Your dog looks like our dog! She loves to be covered up in a quilt. Has to lay on the edges when I am binding. What is your dog and what is his/her name? Ours is German Short Hair Pointer and Black Lab! Apparently the farmer had a short hair for pheasant and a lab for ducks and they met - short romance, but we have one of their eleven offspring - Bess is nine years old now and we love her dearly!!!!! haven't seen Fabric in either of the "local" Walmarts yet, but we do have fabric in the ones in next town's = when I go that way, I always check to see what they have.

I will have to ask at my WM. Never heard about this before.

The walmart closest to me is an hour ride one way. When in Show Low, AZ I check out how the fabric dept is doing. We never lost ours, just had a dramatic downsizing. There are more fabrics, sewing machines, pylon, fat quarters for 97 cents. Bundles of 1 yd fabric....it seems to have shaped up. While not as large, it is better then what they had

I had gone over to our local WalMart to pick up a fabric that I needed for the contrasting fabric for the mini bow tuck I want to make. While I was there I got in a conversation with the Dept. Manager. She was telling me she has two pallets of $1.50-$3.00 fabrics coming in soon. She also said when she ordered she told the person that she has a large number of quilters who shop there so include fabric good for quilting. She's a quilter so she told them cotton's. So I will keep checking back to see what happens.
I don't know if other stores are going to be doing this, I just know this store is. I really like this new dept. manager. When she orders fabrics she trys to order a number of fabrics in collections because of the quilters. She just got a denim look collection of fabrics in and they look nice, don't feel bad either. |

The Walmart closest to me closed their fabric center and just carries FQs and charm packs, occasionally a few 2 yrd packs, but not impressed.
I will keep oredering on-line or traveling to the closest fabric shop...... I live in an area where there are lots of quilters who have the same feelings about Wal-Mart in general and especially their fabric departments... |
Unfortunately not all Walmarts will have it at that price if they have fabrics. Within a 50 mile radius of me there are probably about half a dozen or more Walmarts and some still do not have fabrics. Ours has never lost there fabric department and although you can sometimes find some decent fabric the price is to high for a Walmart at almost $7 a yard for the so called good stuff and what I would not buy because of thinness is at $3.95 to $5.95 a yard.
Now in a neighboring town another Walmart has a small complement of fabrics but it is of better quality and at a better price with about $5.95 a yard for the good stuff and you can find the rest at anywhere's from $2.50 a yard on up. I have gotten lucky and bought whole bolts at $1.50 a yard which is good quality on rare occassions. The last such bolt I purchased is high end artist fabric that retails for about $28 a yard in high end fabric stores. I can however go down the street from this Walmart at the LQS and buy high end fabric at about $6.98 and up a yard. They also put the same fabric on sale tables at $2.98 a yard or $3.49 a yard when they want to make room for new stuff coming in so I do buy alot of my fabric there. Even the high end fabric which I have not seen over $8.98 a yard is still cheap considering national stores like JoAnns and Hancocks sell a lesser quality at $12.98 on up. We no longer have a dollar a yard or two dollars a yard at our local Walmart. I've also noticed that the quality of even their almost $7 a yard is not as good a quality as I can find at our LQS which they sell for about $3.98 a yard. |

I know the fabric we get in for that price isn't all that great nor usually good for quilting. A lot of it is hand wash only and comes from 'unknown fabric". I usually help my dept mgr order the fabric and try my best to get collections etc as much as I can for the quilters.
I'd love to know what company the mgr there is ordering from. So we could also. I work in the fabric dept of our WM. Phyllis QuiltingGrannie Quilter's Pantry |
i live in n.e.miss. and our walmart (a small one) quit the fabric and most sewing stuff..have to drive over 30mi one way to find one that does sell fabric...some of walmart fabric is suitable for quilting, but their price for it is still within the 4-5 dollar a yard or more for it..their cheaper stuff is just that-pretty bad and also from china..make a habit of checking the bolt end for fabric content, care, price, and where the fabric originated from. if you do find fabric you like and it is from china be sure to wash it before sewing or wearing garment...the fabric is treated with chemicals so that it endures the time and travel in shipping container it comes in before hitting the docks and stores.
