who has to do a major job of tidying a room before taking a picture of a quilt to post on this board?

My bedroom has so much clutter (mostly quilting related but admittedly some other stuff) that you would be really distracted from seeing the only thing I want you to look at.

alikat110 08-30-2011 06:59 PM

Of course you are. My house is spotless, 'cause I never spend too much time on this board, or piecing quilts!!!!

Since I cleaned and organized my sewing room early this summer, I have kepted it pretty clean so now I don't have that problem.

Wow! You and I must be related. heeheehee

daisyboo9 08-30-2011 07:08 PM

No big deal just throw it on the floor and be creative with the angle of the picture you take!

lheizen 08-30-2011 07:08 PM

always

LeeAnn 08-30-2011 07:08 PM

I feel your pain. :)

erstan947 08-30-2011 07:09 PM

I do my best to crop out all non quilt items in my photos:)

Wine Woman 08-30-2011 07:10 PM

I think we all can relate! We have so much needed things for quilting, crafts and things for life in general! I can't work in an area that there is too much out in the open. I spend too much time looking for the things I need. I installed Ikea shelves in the closet and shelves in the room with glass doors where all my material is housed. But I have a problem of dropping everything I have in my hands (since there is an open space)and thinking I'll get to it later. I spend more time clearing off the table tops to work on and waisting to much precious time. It doesn't matter what your room looks like so long as it works for you! We understand and looking at the beautiful quilt is all we want! Don't let it bother you-just show us all the beautiful quilts! :D :D :D

lynnsim 08-30-2011 07:10 PM

I normally take photos of my quilts on my sofa in the den and that's the cleanest room in the house.

Murphy 08-30-2011 07:11 PM

We all stage it to look like we are spotless housekeepers (laughter). You are definitely not alone!!

bluteddi 08-30-2011 07:13 PM

I haul mine upstairs.... DH is a cleaning fanitic.. so I just keep my sewing room door closed and take pics in the rooms he keeps clean...... smile.... Thank you US NAVY!! made him a cleaning , organzised person!

slstitcher 08-30-2011 07:21 PM

I don't care what's in the background. I'm just thrilled to see the quilt pics posted.

Maia B 08-30-2011 07:23 PM

You are NOT alone :)

Maride 08-30-2011 07:23 PM

Open the photo first in a photo manager and crop it. Spend that time making another one.

Dolphyngyrl 08-30-2011 07:41 PM

tidying, whats that, no my house looks extremely lived in

starshine 08-30-2011 07:53 PM

You are not the only one, but don't ask how I know.;-)

GiddyUpGo 08-30-2011 08:53 PM

That's what Photoshop is for! LOL. By the way it's also great for getting rid of double chins and improving bad hair days. Haha!

Bonbonary 08-30-2011 09:27 PM

I always consider the background, but I'm happy to "crop" the picture if necessary.

connie_1936 08-30-2011 09:50 PM

agree with daisy, the floor

Becky Crafts 08-31-2011 12:05 AM

I take my pics outside because I can't get far enough from them for a decent pic inside. Just too small an area.

carolaug 08-31-2011 12:35 AM

A great modivator for cleaning...My other modivator is when I know I am having company...boy I can whip this place in shape fast. All I have to do is put away my fabric and sewing stuff...

Diane on Summit 08-31-2011 01:07 AM

Just take a close up, or bring it outside and hang it over a rail. And most of us have something we'd prefer doesn't make it into the picture, so relax! You are not alone.

sewmuchmore 08-31-2011 03:38 AM

Been there and still do that

emerald46 08-31-2011 03:49 AM

I don't visit friends to check their housekeeping skills...same here...just want to see the quilts!

Krystyna 08-31-2011 04:24 AM

Count me in as a member of the clutter club, but not for long. As we were getting ready to evacuate for Irene, I looked around and thought, this looks like the hurricane has already been through here! We were safe and untouched, but when I visited neighbors who were without power, I couldn't help but notice how tidy their homes were. So ... yesterday I started a major clean up and toss out. The curtains and blinds came down and got washed along with the windows. I actually threw out my sofa and rug and the coffee table which seems to serve only as a catch all for junk. I am determined to have a tidy and clutter free home, little by little!

katyquilter 08-31-2011 04:25 AM

Funny - I started taking my photos outside on the deck so I wouldn't have to clear a space inside :D :D :D

nanac 08-31-2011 04:40 AM

If anyone else is like me, the ONLY thing I notice is the quilt. I don't care about what's in the background or if it's "messy". The quilt police have been permanently retired from my house :)

tmg 08-31-2011 04:41 AM

I am the same way. DH can't stand it he will tidy up for me. The bad thing is I don't work outside the home. I will have my sewing stuff pulled out and it is all over the house. I gave up my sewing room so my DD'S could have their own rooms.

fudge and furs 08-31-2011 05:01 AM

Rarely take pictures, My camera isn't very "quilt friendly" However when I do, I blow up my air mattress on top of the dining room table, cover the mattress with quilt and snap. Pretty easy to do, my dining room is small but has nice walls and curtains.

jitkaau 08-31-2011 05:10 AM

I'm having a flat inspection on Monday and so have started now...still can't find enough places to hide everything. Non -quilters don't understand...

Charleen DiSante 08-31-2011 05:15 AM

Yes, in any photo I take the area always has to be 'staged', maybe even a white sheet covering the all important stuff. :{

Isn't that why they invented the crop thingy so we could cut out all of our mess?? That's what I use it for. :-)

ree-nee 08-31-2011 05:32 AM

The only way my room stays orderly is if I stay out of it.
Needless to say it is messy again.

  I agree with her! (where's the pic of the person ROFL ????)

LyraJean 08-31-2011 05:43 AM

What is this clean you speak of? Which reminds me I have to clean today.

ckp11271 08-31-2011 05:58 AM

lol! I actually use my daughter's bedroom to take my quilt pics - she's only 10, and already a far better housekeeper than her mom. :)

oklady 08-31-2011 06:09 AM

I read somewhere that you should always keep a Get Well card out where it can be seen and unexpected company will think that is the reason you haven't cleaned!
