Thanks for taking the time to share such a lovely story. Makes us all feel warm and fuzzy to think that young man was so appreciative and will have something to comfort him for life. Thank you for all the work that went into it too.

In January 2010 I set out to make quilts for all my grandchildren (14) in all but was only able to complete 7. All of my grandchildren live in other states so I shipped the quilts to them, just in time to receive for Christmas. On Christmas day I received telephone calls from all of them and I could hear the smiles on their faces and the happiness they felt in receiving the quilts. I shared with each of them that there were lots of prayers and hugs in the quilt and I may not be there in person but each time they sleep under the quilt know that I am with them. In 2011 I will make every effort to complete the other 7 quilts along with quilts for my grown children (4). A busy year ahead I can see already.

Wonderful story! It makes it all worth it, doesn't it?
Your story is so sweet. You probably gave him more love by making something for him than he has ever felt.
What is the quote? If you can make a difference in one child's life etc. You have just done that and it may make all the difference in the world for him. You go girl!!! So proud of you.
Wonderful story. Thanks for sharing.
I think quilts express love than most anything else. Lucky boy to have your love.
Being a foster child he probably has not had very gifts that were for him specifically, it was a wonderful gift you gave him; he will treasure that quilt forever.
That's really kind of you. I'm sure he will treasure it.
Way to go!! Isn't it great to make a change in someone's life? He will remember you forever.
Now that is an unspoiled gentleman. Lucky lady who lands him!! Big hug to him from Nana Maurene! It is so nice to hear about a young fellow like him. Hope he goes far in life!!

I made a table runner for a very kind young man, actually the same age as my older son, they played hockey together. He invited me to stay at his apartment when I finished work in the North a few years ago. He is an excellent artist - his website is www.macleoud9.com if anybody feels like having a great non-quilt art show for a change.
Now it is not easy to make a quilt for an artist, and a colourist at that!! He saw me choosing the colours and took the matter into his own hands. The colour combo was one of the best I've ever seen, a variety of greens light and dark and greys ranging from light to charcoal, large and small prints, in a foundation pieced 8 point star. I nearly blinded myself quilting it, but never mind. There were only 3 12" blocks, a border and binding. I felt badly it was only a table runner, I'd love to have given him a lot more, but too busy at work (nursing) so little time! When I gave it to him (both his parents died very young, when he was young, he had a rough start) he said, Oh, It's so beautiful, nobody's ever made me a quilt before! I was so touched! It was only a table runner! He moves it all over his apartment, calls it art, puts it on the table, on the back of a chair, hangs it on the walls, in the sitting room, his studio, his bedroom. It feels so worthwhile to make something for someone so appreciative. I'd like to make him something bigger, a lap quilt, - a bed quilt would be a lot of work, he's 6'6"!! But if I ever retire maybe I'll try to. Compared to my daughter in law who destroyed the three quilts I gave her in a matter of weeks.... |
I gave a friend a quilt for Christmas. she cried. said it was beautiful and she would cherish it forever.
makes up for some of my co-workers who did not even acknowledge the beautiful table runners i gave them. |
that just makes my day to find out someone really appreciates the time and work put in to makeing a quilt
brought a tear to my eye. bless you both.
Brought tears to my eyes. That was so wonderful that he is included with your family. HUGS, Anne

This young man is indeed a gift to all of us. I wish I knew him.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful act of love in friendship. I'm sure you will be with him throughout his life.
For someone who has been so disappointed from others, what a gift MADE especially for him. What a blessing you have given him and received from his response.
Wow, what a caring wonderful young man. He will make a good husband, father, grandfather & hopefully great-grandfather some day. What a wonderful and caring person you are also, for giving him this beautiful gift of a quilt, to last a lifetime. It brought tears to my eyes reading this.
Thank you for sharing your story it really shows that it is more blessed to give than receive and your gift will always be cherished by this young man.
Aaww. Makes one feel warm and fuzzy to get a reaction like that.
Very nice gift, it is wonderful that he recognized the love that went into it.
That's great, is's always so nice when you see how much it means to a person.
When you give of yourself and the gift is from your heart it is so rewarding when the one who receives the gift appreciates what you did. You are an AWESOME QUILTER, and A THOUGHTFUL PERSON.
I can only hope that the quilts I gifted people with for Christmas with be appreciated that much. How nice for both of you!

That was a nice story...it is so great to have someone really appreciate your work. You have made a big difference already in that young man's life and he has his quilt to always remember that some cared for him...wow...
I am privileged to know him - he is so decent and respectful - and such a brilliant artist - he has taught me a lot about colour. He is going to be a recognized one of these days!
This was a wonderful story made my heart happy for all involved.
