I had a piece of fabric that I couldn't cut until the perfect pattern presented itself. When I saw that pattern, the ONLY fabric I would have used was the "special" one.

I agree, its not meant to be cut but used in its entirety and the linked pattern PP provided is the ideal way to do that. You could vary the border designs to suit you..but that is a really great way to "preserve" a beautiful piece of fabric. It would be diminished, literally, to cut it into pieces.

Oh my! Yes, I can see why you cannot bear to take a cutter to it. I wish I could show you a picture of a quilt a friend made using 1 meter of spectacular fabric. She cut a wide-ish strip for the center, then added a black strip on either side. The next strips of the focus fabric were slightly narrower and slightly shorter and the another black strip on each side. She continued this way and finally ended with a large black border. The quilt is absolutely striking and the focus fabric is dazzling. I could see something like that with your fabric. I honestly would not hide it on the back of a quilt.

I have just become the proud owner of 3--yes three!!--pieces of original Laurel Burch fabric. They are the cats, the cat border and the horses. I am very loathe to cut into them. I think I will have to fondle them for a while too.

You could also use your fabric in a special handbag or tote - would show it off really nicely I think.

There is actually a book by that same name - "Just Can't Cut It" by Pamela Mostek. It gives several patterns to showcase those fabrics that a just TOO PRETTY TO CUT. I bought my copy 2nd hand from one of my guild members.

OneByOne, that's a sad story about your guild member. Definitely a lesson to us all. Just one more thing on my never-ending to-do list.

I agree a great pattern for can't cut it up fabrics.

I have some fabrics I don't want to cut up. More than likely big enough for backings for my full to queen size quilts I make for us. I will use at least two as I have to more quilts for us planned for 2018. Thanks for the ideas.

I once took a class from Diane Ericson. Her house had flooded a couple months before this class. She was saying how she had several pieces of fabric she was saving for the perfect project that were ruined in the flood. She told everyone that if they had a favorite fabric to use it and make some out of it. You never know when you might lose it.
