I gifted one of my first quilts. I gave it to a 17 yr. old boy we have know all his life. He is in foster care and comes to my home when he visit is nanny. Him and my son are the same age. I did not expect the reaction he had when i got home from work and he had already opened his gift from us. He just grab me and gave me the biggest hug. All he could say is this took a really all time to make and that he will cherish it. It just made me all :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D on the inside. The label I even gifted to him.

That is Awesome! That quilt will last forever and longer in his heart!

leatheflea 12-29-2010 03:49 AM

Its nice to hear that there are still kids out there that appriciate people and the things they do for them. Not all children these days are as lucky as that young man. Sounds like even though his had a troubled life he understands what real love really is. Hugs to you both. Thanks for sharing your story, I think the most inspiration story I heard so far on quilt giving for the season.

Such a wonderful thing to do. Its probably one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for him. No doubt he will keep that the rest of his life. WAY TO GO!!!

What a wonderful experience.

The first year DD and SIL were dating, I knitted him a sweater for Christmas. I thought he was going to burst into tears. He said no one had ever made anything for him before. I make sure he gets one hand made gift every year and he still really appreciates them.

nativetexan 12-29-2010 08:02 AM

It's great when someone knows a quilt given is really a great big hug!!

CarrieAnne 12-29-2010 08:12 AM

Aw, that is so nice! Hugs!

scowlkat 12-29-2010 09:31 AM

So glad to hear that someone so young appreciates the love, time and effort you put into making the quilt. I have read so much about people who don't appreciate handmade (I call them heartmade) presents that it really has dampened my enthusiasm. I feel rejuvenated.

Kudos to you for doing this for him.

Mariposa 12-29-2010 10:03 AM

Kudos to you for making him a quilt that he will treasure! Hugs make it all worthwhile.

sewgull 12-29-2010 10:23 AM

amandasgramma 12-29-2010 10:26 AM

Wonderful!!!!!!! He's a young man that has learned to appreciate anything he gets, I'll bet.

Deborah12687 12-29-2010 10:31 AM

That is so wonderful that he loved the quilt so much. Bet it touched your heart a lot to see the joy on his face.

pumpkin12 12-29-2010 03:41 PM

I know how you feel.I made blankies for my great nephews for Christmas this year. Little Dugan's face was priceless as he held out his arms. Keep on giving!

marymm 12-29-2010 03:48 PM

What a touching story. It would have been so easy to give him a gift certificate or trinket, but you gave him something from your heart. And what a wonderful boy. He realized what a special gift it is.

thseabreze 12-30-2010 03:21 AM

to me, this is what Christmas is all about.

magpiefeather 12-30-2010 03:42 AM

This letter makes up for the ones where the quilt wasn't appreciated! Thanks for being so kind to him....he will never forget it.

Cuddly Quilter 12-30-2010 03:54 AM

Absolutely wonderful story. I am so very glad you got that type of reaction and from a 17yr old is even more precious.

MerryQuilter 12-30-2010 04:03 AM

Christmas miracle.

sewTinker 12-30-2010 04:08 AM

oh you must have been Thrilled! We never know how we touch another life. And a young man in need of love and acceptance... you chose the perfect person.

marybs 12-30-2010 04:21 AM

You are so wonderful! What a beautiful story and yet a little sad- imagine being so young and knowing how wonderful your gift is! This poor young man has had to go through an awful lot to be so mature! You are his greatest gift it sounds- big hugs to both of you!

charmy 12-30-2010 04:35 AM

What a beautiful story. That is a great honor to get that answer from a young man , some never get that even from a older adult. What a blessing that must of been to you. Makes it so easy to give quilts away when you are blessed like you were by the young man.

quilt3311 12-30-2010 04:54 AM

That is awesome. Sometimes these kids just need to know that someone else cares. Hugs to you for caring.

Psychomomquilter 12-30-2010 04:54 AM

Yes, very heart warming to kinw a young man will take it and cherish it!
