PhotoShop is a wonderful tool!!!

lol wow !! everyone's house is tidy and well kept.. here is little ol me surrounded by dust bunnies !LOL
I would place it on the living room floor to take a picture and then worry about the dust bunnies trying to steal it for warmth this winter !LOL |
take it outside to do the pix..and then CROP the heck out of it..hehehe
|
You could always take your pictures outside?
|
Ho Ho Ho - that's why I hang mine on the clothes line outside to take pictures!
|
Guess why I hang my just-finished quilt on the clothes line outside to take pictures? My sewing room is a disaster scene when I've just finished a quilt. I clean it AFTER I've taken the picture and mailed the quilt to whomever. And it's always a last minute rush, because the wedding or birthday is tomorrow or the baby was born last month or ~ ~ ~ whatever. Whew! Of course I don't have time to clean BEFORE I take the picture.

What--you have to clean your sewing room? I thought they were supposed to be messy! :)
|
I try to find the cleanest spot.

My birthday was last week, hubby bought me a sign for my sewing room. I've got it sitting on the windowsill. It reads: "Organized People Are Just Too Lazy To Search For Things" |
Now you know why my pics were taken outside :)
|
Outside photos are best for lighting. I often ask my husband to hold the quilt up for a photo (though it may not hang straight at the bottom), or I lay the quilt on the floor & try to get the camera high enough and centered to get the whole picture without distortion. No perfect photos taken yet ; ) I'm always amazed how well people photograph their quilts as it's not that easy to do well.

My bedroom has so much clutter (mostly quilting related but admittedly some other stuff) that you would be really distracted from seeing the only thing I want you to look at. Since then, I have saved a few plastic pants hangers and put them on the quilts on them, then hang them from the cup hooks! Works perfect! Gives the quilts enough support since the hooks aren't very far apart and the hangers are about 6 inches long with two clips! The porch is usually fairly clean! I bugged him for awhile for a place to hang quilts and we just couldn't figure anything else out, so this works fine. Course with the larger quilts, you don't see the wire fence at the bottom of the porch! You can see the hangers in this picture. |
I use to have a spotless house. I worked very long hours and wasn't home much. Then..........I started dating my future, wonderful DH, and things have changed a lot. After being married almost 13 years and two cats later, I need a cleaning crew daily. I'm sorry to say that doesn't happen. My sewing room is usually a mess. When I clean it up the cats think they can help me sew and lay on the sewing table lol.

I take pictures in my living room. It is always neat and tiddy because we hardly ever use it and it has a big floor to lay the quilt out on.

clean before a pic ? are you kidding and take time away from sewing ? nah
|
My sewing area is a mess most of the time but I do keep the area around my design baord clean for the most part since that is where I take my photos.
|
I don't worry how my sewing studio looks, it is there for me to be creative in. Clean it up at least twice a year!!!!!!!!!!!
|
That's why I take pictures of things to post outside. LOL
Besides there is all that critter hair to get on anything that leaves the sewing room. |
I use the living or dining room for pics. Those two rooms aren't cluttered because we don't use them very much. Maybe I should remodel and turn those areas into a quitting studio! Hubby would flip if I suggested it though!

My dear you are definitely NOT alone. I live with my daughter and her family and we don't have an 'extra" room for anything so my sewing is set up in the dining room (thank goodness we don't have a lot of company) My DGD and I share a 4x8 table with the 2 machines set up on it. Believe me there is not 1 square inch that isn't covered with material, thread, scissors, pins and whatever else we can manage. So any pictures that will be taken are taken in the living room...

I was thinking of taking a photo of a quilt/bedspread I have to show you, and realized that I don't have a bed big enough to put it on. Then I considered laying it out on the living room floor. I suspected that having four dachshunds claiming spots might be distracting, especially with me trying to chase them off of it. I don't have a clothesline.
Next time four people come over on a sunny day, lol........ |
Just crop the pic like most of us do!

Gee, my husband spent 4 years in the Air Force, his mother was a cleaning nut/freak, and yet he leaves most of the cleaning up to me, even though I have severe arthritis in my back, hips, knees and ankles, that I do things one handed, as I need to lean on my cane for balance. Oh well. He's not going to change after almost 43 years, so I'm not holding my breath. The problem I have is that my sewing area is in my bedroom, so I have to clean off my bed after sewing because it is the only place to put things on when I'm sewing other than a small area on a table where I have my rotary cutter mat.

I just take pictures where you cannot see anything but walls. I really love the quilts staged outside. |
