Just Takes 2

Is anyone here thinking of doing this Mystery BOM? It is hosted by Sentimental Stitches and Dear Jane. I looked at the first clue and see that they are doing a red and white combo and although it is beautiful, I am going to have to do something else. I have to see what I have in my stash when I get back home and see what i got. I am trying to do everything this year by stash only... wish me luck with that one lol. Anyways, if anyone is thinking of doing this, I thought maybe we could do a thing like we did for the Orca Bay Mystery so that we can talk and see each others work.

I looked at it and down loaded the first ones, but will probably do in a different color, though I do like the red and white.

I have my fabric and will hopefully be able to cut pieces today. I think this one will be a challenge for me to keep up with the block release schedule. I am using a white on white with a Thimbleberries print. I am usually not a fan of Lynette's fabrics, but this one almost reads 1930s. Im planning to do the redwork as it adds character to the quilt. So Ill play along with a sewing group.

willferg 01-04-2012 06:31 AM

I'm doing the redwork part, but haven't decided on the rest of it yet...

happynana 01-04-2012 07:29 AM

I think I am going to do one in red and black. Make a great Christmas present.

NDQuilts 01-04-2012 03:23 PM

I cut my first 6 blocks, which took about 30 mins. I'm probabaly going to have to revise the instructions as I go. Since I hand piece the methods that tend to sew large and square down will be problematic.

brookemarie19 01-04-2012 05:56 PM

I am so happy to see that others want to do this also!! I am planning to see what fabrics I have as an option this weekend as I will get back home on Friday night. What do u guys think of doing a quilt a long together like we did with the orca bay? If others want to do it then I will contact Patrice and ask what we would need to do for it. Let me know what y'all think.

SheriR 01-04-2012 10:12 PM

I'm not understanding. Do we pay for each download? Each week or month?

brookemarie19 01-05-2012 04:56 AM

No the blocks are free but I'd you want the design for the embroidery part it is $2 for the design. I plan to try to make my own design for the embroidery to make it a totally free quilt.

I have printed out the directions and gone through my stash for fabric. I plan to start it when I finish the baby quilt I am making for our first grandchild.

I am also thinking of doing this and have the instruction for the first step. Red and White for me. It will be nice to have this thread to remind all of us to get the new patterns each month.

I think I'm going to give a try. I'm not very good at following through though. Something always seems to get in the way.

I am using my stash on white Kona material. Have 3 blocks done so far. It is a challenge. 2600 pieces she says. I am going to keep track. It will be fun.

brookemarie19 01-05-2012 09:31 AM

That would be fun to keep track of the numbers... you could then brag about that when its done lol

Ok this sounded like fun but I am so frustrated right now. I went on the site....signed up and I can't find the patterns anywhere? The site is very confusing to get around on. Any help would be appreciated. Where do you download the pattern??????? Where are the instructions??????

It is weird because they said that they were not going to have any embroidery on this quilt and lo and behold there is embroidery.

let me see if I can get a link for you.

thank you, found it. I find that my patience is not what it use to be and so I lose it quite easily. Maybe someone can find it for me???? Now to think of what colors to use. HMMMMMMMM

quilt addict 01-05-2012 10:09 AM

I'm thinking, I'm thinking. This year I wanted to continue to work on UFO's. I already went off that resolution and did the New Year's Day mystery quilt. So I have a new UFO top added to my collection. But while searching for fabric for that mystery quilt in my stash, I came upon my collection of red and white fabrics that I had been collecting for a red and white quilt. I may go back and see how much I have to see if I can do this. At least you can download and save the directions. Not sure if I can keep up with it through out the year. Oh thinking, thinking....

Steady Stiching 01-05-2012 12:47 PM

I thought about doing this....I'd love to do a red and white quilt....but 16 yards of fabric kind of scared me off of this project. Can't wait to see what you ladies create!

dconroy84 01-05-2012 01:35 PM

Hi,
I'm planning on starting it also but I'm going to do mine in a blue either a moda blue or a batik blue of some color then do the embrodier in blue also. I don't know if I'll be able to keep up but I'll donwload all the patterns so I can do them as I have time.
Please let me know if you form a group like the Orca Bay group.

Ok I just sent a pm to the administrator about doing a quilt along. Hopefully we hear something soon

NDQuilts 01-08-2012 08:32 PM

Bumping the thread. I did three blocks over the weekend and one more is in units. Cutting all 6 boocks only took 30 mins, but I was surprised at how long the embroidery took me to do. In my DH's words I should " just take bigger stitches". The tiny ones look really nice. Im sure that a pieced quilt will be beautiful, but I am excited to add that extra step. Now I know to plan for the time it takes. I hope to finish out the last three blocks this week so I am ready for the next release. It is easier to keep up during winter months when we are cooped up inside. How is everyone else doing?

brookemarie19 01-09-2012 06:00 AM

Sorry guys, I couldn't get on the computer all weekend. I recieved an answer back to my request and have a few more things to set up. I have sent a proposal to the quilt along hopefully having all the info needed. I should get an email soon about it and let everyone know what she says.

brookemarie19 01-10-2012 09:57 AM

After a few pms back and forth to patrice.... the quilt along has been APPROVED!! I have started it up in the BOM forum. Here is the link

Can't wait to see you guys there!
