Good luck with your problem. Have the same thing happen. My is having headaches all the time. Can' think, can't see colors right,and an assortment of other things. Sewed for almost most of my life. Sixty years and here I'm whining about not being able to do something simple as quilt. But like most things I push on and things will get done. I stick to simple patterns because it is easier to accomplish. When I'm feeling good I go for the gold. All things pass. Check your health, then your way of thinking. One may be good but the other may need organizing. Isn't that what we do as quilters?

And it will get used one way or another!

I have only been quilting maybe 2 years. I think I have made around 8 tops and only finished 3. :thumbdown: I don't have any problem buying, it's using it. I really stocked up about a year ago because Sis and I worked at the same place. We knew the way things were going we were not going to be their much longer and would have plenty of time to quilt. Well, she no longer works and I'm on an LOA and was told by the Dr. that I can't work anymore. So here is the "time" and I'm not doing anything. Sis and I share our fabric unless we have something for a specific project. That works out good. Only thing is, she gets things done and I don't. Sis says she is out of room for more fabric but is more then willing to buy more :? I'm the one that keeps telling her we need to stop. Hopefully this week will be more productive. :thumbup:

I know one way or another she WILL get all the fabric used and by the time I get going I'll have to buy more. Better yet maybe I'll just take the things she makes! It is 1/2 my fabric after all. :twisted:

BTW-cizzors is Sis

Sometimes I have this too - then I read the Quilting Board, and get a little incentive, then dig out a few UFS's and just hang them on the design wall - knowing eventually inspiration will come to finish somthing off. If you'r worried about wasting fabric, check out the disappearing 9 patch images, they would probably work great for you, and to me, all look great!

Go to your local Barnes & Noble, get a latte and flip through a bunch of quilting magazines. That always motivates me. Something will catch your eye. Or call a friend and make a small Project Linus quilt for charity with her. Sometimes we need companionship.

I can identify with you. They blamed my inability to move on menopause, depression, diabetes, vascular problems, etc. I find that if I do something, anything for 15 minutes, then I am one step closer to accomplishing the goal. If all you do is pick a few fabrics, press them and lay them on your cutting table, you can take the next step tomorrow. Do something with strips cut or a stack and whack. Chose something that doesn't take much thinking and as the others suggest, donate it to charity. I've decided my sewing room needs a small dorm fridge for wine and chocolate. Keep smiling!

Dingle, do you have a friend that can come over for a sew day at your house (other than your sister)? Sometimes I need that kind of motivation to get myself going. But sometimes I need to walk away from sewing/quilting for a bit before I can get my head back into it.

Spring is coming, maybe being outside for a bit will be good for you. In time, you'll be back in the sewing room. {{{hugs}}}

Am sorry to hear this. I, too, went through this for 1 1/2 years. Just now starting to get back in the swing of it. I love my quilting and sewing but had hit a dry spell. It will pass. Hang in there.

Try making a scrappy quilt using a wedge ruler and sew the scraps together in opposite directions one after another in long strips. You can make the wedges small, medium or large depending on how large you want the quilt to be. I saw them make this quilt on a Fon's & Porter TV show and went right out and bought the wedge ruler. (You can use a dresden plate ruler also) This is a perfect quilt to make when you want something easy to make and you have two yards of a bunch of colors that will compliment each other. Then you just sew the long strips of wedges together using a small narrow sashing in between the vertical rows and finish it off with any kind of border. It's simple, easy, fast and fun!! PM me if you want more details!!

I am going through the same thing myself. I am really struggling to get projects done. I feel somewhat overwhelmed as I have lots of patterns/fabric/sewing machines (2) and a serger with lots of time as I am retired. I think some of it has to do with the weather. I am just going to clean up my sewing room and reorganize it and take a break to work out in the yard as the weather here is beginning to warm up. I find hand embroidery (a simple pattern) helps, making me feel like I am doing something.

I'm just getting out of the slump - it was caused by having t take apart a bunch of blocks for a community quilt after finding a
2 1/2" difference in width and length, I just couldn't get to it. the blocks are difficult, one length of the diagonal similar, the side parts are mirror images, lots of bias pieces, so not easy on the dyslexia!! I got to it little by little, now all the blocks are almost even. I'll have to compensate a bit in the sashing, and maybe with borders. The blocks are set on the point and I have to cut triangular 1/2 blocks to fit between the outer blocks so that makes it more difficult for me - have never done on the point blocks before. I decided that the outer edge of the triangles would be more stable if cut on the width of grain, so they are probably, tho the plainest feature, the most even and stable of the quilt. Sigh.... I agree with the chocolate therapy support method of re-starting!!
