I made this jacket for my Mom. Bought a jelly roll from Connecting Threads that looked like it was perfect with the pansy fabric that I had.
I didn't have a lot of the pansy and needed to do this pretty quick, so I didn't take the time to audition each and every fabric.
This is not very blended is it? I think that the yellow has taken over. I even stippled in a purple thread to calm down the yellow, but it still is too bright. I have it hanging next to the computer and I almost feel the need to have my sunglasses on.
(having trouble adding the photo)

Cyn 12-23-2010 07:30 PM

picture?

amma 12-23-2010 07:31 PM

Can you add some floral appliques to tone down the yellow? :D:D:D

dakotamaid 12-23-2010 07:31 PM

Pic? Am I just too eager to see it or what? I'll wait a minute.

Can you see it Amma?

Gosh dang it, I timed that photo, it took 10 minutes to show up in my browser!!!

I think it looks cute the way it is. :):)

BellaBoo 12-23-2010 07:34 PM

Bright colors are very stylish now. Older women look terrific in bright colors but so few wear them. I bet you Mom gets lots of compliments when she wears the jacket.

bjnicholson 12-23-2010 07:36 PM

I love it. Maybe the pics aren't as bright as real life...

lindy 12-23-2010 07:37 PM

I love it!

luckylindy333 12-23-2010 07:38 PM

I love it!

gypsyquilter 12-23-2010 07:39 PM

I like it too, and can definitely see my mom wearing it - with a yellow scarf to match!

Dina 12-23-2010 07:40 PM

I see pansies standing out more than the yellow. I think you may have just worked with it too long. Let it sit and look at it again tomorrow.

Dina 12-23-2010 07:41 PM

And then, what is wrong with yellow? Nice cheerful color.

Sadiemae 12-23-2010 07:41 PM

If it is too bright I will give you my address. I love it!!!

Tink's Mom 12-23-2010 07:42 PM

Thanks, I think I'm just going to wrap it up and hope for the best tomorrow night when she opens it. She has 50 years worth of buttons so I left the button closure off so that she can use up a couple of her old ones.

Connecting thread for the jelly roll, and the pansy is from Fabric.com.

LOL...you will have to make your own.

mrspete 12-23-2010 07:45 PM

Cameras play tricks with color. It looks perfect to me. I know she will adore it.

sewmuchmore 12-23-2010 08:04 PM

I love it and I do not think that the yellow is to bright. She is going to love it. If you want to tone it down then buy a purple scarf to hang around her neck. :P

frugalfabrics 12-23-2010 08:04 PM

I think it is darling...Purple is the color older women like to wear these days...I don't think the yellow looks bad at all...it's a nice accent.

mommamac 12-23-2010 08:14 PM

looking good to me - your Mom will love it. Won't you be surprised if she picks out yellow buttons!

BETTY62 12-23-2010 08:23 PM

dellareya 12-23-2010 08:41 PM

I wouldn't change anything about it. Look beautiful to me.

trif 12-23-2010 10:33 PM

It's beautiful, I would wear it proudly. Great job, don't try to change it, she will be thrilled.

Tilladare 12-23-2010 11:30 PM

I love it! The thing about the colors... even in real life, you can have 3 doz purple pansies in a garden, and sprinkle in 4 yellows and they will stand out. I think it makes the jacket all the more lovely that the colors are mirroring life.

Hope that made some sort of sense,
Sorcha

sharon b 12-23-2010 11:44 PM

I think mom will love it  Love the colors - don't think the yellow over takes it

quilter on the eastern edge 12-24-2010 03:40 AM

Looks good to me. Lucky Mom!!

olebat 12-24-2010 04:06 AM

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and I'm beholding beauty. Without the yellow, the pansies would melt into the darker strips. Your selections gives a nice pop and cheer to the project. I never thought of myself as a "purple person", but those pansies called to me too. I made a pinwheel sampler (one of my works in progress, pieced, waiting to be quilted). Our color selections are similar. I'm so glad I chose the yellow, and you probably will be too.

mcdaniel023 12-24-2010 04:26 AM

Susie, I love it.

CarrieAnne 12-24-2010 04:29 AM

I LOVE IT! I love purple, so the purple stands out to me. She will love it!

Mkotch 12-24-2010 04:36 AM

I like it, but if it bothers you, how about a quick dip in tea dye?

EagarBeez 12-24-2010 04:57 AM

I love color and to me, I see nothing wrong with it the colors are very pretty.
Unless your mom is a very conservative dresser browns, blacks then by all means give it to her.
I remember my mother loving lavenders, deep purples. So many compliments she recieved.
Your mother will love this and the novel idea of leaving off a button

jolo 12-24-2010 05:01 AM

I love it dont think it is too bright.

leonajo 12-24-2010 05:01 AM

It will look great with either a yellow or purple sweater or shell underneath. Ur mom will love it.

quilt3311 12-24-2010 05:29 AM

I think its cheerful! But then I like bright colors. If your Mom likes the colors she will love the jacket.
