept you get it at that price. If they don't they will come back with the price they well take. this is where I get all my dies.
I have had my go for about 3 years and I really love it . it's great for those odd shapes that are buggers to cut.
I just ordered more dies like I really need them Hee Hee it's my Christmas present to me for me. kjym
