Wherever I get a real bargain----and that means cheap price but good quality.

I try to always buy from LQSs. If we don't, I'm afraid that more of them will close and then where will we go to "pet" fabrics and attend classes? I have on occasion bought online if I am trying to get something that I can't find locally. I try not to shop at big box stores because they will survive without my financial assistance, but my LQS may not.

I bring back almost all of my fabric from Bali. Leaving for a month+ tomorrow. I'll have tons of batiks I'll probably be selling!!

I buy everything from local shops. We do have 2-3 shows in my area a year and I love to go see what other shops bring.
|
I like to support the local quilt shops- I appreciate the classes they offer and any assistance that I need. It's worth it to me to pay more just for the support!
|
If you are looking for designer quilt fabric, quilthome.com is excellent. I only buy whats on sale and they ship free with $50. Also, they always ship priority mail.
Sometimes you can get Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler etc. for $5.97 a yd. |
I have never ordered online, tho' I do buy other things this way. I am so tactile, I need to touch, stroke, pet and caress the fabrics I choose. Would miss this on line, tho' can appreciate those who don't have fabric shops nearby using this venue. May have to try this if the prices keep going up!

I order from fabric4less on live can't beat their prices

Greetings from Phoenix, AZ
I buy most of my fabric from Walmart, especially David's Textile fabric, very good quality fabric. I also purchase fabric at JoAnne's only with their 40% off coupons. The local quilt shops: 35th Ave Sewing Shop and Mulqueens, both in Glendale, Arizona, have excellent fabric already paired together for you with complimentary and matching fabrics, they tend to be more expensive. Coupons from them also help. from, Debbie |
Mostly on sale at JoAnns but I make sure that it isn't 'thin' fabric which they do have. Connecting Threads. And a somewhat local fabric place called M&L Fabrics in the Anaheim CA area ... love that place, they carry big name fabrics but way below LQS prices. And I am all about frugal.
I haven't purchased from eBay in years. warm quilt hugs, sue in CA |
I buy wherever I get a good price. Hancock Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, LQS, internet, plus I have a lots of fabric from Marshall Dry Goods as well.

I am lucky to have 5-8 quilt shops near me and I make good use of all of them. (TOO good!!!) I also love to buy on line at several sites; my favorite? equilter.com. I never worry about not finding something I really need or want with all that's available on line. My stash is huge, but VERY organized. I cannot work in a mess. So while I make a mess when I am working, it gets "tidied up" frequently. I ripped up the carpet and have a wood floor now which is awesome. Swiffer Sweeper is all I need most of the time.
|
LQS, JoAnns, Hancocks, Thrift Stores, if I see a piece of fabric I like, I don't care where it is I buy it. I love LQS fabric but that isn't the only fabric in the world for me. Opps, I forgot Hobby Lobby also.

It's interesting that a lot of you say you getyour material at the charity stores, as that is one place that you would very rarely find any decent material here. There is sometimes old curtains and half done embroideries and ugly nylon material, but almost never to find the stashes of lovely cottons that you folk end up with - a very different culture.
|
I love getting fabric from C.T. Also from Walmart [at least till they take it out, maybe in June:(] Also I got to Handcocks, when on sale only. The one I love to visit and get lost in is MARY JOS CLOTH in NC. You can look at the site. Any type of cloth you can imagine. She buys and sells all over the world. There are pics too. Check It Out!!

I thought that most Wal-Marts did not carry fabric anymore. Whenever I see a Wal-Mart, I stop, but theyhave mostly replaced fabirc with paper stuff like invitations, party stuff, etc. Some online websites for buying (I like to feel fabric howeve-sooo_,)Joann has sales online. And I like to check out the daily sales at fabric.com. Thanks so much for the other sites.
|
From Connecting Threads, Fabric.com, eQuilter.com, W/M sometimes and here on this forum in the buying/selling area.
|
I buy a lot at the thrift store
|
StitchnHeaven is wonderful! Prompt and they send free goodies!!
|
VaNella, I always buy fabric from one of my local quilt shops. I believe in supporting them and the fabric is high quality. Joann's is fine for notions but there fabric just doesn't do justice to all the work that goes into making a quilt. The shop owners deserve our support, if they don't get it they will close. I have seen that happen in our community. peterparley

Just bought from thousands of bolts and was very pleased. Also Connecting threads, and keepsake quilting. I am near the amish country and they have some great shops and reasonable prices. Happy quilting
|
I buy from several places. I've found wonderful deals at Craft Town in Salem, IN, Stitch N Frame in Vicksburg, MS, Whittle's in Smith's Grove, KY, and Quilts R Jewels in Hartford, KY. Those are the places I find my greatest bargains. I do sometimes order from Yoder's (an Amish owned shop in Shipshewana IN) The Stitching Post in Washington, IN, Thousands of Bolts, Fabric.com, etc. I'm always looking for the proverbial bargain, but I prefer good quality fabric from a quilt shop. You can tell by the feel of the fabric when it's the "good stuff." I check out clearance and sales online all the time.

Also Lorraine fabrics in Pawtucket RI, you have to do more searching, but they have TONS of fabric. So if you are ever in RI. Check them out. Only 1 of our Walmarts (Plainfield Pike) that I have found, still has a fabric dept. |

I buy fabric at several different places like everyone else. Most of them have been mentioned already except for a small quilt shop located in Jamestown TN: http://www.fabricsnquilts.com/ They have a Deal of the Day everyday. I have gotten some really good deals and the quality is great.
|
Over the years I have bought from Joannes, Fabric.com, Connecting Threads, Quilt in a day, Thousands of bolts, Hancocks, Marshall Dry Goods,Wal-Mart. Just about any reputable company that has a good sale.

When I first started quilting '07 my mother was sooooooooo excieted she bought me a featherwieght, all the assesories I needed/wanted and even sent me some of her stash. My very first quilt was made from scraps by hand I pieced them together, (wasn't real sure about a mechine yet) never having used one b4. She even sent cut up squares for the quilt. By February '08 I had 47 blocks, made a king with 2 pillow shams and 2 sconces for the windows. I started that in Dec. 07. Since then I have made 4 scrap quilts with that very same stash she sent me. Last year was the first time I ever bought any fabric but to go on a back of something I made. I was so thrilled I bought my first jelly roll and some nice pieces at the Cherry Blossem Fest downtown (Japanise print) I hope to get that done this year, I created my own blocks. But now I have no stash. All my fabric has a home/with a name on it.
|
Our local Walmart has restocked their fabric line. Many of them had closed out their fabric department. Today, I was there and discovered that they are now carrying cut yardage, fat quarters, charms, jelly rolls. They had one side of a long aisle full of fabric. Very good colors and designs, too. I pick up 2 neutral fat quarters to "test". The fabric states that it is 100% premium cotton. Will let everyone know!!
|
One of the online stores I have been ordering from is OldCountryStore.com. Their service is outstanding and also their "good" fabric is about $2.00 cheaper than other local quilt stores..
|
I buy all my backing from ChristianLane Fatbacks online in their bargain backs. I buy a little more than I need so I can add to stach. And just found Batiks etcetera online.also the quality of fabrics from Hancocks of Paducah is wonderful!!
